Saw all 3 of them in the theater. They just get better. Maurice ( the orangutan) was played by a girl. The extras are pretty good. I'm a big fan of the originals and I thought this reboot was outstanding.

I have a hard time watching now as my mother has Alzheimer's. She has no idea what state I live in and sometimes doesn't recognize me. At dinner a year ago, she was telling someone a story about me and halfway through started directing it to me, because she firgit who I was. Then add the spread of COVID, and I can barely deal with it.

Have any of you watched any of the 5 original films from the late-'60s/'70s? Having grown up with them (each with varying degrees of quality), this 3-film reboot of the story was a revelation. It's so cool if you have that original base to draw on when watching this 3-film reboot. These newer films are excellent on their own as well (as you're finding out), but this is ENTIRELY different than the way the original series started.

There are tons of call backs in the movie. I would have to watch the whole movie again but CESARS mom was named BRIGHT EYES. That was the name the female doctor ZIRA cave CHARLTON Heston in the original movie. Dr. ZIRA and Cornelius were the parents of CESAR I. The original movies from the 70’s. I am glad you noticed the trip to mars in the news because that is also a callback to the original movies. I am sure I will think of some more but I really enjoyed this reaction because these movies are very different than most movies out there.

Here's a fun fact, Andy Serkis (Ceasar) played King Kong in Peter Jackson's remake and Toby Kebbell (Koba in the next film) played Kong in Kong: Skull Island. The latter stating his work with Andy Serkis on Dawn of the Planet of the Apes helped with his performance as Kong.

Ceasar is one of my favorite movie characters of all time. Played by the great Andy Serkis. This dude should not only have oscars, but they should name a special Oscar for motion-capture acting in his honor.
By the way, you guys completely missed the newscast of the ship taking off with the original crew from the original Planet of the Apes movies with Charleston Heston. Forgot how anxiety-provoking these movies are. Hard to say this one was super fun to watch. You got Alzheimer's, corporate greed, super strong angry intelligent apes, Draco Malfoy, awkward teen years, a worldwide pandemic, and interspecies conflict. Kind of a bummer. This trilogy is about many things. It shows humans exploited aped, basically enslaving them only because we see them as inferior to us. This movie is about rising against oppression and tyranny. Where cesar, not only the best character, but the real main character in the trilogy. This is his story. His journey. But more than that, its about humanity, the good and bad, what it means to be humans. And so much more.

This movie is probably one of the best movies I have ever watched. Amazing writing, beautiful cgi and effects and the acting is so unbelievably good. This film wouldn’t be nearly as good if Andy Serkis wasn’t Ceasar, he completely carried this film. I suggest you guys go and watch the BTS of this movie because it’s just mind blowing. It’s honestly up there with both James Cameron Avatar films. It’s definitely the most real I’ve ever seen an animal get on screen without it straight up being real. Two of my favorite scenes are the ones where he speaks, it just gives me full body chills and still did all through the series. My favorite of the series is definitely Dawn, but War is incredible too.

Also ❤ Caesar with his human family relationship then as a leader of the apes! 👍 This is the best in the series, imho. 🤔 But guys, I don't understand why you kept saying "animals are ok when they're small but when they get to a certain age, they change... become aggressive..." so, watch out! If you replace the word "animals" for "humans", it's the same thing. Don't also grow up to be violent, self-entitled, egotistical, murderous destroyers of most living things? Quite frankly, we're worst than any "animals" 🙄

So glad you guys picked this trilogy up! It's so well made! Plus, considering what a world epidemic we've been through recently, where the animals have been as far as reported, immun and it only affected the human race, it's kind of scary, how the whole PoA (even the old originals/books) "predicted" something like this might happen (like it's still unconfirmed, but the c-virus most likely has spread out out of a facility like in this movie). People are doomed to eliminate their race and yet still nature keeps going on, because this is (in a speed) exactly how humans came to be, evolving from primates, building a society etc... Ofcourse Andy Serkis is incredible in here, but the character of Caesar itself is one of the best and humane portraits ever created, a true leader we can only dream of. So excited for the sequels!

Rewatching these movies after learning sign language is absolutely fascinating. This is a great trilogy. BTW, they are all apes. Monkeys have tails and spend much more time in the trees. Apes don't have tails. We share almost all our DNA with chimpanzees. And, humans have retrovirus as part or our genetic makeup from infections millions of years ago. We also share some of those retroviruses with chimpanzees. So, it's not that far fetched that a virus might make a positive change in chimps leading to this evolutionary leap.

Brian Cox is always great. I'll always remember him as Hogan from the Sharpe series with Sean Bean. If you haven't seen that I know you would all enjoy it. Hope Mason has had a chamomile tea to calm his nerves.

I’ve never seen the originals (I’ve known of them) but I really like this trilogy! I enjoy Caesar’s character throughout the whole series.

What i love abour this plot is that they pay homage to the original actor, charlton heston, because he was suffering with alzheimer's

The motioncapture for Ceasar Is soooo good. Andy does such an amazing job.
Once the trilogy is over I can recommend Tintin: secret of the unicorn. Another amazing motion capture movie with him doing his absolute best.

Fun fact: the space ship Icarus that you see on the tv, is the same ship from the original movie.

I relate to Masion Quinn they are absolutely terrifying. You will never catch me observing monkeys or w.e at the zoo. I heard a story where this new zoo keeper was changing the chimpanzees tray but it didn't put it where they usually do so she had to stick her arm in the cage. The employee was going to stick her arm in but someone stopped her and they told her to look in the cage. In the cage there was the biggest chimpanzee was watching her and standing on its two feet. It was waiting for her to stick her arm in so it could attack. 😭😭literally so scary I wouldn't wanna work there anymore

That “No!” made me 💩 myself. Any nonhuman with human or near human intelligence is a terrifying thought.

Chimps are actually only 1.5 times stronger then us but they also have a stronger grip force, stronger bite force and quicker reflex muscles

One of the best Trilogies ever made.
All the acting across all 3 films is superb but Andy Serkis is the MVP (most valuable primate!)
The next 2 in the Trilogy are stunning films.

im so excited. i love these movies. i think they are really well done. and that ending hits different post pandemic. oof. but yeah if they were gonna capture, imprison, and mistreat animals they maybe shouldnt have made them hyper intelligent. looking forward to seeing you watch the other two.
