Can Kazakh and Karakalpak speakers understand each other? In this episode we test the degree of mutual intelligibility between the two languages and showcase just how connected the two are. Feruza (Karakalpak speaker), and Tamerlan (Kazakh speaker) will start by having a short conversation in their native languages, and in the second part of the video, they will read a series of proverbs in their respective languages to show even further how culturally connected they are. Feruza's Instagram page: instagram.com/h.feru/ Please contact me on Instagram if you would like to participate in a future video: instagram.com/BahadorAlast

@@ТатьянаКолесникова-г8ж в казахском тотальная замена согласных звуков: 1) "с" вместо стандартного общетюркского "ш" 2) "ш" вместо стандартного общетюркского "ч" Это нужно постоянно держать в голове, когда слушаешь казахскую речь. It's amazing to see how well they understood each other without much help. These content are great at reminding us that, linguistically and cuturally, we share many common origins.
Actually, Qaraqalpaq, Noghai and Qazaq can be considered the dialects of one language. They are way closer than many of the Turkic languages between each other. These three branched out in the early middle ages but yet are so close that can be thought of as the one language with slightly different dialects.
@@anarbekbekessov9879 In terms of grammatical structure they are absolutely identical, in terms of elements used in the grammatical structure they altered a little. For plural in Kazakh are used dar/der-tar/ter and lar/ler whereas in Noghai and Karakalpak - only the latter pair is used.
For me the level of understanding between a Kazakh person and a Karakalpak is the same as between a Mexican person and an Argentinian. Great video, Bahador!
Казахи, ногайцы и каракалпаки - это один народ. Они используют один и тот же язык, различия несущественны. Разделение произошло по политическим причинам, что является огромной исторической ошибкой.

The first time I saw Karakalpaks was during my Soviet army service back 1980s. I was a sergeant in infantry. Once I saw some guys and they were speaking Kazakh. I asked them if they were Kazakh, but they responded that they were Karakalpak, so we proceeded talking to each other, each his own language, and we understood each other perfectly. The similarity was so great that the differences sounded just a different dialect of the same language.

As a Turkish speaker I am surprised by how much I could understand in the conversation! Although not a 100% I could catch some words and sentences. It's so cool 🥰 "Kulağına altın küpe olsun" is something my mom used to tell me especially when I was younger. It's so interesting how some sayings can travel through time and location and still be with us. Greetings from your Turkish sister ❤🇹🇷
Deyimlerin birçoğu anlaşılıyordu.Hele dediğin gibi “kulağına altın küpe olmak” direkt sırıttı.Atasözlerimizin çoğu benzer.Çok hoşuma gitti çok azcık düşününce anlayabiliyorsun aslında.
I am qazaq and I would say difference between Kazakh and Karakalpak languages like Canadian English and USA English. It is almost same language with same traditions
This girl is an example of an uneducated and ignorant person. In the past, Karakalpak was much closer to Kazakh and Nogai than now. it's almost 70-80 years, since Karakalpakstan is a part of Uzbekistan, therefore Karakalpaks, their language and culture have been heavily assimilated. Most Karakalpaks nowadays name their children with Arabo-Persian names that came via Uzbek such as Shuhrat, Ramuza, Jasur, Rano, Bonu, Rahim, Ilham, Alisher, Aziz, Shavkat, Mahmud, Mahsud and so on. So-called modern Karakalpak is a disgusting pidgin, made of mostly Arabo-Persian words (that came through Uzbek). Karakalpak is a half extinct language, that became a dialect of Arabic, Persian and Uzbek. Most Karakalpaks even don't know that they are being assimilated and don't care about that: they behave like an ignorant herd. People who don't care about their identity can't be saved and respected.

Karakalpak and Kazakh languages it's literally the same language. Not necessarily to make this video, it's very clear Same language and almost the same culture. It's like for Example British and American English but Kazakh and Karakalpak languages even sounds the same with no accents. Tatar and Kazakh probably would be the same example as British and American English languages, cause they are sounds different but also kind of the same language! Kipchak language actually historically.

