Can you describe this feeling as the relaxed arms?...a common principle would would be a free, asyncronous hands that are independ of the upper body (and the same is for legs)...
I thought the same thing, the arm (forearm and wrist and some fingers) need to be firm enough to win the force of the ball. After hitting the ball the arm can be relaxed.
Lovely. No nonsense, helpful, & to the essential point. Any plans to do a video on the drop shot? Would you call it a shot with the hands or with the shoulder?
Tom, this is THE BEST. Not only do you explain what to do..but WHY these levers to handle WHAT ball. I've watched endless videos where the so-called pro just blabs and does shadow swings. You walk the walk my friend. Nice hands and info.
Beautiful volleys . They look natural and effortless . It does take work to have them working that well . I think that a good volleyer reads the line of the ball very quickly and so has lots of time to position his feet .
Gorgeous volleys. I will try these tips as my volleys sometimes crumbles and can't figure out why. I notice you hit the ball in front, and I am told I don't always do this, and should do this. Any thoughts or tips on how to ensure i hit the volley in front? 🙏
How open is your racket face when you’re talking about “knifing the backhand”? I would assume with an open face the ball would pop up and be a floater or even potentially go out with an open racket face. I’m sure that’s not what’s actually happening but I’m a little confused
The racket face on a slices and slice volleys is always more closed than people think. The steeper your swing the more you can open your racket face and still keep the ball down. But you don’t want to chop down too much
Thanks for the clear hints - at a suitable level for a club team hacker like me. Lovin the accent, BTW. Sounds like 90% Lancashire (?) and 10% Alabama.
Hello Tom. It appears that you grip the racquet quite a distance from the butt. I also note that you do not advocate a live wrist for a volley for any player at any time in any circumstance. Is my understanding correct? Thanks. Mark.

When I was 17 my coach once told me that I had hands like an Italian lover hahaha. Hope you enjoy the video!

@@aj520605 I wouldn't say they're relaxed. They're just not rigid

You’re one of my favourite TH-cam coaches! Your techniques and teaching is concise and simple to understand, it’s organic and relatable! 👏 🤩 🙏

Really great tips I haven’t seen before thanks

Thanks! Yes, you can’t be any better at hitting the all than you are at tracking the ball.
Terrific analysis
great volleys, man.😀 good point, volley is still a feel shot.
Your volley guide is different from other coach but I like it

Are you going to chop down on the ball for high to medium height balls?
Above the shoulder it gets flatter. But the angle of the racket changes so spin becomes side spin the higher it is.

No one says "that guy's got a great shoulder"! Yes very true
Haha yeah true. Good hands and good eye. Tom is a master volleyer nice to hear his take on this shot
Maybe on the serve but not on the volley

No wrist is correct but I don’t choke up the racket
