Should Eskom be exempted from the B-BBEE requirements of preferential procurement policy? Comment below...

I would argue that all entities be exempted from BBBEEEE requirements - it has been a dismal failure and one of the main driving factors in rising costs and inflation as well as ever degrading service delivery.

The CEO has failed and failed dismally and he is being protected because he is white if a black CEO had done exactly the same poor performance he would have been fired by the same government and all the white people will be saying Black's can't run anything this is why we are experiencing stage 6 load shedding. This CEO and his board and Pravin should be fired they have let the country down no excuses they must just go

Never B-BBEE IS NOT THE PROBLEM . corruption is the big problem Glencoe is not B- BBEE but is definitely corrupt black people must be empowered and procurement procedures must be adhered to aggressively .

BEE was never about helping the average black South African. From the start it was all about enriching politically connected ANC cadres. You don't really think that Cyril became an overnight billionaire because of his business acumen, do you?

  • @mambaman9363
    @mambaman9363 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

It’s quite easy to explain simplistically. After apartheid ended there was a purge of highly experienced white personnel from all walks of business and government. These people were replaced by ANC approved cadres who had contributed to the struggle. They also recruited all available non white people who on paper had some form of academic qualification, but little experience. The purged white people either went private or emigrated. There was a decade period from the mid 90s where there was a boom in promotion opportunities as the first wave of ANC appointed personnel rapidly climbed the management ladder, even before they had demonstrated competency and gained experience. Coupled to this was their desire to rapidly have the same financial and property style of life and possessions that the apartheid white population had enjoyed. The pathway to success followed a predictable pattern - 1994 appointment to a position in an institution during the government of national unity; purging of the whites and several quick promotions; 1996-2000 appointment to high level executive positions such as director general; 2005 movement to the private business sector as a multiple director on boards. Enrichment through stipends and shares. Corruption proliferated under the ANC who ensured that their deployed cadres, apart from enriching themselves, also enriched the mother organization.
Over the last 25 years they have built an enormous unsustainable spider web of corruption at all levels inside and outside government. BEE and cadre deployment has been the core strategy behind the operations of the ANC. The Zondo commission has but scraped the tip of the iceberg.
I wish you good luck in debating this topic. You’ll find it difficult to find any part of the web that can be easily dismantled and repaired. An enormous task requiring a drastic intervention which Cyril Ramaphosa is not only incapable of implementing, but also he’s unsuitable as he himself has been party to creating the web.

BEE means middle man supplying services/goods with no first hand knowledge and expertise as he will go to the OEM should there be a crisis which affects guarantees and warranties and delays especially in essential services eg eskom which can cripple an economy. PG didn't give it much thought in the ramifications it will have instead it concentrated in eliminating the white completely but enriching certain blacks who could not create jobs as they were young and required just flashy cars and houses instead of growing the economy.
If continued it will cripple the economy completely

The root cause of South Africa's problems is poor governance, realistically until our country has competent governance in place, things will continue to worsen on levels that defy the logic of our wildest imagination

    • @lindsayjoshua6207

The people in government especially our President has a different agenda. It's like in the beginning of time they bartered our people into slavery for jewellery and then guns. Then they kill, destroy, or remove a large proportion of the inhabitants, also our countrymen/women in groups of one in every 10 had been decimated with deseases. This is now our government policy and that is why the country is purposely let to go down. South Africa can prosper without the outside world interfering.
Slavery didn't only start when whites come over and capture our people but our King and chief of tribes bartered their people into slavery. This is exactly our Presidents intentions now, it's not to rescue the country but to fill the pockets of chiefs (his cabenet).

The basic principle, if the best person gets the job. It drives up productivity. It forces people to work harder indirectly.
The moment you replace that with color politics. Then the person getting the job is not actually the best person for the job.
What would you expect would happen, if you employ people not based on the best person for the jobs.

Pravin Gordhan can be quoted about efficiently buying IBM mainframe computers for SARS from IBM (who makes them) as being cost efficient and totally not necessary for advancing the interests of one annointed BEE billionaire as an intermediary. This was many years ago, and now politically, when you buy a turbine from GE or Alstrom you must now buy it from an intermediary, is a direct contradiction of his own public statements. He had political space to say one thing, but now must say another.
Also Eskom is already privatised, all the valuable assets are gone, and the end of life ones are left so don't even bother.