@@truthandjustice77 Yeah Karakalpak used to be a part of Kazakhstan. Don't know could it be better if Karakalpaks was in Kazakhstan together with Kazakhs, cause actually they are the same, might be the 4th zhuz. You know kazakhs has 3 zhuzs and tgey are little bit different in dialect and culture like karakalpaks is. But Nogai people they afraid to assimilate with Kazakhs because we are similar. But anyway they are getting assimilation with Russian people.
@@anarbekbekessov9879 Karakalpak tribe groups division (ruu) is similar to that of Kyrgyz people (on and sol kanat): there are two major tribe groups called aris on tort ruu and konirat. I don't think Karakalpaks would agree to be the 4th juz, because it will be disrespectful for them and pose a risk of losing the Karakalpak identity. Both Karakalpaks (strong pressure of Uzbek language) and Nogais (Nogai langauge in Turkey is strongly influenced by Turkish and in Russia by Russian language) don't have independent countries and are being assimilated. Probably not being an independent country is the main reason of assimilation.
The thing is that Karakalpaks, Kazakhs and Nogai all were one Kipchak people and spoke one language in the past, but after the collapse and division of the Golden horde became separate people with separate languages. Having common ancestors Kipchaks is the main reason why they are quite similar to each other and are included in the Kipchak branch of Turkic languages.
@@truthandjustice77 No bro, they are more than have common Kipchak ancestors. Look at Kirghis people, look at Tatar people, look to theother Kipchak language speaking people they are way more different. Karakalpak, Kazakh and Noghai they are really brothers and sisters, they are speak the same language, they look same appearance, same face, same culture. They are used to be same people on one territory and then after Golden horde collapse everything divided. You know why? Because of their Commanders like Khans and Beks. So every Khan and Bek they had some army and people so they kind of fought for people and territory. So you see Karakalpak because just their commanders brought them there. Yeah so when Golden horde collapsed some tribes supported Khans and they stayed with kazakhs, the other ones supported Beklaribeks and they stayed with Noghais, ets
Kazakh, Karakalpak and Nogai are very close, the languages much further from each other counted as dialects while those are counted as separate languages, well it is indeed more about politics than anything else.
I understand 40-50%. But the Uzbek language is more understandable for me. I am from Azerbaijan and for me the most understandable language is Turkish-100%, Gagauz -99%, and Crimean Tatar-90% Turkoman of Syria -99% Turkoman of Iraq -99% Turkmenistan- 40% when spiking, and 70-80% when reading
I am Karakalpak. Our language is too close to Kazakh language. We understand each other without any difficulties. It is look like to English language close to British language.

@@ТатьянаКолесникова-г8ж в казахском тотальная замена согласных звуков:

Thank you Bahador Bey (we call Bahadır bey). It is a bit challenging if one has nothing about Kipchak dialects (speech) for Turkish in Türkiye but after some weeks paying attention to speeches, it will not be a problem to understand each other. If some Karakalpak man or woman will come to Kazakhstan but disquise his/her nationality. Not even one kazakh will understand that this person actually is Karakalpak. Because we look similar and speak same language.
The only difference is like: Kazakh will think that this person is kazakh but maybe from different region. For example I am from Northern Kazakhstan if I will encounter Karakalpak I may assume that he / she is from Shymkent or something
I am an English-Kazakh translator residing in the USA. Kazakh, Nogai, Karakalpak, etc. were the same Kipchak group of Turkic languages.

Да всё правильно.
Большинство Каракалпаков даже незнают что их ассимилируют узбекские власти
They are one langauge.

We are same nation etnically kazak and karakalpaks
Thanks to author for such video! As a Kazakh I can say that Karakalpak are very closest nation to us, especially in language.

It is look like to English language close to British language.
