Harri, don’t you dare apologize for being in your feels. That’s what music does best. It will always make you feel some kinda way. It’s at its best when it brings you Joy and Happiness.
Actually a cover done by the Marvellos. I absolutely loved this version first time i heard mid 80s. Peter Wolfe is a very good singer. Probably my favorite song by them Great performance kudos to all that made it great.
I have to thank you for the mention of the original group’s name.that recorded this song! It has been so long since I have heard the original. I am 68 years old, I was 10 when it came out in 1965. This version sounds great, but… it does not duplicate the feeling the original gives me. I did find the original on TH-cam thanks to you. Again, Thank You so much!
Music is powerful and personal. Love J Geils Band. What a profound experience you have shared with us on this one Very happy you finally got to find this after all these years
I believe he was married to Faye Dunaway. His college roommate was David Lynch! These guys did a bunch of great cover songs in their early career. They're local so they were on the radio a LOT in the '70s around here. Everyone loved them.
Harri - Love You having fun with my favorite band of all time..The best live band of the 1970's!! So much fun!!! I Do and Centerfold and Love Stinks are fun songs from late in their career but You really gotta listen to and react to more of their great boogie blues of the early and mid 70's..especially their live stuff.....First I Look at The Purse and Hard Driven Man from FULL HOUSE or House Party and Musta Got Lost (Full Intro) from Blow Your Face Out... House Party Live from Winterland is also great..Sound quality isn't good but it gives You the feel of How crazy and full of energy they were on stage....A GREAT studio song is GIVE IT TO ME from Bloodshot..Unbelievable instrumentals! You will smile a lot!!
Also from the album "Full House," don't forget the segue duo "Whammer Jammer" + "Hard Drivin' Man." Energy just does not stop flowin' with this early version of the band. Also, the "Full House" album cover has joke on it. Too bad they got hijacked by TOP 40 producers; down hill after that.
Great to see you rediscover this J Geils classic! I've had that happen to me before...there was a song my brother used to play, and I tried to find it again for decades too. My brother has passed away, and a couple years ago I heard that song that was forever hidden in inaccessible parts of my memory. It was almost like a wave of relief knowing I wouldn't spend the rest of my life wondering what the song was stuck in my brain. It doesn't matter that it was a pretty insignificant song, just that I liked the sound. It was "You Don't Love Me" by Bloomfield, Kooper, Stills. Anyway, I understand your heartfelt reaction.
Saw them as a teen back in the early 80s J Geils band can do it All they can make you get up dance then blow your face out with some whamming jamming blues rock & roll they were Awesome Live
Great song! I know the feeling of searching for a song that I heard as a child. I'm in my 60s now. The song was a Johnny Rivers cover of Huey Piano Smiths Rocking Pneumonia and Boogie Woogie Flu. I always thought it was by Loggins and Messina. I would go to record stores to buy a record, and the memory of that song popped into my head. I always looked at the Loggins and Messina albums. I'm fairly certain I asked a store employee at least once if they knew who did the song. If I did ask that person didn't know anything about the song. By the way my searching was before computers and way before smart phones. It wasn't until TH-cam that I finally found the song. I felt dumb for thinking it was a Loggins and Messina song and felt happy that I finally found it at the same time. 😊
Love it when Magic Dick kicks in on his harmonica! Have had the pleasure of chatting with him on Facebook and even over 70 years old, he has campaigned and played Whammer Jammer like he was in his twenties. J Geils just rocked us all in the 70's!
No apology necessary, Harri! It's truly a pleasure to see the honest emotional effect that a song can have on a true music lover. I'm so glad that your quest for this song is finally over! :) Your reaction was even better than when you re-discovered "My Sweet Lord". Just for the record, the "g" in the band's name--which often gets mispronounced--is said like the word "guile" or "guy". Have fun re-listening to this one! 😍
I'm in Harry's predicament, lol, with a song I heard in the gym about 10 yrs. ago and look high and low for it but to no avail. I'm just hoping it won't take me 30+ yrs. like Harry to find it, Lol.
This was fun! It brought back memories of my search for a certain song from my youth that eluded me over and over (turns out it was “Hope” by Klaatu) and then another from my teens that caused me to buy the entire YES catalog before finding it on the last CD I got (“ Tempis Fugit “ from Drama)
Great choice Dave! I always love hearing from my home boys The J Geils Band. You certainly made Harri happy. Great song and wonderful reaction. Thanks Harri and Dave 🌺✌️
Debbie, thank you very much. I submitted this as part of my very low-keyed monthly series of great harp players for Harri and our members. After he reviewed Magic Dick's blistering solo on Whammer Jammer, which is one of my all-time favorites, Harri said that he wished that he could have seen the musicians. I held back in not submitting "I Do" because I considered it one of the greatest live performances, and it featured a bit of Magic Dick on harp. The stars seemed to have aligned, and it was time to submit my final "greatest harp players" which I knew was on J. Giels's live "I do". I had no idea what was to come when Harri did this reaction (an understatement). Wow, look what happened to Harri!!!!!
