When my Grandfather came to Kansas City after immigrating from Sicily and proudly learning our language and everything else to become an American citizen, he ended up running a street car rail installation/maintenance crew. The streetcar system then was extensive! My Father's first job was as a water boy for my Grandpa's crew! Much of the working of the original systems remain buried underneath Kansas City's streets to this day! As they reworked rails he collected and re-purposed cobblestones (I know I'm digressing a bit but at age 57 I still remember when the streets in Northeast KCMO were cobblestone and each corner had beautiful inlaid tile street names!) He installed a cobblestone walkway between his brownstone and his neighbor's on Harrison (In little Italy/The North End) with the help of my Uncle Sam and my Father! (all passed) He was such a perfectionist that to this very day there's not a single weed growing in or along that walkway! All of this is my walk down memory lane as a 2nd generation American born Italian American as well as my way of saying this should be expanded greatly! Go to Winner Road between Truman Road and the curve at about E 13th Street heading toward the Englewood shopping area and see how wide it is on the side that doesn't have a frontage street. I'd always been told it's because there used to be a street car station there. To make a very long story short (Too late!) please keep expanding the new streetcar system!

Glad to see the camera in the front window! Where there was dual track, never saw another streetcar. Strange!

Don’t move to the northland , GO to Johnson County , That’s the BIG CITY

It's only "big" because of suburban sprawl.

@@jrayproductions7790 Johnson county is denser than Jackson county and kcmo is mostly sprawled homes and has a higher percentage of detached single family homes than Lenexa and Overland Park. You speak silly nonsense

@@jrayproductions7790 there’s actually more people living within 5 miles of downtown Overland Park than within 5 miles of downtown kcmo. If anything kcmo is more sprawled please do research

This streetcar video really perplexes me.
I grew up in Kansas City in the 50’s. Rode the real old streetcars, there was no “light rail”
The street car system started in Dobson, ran through the Waldo area, then Brookside, on to Country Club Plaza, then to Westport and on downtown past Liberty Memorial and Union Station areas. Then downtown past KC Power and Light.
I can’t tell where this route starts. Certainly not where we thought of it as starting,
No trees!!! Why the south half of the route was loaded with tree lined boulevards!
    Not so in this clip.

My mother rode the streetcars (Dodson line) in 1957.

This video clip linked below I found is THE KC streetcar system I ride as a kid in the 50’s. You can see how I said the route had many trees and ran along pretty boulevards.
They were so much fun to ride! Smooth with a gentle side to side rocking motion.

Is this Kansas City, Kansas or Missouri? The people there seemed friendly enough and waved at the driver but I didnt see a single person get on for the whole trip. Was this the only streetcar running? I didnt see any other streetcars going the other way.

Putting the stations after the intersection seems like poor design to me. What happens when the streetcar stops to pickup/let off passengers and the light at the intersection turns red. Any traffic behind the streetcar now blocks the intersection and opposing traffic.

The signals are all calibrated with the streetcar. They won’t change until the streetcar is moving again
