It makes me feel real old thinking magazines have gone the way of the internet. But it's really refreshing to see younger generations groove on this music. Freeze Frame was a fun album. Another driver was "Flamethrower". Actually quite a few great ones on that album including Freeze Frame.

The song is about a guy (the narrator/singer) who has a crush on a sweet, innocent girl at school... then later sees HER as the centerfold in a magazine and his world is thrown off balance

Right here Jay ! This is your best explanation.
He loved this girl back when they were in school. She was so sweet and innocent that's why he sees her as his "Angel". So of course seeing her as a magazine centerfold was enough to make his blood run cold.
I love Peter Wolfe. You've gotta check out the other songs mentioned by them.

Classic song. I'm an Uber and Lyft driver in Austin. About 2 years ago I gave a ride to Peter Wolf the lead singer of this group. He was really cool. I didn't recognize him of course but I knew he was somebody important because he was talking on the phone to somebody about setting up a meeting with meatloaf. This was during SXSW. Anyway we talked about several things and then he told me who he was at the end of the ride. Great experience

This song and “Freeze Frame” were popular songs played during roller skating. In small towns in the summer, ice rinks were defrosted and we roller skated around and around and around to tunes. Good times!

At my first ever rock concert - back in 1970 - The J. Geils Band was the opening act. Their sheer energy and power blew the headline act (Mountain) off the stage. Next year, they were a headlining act. Centerfold was at the tail end of the recording career of the original line up (although I saw them 2 years ago, and they still blew the roof off the place).

Peter Wolf used to hang out with Van Morrison in Cambridge and Boston in the late 60s. Van was writing Astral Weeks in a dive apartment in Central Square. Peter Wolf was hanging at the Boston Tea Party and invited Van to guest on his WBCN FM late night blues radio show.

I love this love song, so fun! Peter Wolf is a very charismatic lead singer! I love his energy! He had a song called “Dancing in the Dark” which I believe was a solo effort! I think it’s so surreal that this generation doesn’t know what a centerfold is! Playboy magazine was famous for their nude or nearly nude centerfolds! Great reaction! ❤️❤️

You said that he reminded you of another singer. To me, the J. Geils Band and their lead singer, who went by the name Peter Wolf made me think of the Cars and lead singer Ric Ocasek (rip) Not an exact match, but I could imagine them doing each other's songs.

My favorite song is LOVE STINKS 1980 video. It was released at the same time that my girlfriend, after two years of a very intense relationship, decided we should date other people just to make sure before we got married. She did but when I did she went ballistic. That is when I learned that women do not always mean what they say. On my way home this song came on the radio.

This entire album is hot. They slid from a mid 70s more R&B version of fellow Boston boys Aerosmith to more funky take on also Boston's The Cars. Keyboardist Seth Justman is the driving force on this LP, with a writing credit on all the tracks including production duties. This band has a deep, deep catalog (debut was in 1970) to mine.