It would be very cool if you reacted to "I Do" again, but this time - the studio version so that it will bring back even more memories of this great song. On a different note, I graduated from high school in 1983 and I can't even explain how big the J Geils Band was in those days, especially in the Boston area where I grew up and where the band is from. Another really great song from them is "House Party". It was mandatory at every house party and pool party I ever attended back in my high school days.
And, “Ain’t Nothin But A House Party” was also a cover! It was originally recorded by The Show Stoppers in 1968. Another great cover was “First I Look At The Purse” by the Contours, I believe. They were very good at choosing which songs to cover. And their cover versions were all great- yes, especially for parties 🥳
Great reaction, as usual, to Classic J. Geils tune. This is from the Monkey Island LP, which I bought in college, 1977. At their height they switched content a bit, still very funky but maybe more serious rather than party music. Good album w Sanctuary, title cut, I Do and others. J Geils ( rhymes w Tiles) is worth a deep dive, harmonica highlights every other song, at times.
With all the ways to find music these days many of the younger set have been denied that wonderful feeling of finding a song after years of searching. So many times this happened to me. This song came out my senior year in High School and we sang it over and over during our class play practice. Such a fun song! In my opinion the ‘80’s was the happiest decade ever.
I swear, back in the day the J Geils Band was part of nearly every concert I went to. Love them!!❤❤❤❤ There was good reason they were always on stage 😊 I didn't know anyone who didn't love them
The J Geils Band is the best band EVER. I saw them every time they came to Cleveland, Ohio. This band should be in the Rock Hall and the fact that they are not is why I think the Rock Hall is a f in-joke. Please do Serves You Rite to Suffer or When the Walls Come Tumblin Down. Sanctuary is another great one. There is no bad song by this band, PLAESE DO THEM ALL. I am serious. Iam begging you to do a reaction of nothing but J Geils PLEASE. a song buy them that is a hidden gem for fans is Peanut Butter just so you know,
J Geils Band really put on a high powered show from start to finish, which I almost didn't see because I got too high and had to run out of the Agora on High Street (real name) in Columbus, Ohio to try and bring myself "down" 🤯😄
I’m from Columbus, Ohio. And the Agora was well known as a party place. Don’t live there now, moved away four years ago. High St. up on Ohio State University campus was a really happening place to be.
It makes me so happy when you discover a song from your past that you've longed to find! By the way Harri, Geils is pronounced like miles or guiles! Love your channel!
THIS, RIGHT HERE, IS WHAT IT’S ABOUT FOR ME!! This is why I love watching music react videos. This is the magic of music and what inevitably happens as it imprints on our hearts and our minds, then when we happen across it years later we’re instantly transported to that place and time, and perhaps even the very daydreams running through our minds when it played all those years ago. I saw the George Harrison reaction and I jumped outta my chair in front of my tv (as I often stream through my Apple TV so I can watch on the big screen). I had even suggested George in the comments a couple of times, but realized there’s just so many comments it could take a long time before getting around to him, especially since it was solo work from him.. though something told me his music would move you Harri, and I was just overjoyed to share that discovery with you that day, as I am today with this discovery, which frankly, I see as being even all the more elusive in that a) it wasn’t one of their really big radio “hits”, and b) all you had to go on was the “Doo Doo-Doo’s” in the song. Just knowing the “Doo Doo-Doo’s” makes it a very difficult frame of reference to pinpoint because just think how many different songs there are using that form of 50’s/60’s doo-wop sounding scat for backup vocals.. TONS of songs. Don’t get me wrong.. it’s not your fault for that, it’s purely happenstance that that’s what you had latched onto in the moment, and unfortunate that it just happened to be one of the most common vocalizations in the history of rock n roll. The same thing happened to me where I just had a guitar solo stuck in my head for ages and couldn’t pinpoint it. What made it really hard is it was a very simple solo, and the song was soft and mellow so I couldn’t place it and no one would even begin to know what to suggest when I described it. Eventually, I just came across it on the radio: The Climax Blues Band “I Love You”. It was surreal hearing it again as it transported me to riding in the car and staring at the scenery passing by. All through the 80’s-90’s I used to hang out in record stores and familiarize myself with the entirety of shelf stock and keep tabs on any new trade-ins of used stuff they would get. I got to know the staff at most places, but would be sure to give them space to work unless they were bored and wanted to converse. On several occasions people would come to the desk looking for certain songs and they started pulling me in on the search if they were stumped. One girl came in and had been searching for the longest time for a song, and no one could get it. They asked me, and after she described it I knew it This Mortal Coil “Song To The Siren”. They happened to have a used copy of that album- “It’ll End in Tears”, and MAAAN when they put it on she exclaimed “OH!”.. “this is it..” but had froze up and was TREMBLING as tears rolled down her face. After a minute she lost her breath and was sobbing, but started to stagger so me and another customer helped hold her steady cause she was literally hyperventilating and about to pass out. It was quite moving for everyone in the store.. and needless to say, she bought a copy. I think we had figured out that she had been searching through Siouxsie and Cocteau Twins, which was close, but it was a Twins side project so it was obscured from her searches. I have some songs that are eluding me to this day.. one is a very very obscure 80’s punk/new wave single which record shops and collectors around the US haven’t even heard of. Not sure if I’ll ever find that one, though I know the artist and all the song titles on it. You should definitely hum what you remember of the country song, Harri.. and any notable lyrics you might remember, what would it hurt? You might just catch the attention of a viewer who just listened to it a couple of days ago so it’s still fresh in their mind.
@@HarriBestReactions Yes, well the guitar solo was quite an abstract reference point. Interestingly all the wrong answers gave me insight to a renewed appreciation for very simple guitar solos. Looking forward to the Country hint.. If it’s 70’s or 80’s I just might get it. Just hopeful someone does..
That’s what music does. It brings emotions, memories and people together. Watching reactors on you tube has reminded me of songs I had totally forgotten! I’m like I loved that song how did I forget it?! I’ve also discovered music I’d never have listened to on my own. It’s one of the wonderful things about social media. Keep listening, keep exploring, keep learning!
DaveBZen, it's been a while since I've seen a song go over 10k views and 1.1k likes in just a two day period. You blew it out of the park dude. Well chosen my friend. Magical moment for Harri. 👍
Ima - I just saw your comments. Sorry about that. It is so ironic that I have had this video performance for nearly a year. You bet it is located in my Best of the Best Playlist. Thank you for wonderful comments.
It’s moments like this that makes you remember why you started a music channel. No apologies needed, this is why we sub and watch, for fulfilling moments like this. Cheers! 🍻
I saw J. GEILS in '78 before they became huge on MTV. They were a great mix of blues & rock with a charismatic front man who could cut some rug! The whole band are top notch musicians with an ode to old school. Best party band right up there with VH. Thanks for the reflection .... er .... reaction. LOL.
Harri you should have asked me, I would have told you what it was. The J. Geils (Guy-els like smiles) Band was one of the biggest bands to come out of Boston, Massachusetts in the 1970's. They started in the late 60's, but didn't hit it big until the 70's, a GREAT party band. Got to see them live one time, and it was an amazing experience, so much energy coming off that stage, and excellent music as well. Much fun.
I never got to see J. Geiles Band back in the day. But I did catch Peter Wolfe opening for Kid Rock... then later joining him onstage. Lots of energy. JBB has been in playlist and collection for years
Spectacular live band. Except for their live a!bum, FULL HOUSE, their records never did them justice. The musicianship was second to none, and Peter Wolf was a master frontman. I saw them on five occasions, the first being in 1973 in a beautiful ornate old theater in Ft.Wayne IN, red velvet seats, curtains and all. They shook the place to it foundation and the kids just went nuts. The contrast between the band and the venue was wild. I will never forget it.
I know exactly how you feel!! So cool for you!!! I saw J Geils open for The Rolling Stones somewhere in the ‘80s. They put on a great show! Give a listen to their other stuff and you will not be disappointed. ☮️❤️
LOL❣️I completely understand. I heard a song once or twice in the 60s😢 and could never find it again. Then, living in China and surfing music online I FOUND IT. ITS really not a huge song, but I discivered it’s singer Miriam Makeba, and that led me to many South African singers notably Ladysmith. It’s a really great feeling to unearth a song that made you feel sooo good even decades after the fact. Congratulations…you found yours👍🇨🇦
Wow! You had to go all the way to China? 🤣😅😆 I could have helped you! I love Makeba..I have a feeling the song you are talking about was a big hit in mid 60's
You’ve done it again, Harri. Absolutely brilliant band. Another band I grew up on. Thanks so much for doing it and for what you do. Take care of yourself and blessings to you.
Harri, fate fell right into your hands, how many times I listened to my favorite songs as a child, then I couldn’t figure out who was singing it and how to find this song, I had the same thing. 🤗
This is probably my favorite J. Geils tune, but it wasn't a big hit here in the States, which is very surprising. Haha, glad that you were finally able to discover this long lost song, Harri!
I can close my eyes and hear this song being blasted in my College dorm room. Best party band of the 1970s and I saw them blow the roof off Cobo Hall Detroit in the 70s.
Agnete - I am sorry for my delayed reply as I just noticed your comments. Once again, I am thrilled that you enjoyed this one too. As for Harri, who knew?😁
Jay lived two houses away from mine for the final 20 years of his life. A genuinely nice guy, that loved to work on exotic race cars. RIP
You got to live near him, all I ended up getting to do was take care of his wife’s best friend’s horse 30 years ago.. small world. Though to be fair, I got to race rally cars & compete in hillclimbs during those same years and more. Still would’ve been nice to meet him
You mean john?

J. Geils is great,,,,,soooo under rated. They're really good,,,especially live. 💥💥💥👍🤪
J. Geils Band, the ultimate party group!
Absolutely! Made Loud to Play Loud!
OMG yes. "Blow Yer Face Out" will get you sweating before the needle even drops
J. Geils knew the good old tunes to cover! Originally released in 1965 by the soul harmony group the Marvelows. Both versions are excellent and fun.
Wow! Its a cover??? I need to hear the original too

🥰
Thank you..Its much harder with a guitar solo though 😀😃..I think i was humming the song to the wrong people. The country song is coming in a day or two
@@HarriBestReactions Yes, well the guitar solo was quite an abstract reference point.
He did well with this one 😀
Ima - I just saw your comments. Sorry about that. It is so ironic that I have had this video performance for nearly a year. You bet it is located in my Best of the Best Playlist. Thank you for wonderful comments.
Sounds like a very special day for you! When nice people get a nice surprise, we all enjoy it. Thanks for letting us see you get this one!
It’s moments like this that makes you remember why you started a music channel. No apologies needed, this is why we sub and watch, for fulfilling moments like this. Cheers! 🍻
30 year mystery song solved. I know how it feels to finally hear that song that you only had just a piece of it in your head for thirty years.
J. Geils Band! One of the great bands! Lots of great songs by them!
What a feeling isn't it Harry?!? Glad you finally got to make the connection.
I saw J. GEILS in '78 before they became huge on MTV. They were a great mix of blues & rock with a charismatic front man who could cut some rug! The whole band are top notch musicians with an ode to old school. Best party band right up there with VH. Thanks for the reflection .... er .... reaction. LOL.
Your laugh and smile make my day😊
Awwww thank you 🥰🖤🖤
I had a similar experience with I must have got lost. by the J Giels Band.
I do is straight up fire!!!
a rare gem !
Much fun.
Seeing J. Geiles band live was two of the best things I’ve ever experienced.
So cool!! Great reaction!
I know exactly how you feel!! So cool for you!!! I saw J Geils open for The Rolling Stones somewhere in the ‘80s. They put on a great show! Give a listen to their other stuff and you will not be disappointed. ☮️❤️
Good on ya,Harri! ❤
@@HarriBestReactions 👏👏 yes you do…”Pata Pata”!🇨🇦
One of my absolute faves! The DJ's always pronounced it like J.GUYLs Band. Have you heard their song (Ain't nothin but a) House Party yet?
It's like a long lost friend who you haven't seen in a while! Memories coming back!
You’ve done it again, Harri. Absolutely brilliant band. Another band I grew up on. Thanks so much for doing it and for what you do. Take care of yourself and blessings to you.
Best concert i ever attended.
I saw you 😀😀
This one was okay but you have to do Musta Got Lost. The live version with the intro. That's the one they are best known for.
I love the J. Gail's band!
Thank you Harri, just love this band✌️😀😎
Music evokes many emotions
Bless the reunion
Please share your country tune
We'll track that bounty
So fun. Everyone jumps up to dance when J Geils starts. check out Freeze Frame.
Great Reaction it is an Awesome song
It's a bop.
I know the feeling, I've been trying to remember and find a song I heard over forty years ago.
I can close my eyes and hear this song being blasted in my College dorm room. Best party band of the 1970s and I saw them blow the roof off Cobo Hall Detroit in the 70s.
It is a joy-filled song by a joyous band. Oh my god they were a blast to see live, absolute chaos!
J.Geils, one of the best concerts I've ever seen, so much fun!
Yes! J Giles baby....
Harri, loving your music journey & reactions. Your appreciation of the music brings a smile to my heart. ❤
Hell Yeah , Harry
Love this song
Great job
What a fantastic song Dave 🥰🤗😇 You did it again 💯❤ And Harri had a blast 💥💫
Agnete - I am sorry for my delayed reply as I just noticed your comments. Once again, I am thrilled that you enjoyed this one too. As for Harri, who knew?😁
I had totally forgotten about this song. Great to hear it again.
Best reaction … ever.
Thank youuuuuuuuu
The greatest party band of all time. Second is Oingo Boingo.
