  • Hey!!
    This was a quick video and I’m very very tempted to make a longer video about the Yunjin issue specifically because i see a building narrative that I don’t personally believe is fair.
    This also might be partially biased because though i’m not really a stan, I listen to Le Sserafim a lot. Keep that in mind.
    Thank you for watching!!!
    Ciao for now,

    As if the girls are not getting dragged everyday by other fandoms for nothing and also that church is not even an actual church but a movie set where a lot of Music videos and movies shot there where was the backlash then??

    I think the hate would've been less intense had Garam stayed to balance out the group's vocals, they're kinda known as a group that can't sing and honestly it does ruin the song for me when some members start their parts sometimes, that makes it easier for ppl to hate on them, I knew that line about changing the industry would bite Yunjin in the behind the second I heard it during their intro trailer, and the way she said it and the songs she writes😭😭 I like them still and I'll wait for their 2nd album to decide if they peaked at debut or not. (So for me the problem they have is the untalented vocal wise members outnumber the talented ones, some ppl might not like how Yunjin presents herself I guess and the rigging controversy for Chaewon that seems to persist on the Korean side, a Korean commenter brought it up on a video of their performance on a music show under a fan's comment with other comments complaining about their lack of singing skills, but she's also the most talented one in the group and has my favorite voice, there was a new interview with a could've been member of izone that was rigged out and I saw someone say she was robbed of so much and as an example could've fit with Lesserafim and a problem I have in that vein is the fact that Kazuha debuted in a short while while not being vocally gifted while other girls were cut out, same with Eunchae honestly, no way there weren't girls as pretty and good at dancing AND singing, that makes me conflicted about them, and the fact they keep including something about ballet every comeback like staahhhppp, I still don't understand that line in Easy, had Garam stayed it wouldn't have been as noticeable I feel like, though I had a problem with that since Fearless, they're like if Red Velvet debuted without Joy to balance out Yeri and Irene (who I love just saying...) and Twice without Jeongyeon, her, Jihyo and Nayeon do so much heavy lifting in that group even if Jeongyeon isn't utilised enough, the difference one vocalist makes is huge to balance out a group, Ive has that problem too with only 2 competent singers and 1 really good one but all their tones are good, no one has an truly grating voice and the rappers don't ruin the song, I'm sure their were more talented trainees but overall they complement each other well)

      i’ve noticed that too!! i often wonder what it would’ve been as OT6, not just vocally, but since Garam would’ve helped balance the ages of the group out since she was in between Eunchae and the Unnies. I’m wondering if they still would’ve done mature choreographies if there were two young members, too, or if Hybe would’ve tamed that down.

      @@topiaryythaving Garam would've saved their discography and image so much I'll never stop being bitter about it😭😭😭 (though source played themselves too by leaning too much into visuals and disregarding vocals with 3 singers/3 non singers without thinking of bad scenarios, Hybe of today can never debut another BTS with the visual obsession all their subsidiaries have and disregard of talent and non of them ever give good vocal training since day 1) The RV balance is what gave birth to the myth that they're an all vocal group. And honestly I think the choreography would've been the same especially since Eunchae will be an adult this year I think, it is what it is Source does not care....

    I really think it's some kind of build-up frustration of the fans. I've been a fearnot myself from debut up to unforgiven, but the music quality was disappointing so I unstanned even before this comeback. The same thing with eunchae, people have been complaining every cb. So now, all these past things, new things like dancing in the church and just people's desire to hate ended up being mixed. Even though I don't stan them anymore, I feel kinda sorry, I have good feelings about them, but on the other side I'm glad that people complain about music quality and eunchae's safety

      I lost interest in LeSserafim when Hybe unjustly dumped Garam my favorite member for defending her friend from nearly nude photos being posted online by the rich jealous bully Eunseu way back when Garam was 12. A paid for character assassination loaded with lies. Not allowing Garam to release the official documents and using her for hype was extremely cruel they couldn't have handled it any worse. It is totally contradicts their image since they dumped the most fearless defender of friends.

    Long text ahead, SO get Yourself some popcorns:
    So Topiary, i have to respectfully disagree with you, i don't think LS is getting a hate train as a we know it of, but more so a cumulation of problems that people had with management and creative direction of the group. Whether be in it's musical direction, styling, choreos and questionable decisions regarding minors on the group. No one it's denying that are people that hate or dislike LS, that's bound to happened, but calling it a hate train is a bit of reach, especially compared to other groups in Kpop even in the 4th gen like I-DLE, Aespa, Kep1er, Ive, Stayc and others.
    I think the main reason why people are not letting LS slip of the controversies of the comeback are simple: the music. As sad as it sounds, if you have the people good music/listenable music, they'll forgive You and move on, and people are pretty divided on this comeback. Some Say it's a breezy and carefree song while others said that it comes from One of the most mid eras in Western Pop music. Add to that the controversy with the plagarism accusations and the situation with Eunchae; the choreo and lyrics of the songs, and you get a recipe for a PR nightmare.
    Now as of the 'Get the K out of Kpop' is a conversation i'm not ready to have but i'm willing to say this: Hybe always wanted Western validation, and they're willing to get it at any cause. And they take advantage of that bcuz most people consider them a "Unproblematic" company.
    So that will be it, thank u for coming to my TED Talk

      @topiaryyt  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      I’m unsure about whether it’s a “hate train” myself, but used that phrasing because other people have been very heavily doomposting about them getting a “hate train”.
      i do think all of these criticisms are valid. but if you watch my video, i specified that these same issues have been prevalent for a while, and there are thousands of people using this specific comeback as a sounding board to voice their issues with the girls in general. i’m not very active on kpop twitter and even I noticed an uptick in people making fun of Kazuha’s ballet steps, or saying Yunjin gives them ‘bully vibes’, and these posts are simply getting more attention and likes now because it’s deemed acceptable to hate on le sserafim since this accumulation of issues with their management has been brought up more severely with this comeback.
      now, whether that can be considered a hate train, i’m not sure yet. no matter what, it’s definitely not comparable to Itzy after Sneakers, or even Stayc after BM. But I also said that in the video, making a note to compare what’s happening with LS more to Itzy’s MITM backlash-something stemming from valid concerns, which antis then take as a ‘Dexter’ moment now that they have free reign to criticize the group and its members.

    I loved Easy! I don't know why people think this song is lazy. The melody is quite easy to sing and fits the members' vocal ranges although for some reason they still used a lot of autotune for Kazuha and Sakura
    Honestly, I found Le Ssera's previous TTs to be uninspired. Repeating "unforgiven, I'm a villain, unforgiven unforgiven unforgiven", "antititititi fragile fragile antitititi fragile antitititi fragile fragile" and "what you lookin at what you what you lookin at, what you lookin at what you what you lookin at, what you lookin at what you what you lookin at" feels, well, uninspired and an *easy* way to write lyrics and put a song together (pun fully intended)
    Second thing is I felt like out of all the groups rn, Le Ssera has the most developed concept. Even this song feels like Le Ssera with their confident, cool aesthetic. I'm not very well versed in fashion and aesthetics but Le Ssera's one was ubiquitous within their discography apart from I guess Perfect Night. Their musical identity is neat and I was surprised how they made an *easy* listen song like Easy still fit that badass confident vibe they carry throughout
    I think people are nitpicking on this song and starting their hate trains because, well, Le Ssera is quite big now. Some people have said that a lot of people see Le Ssera as a threat to their bias' popularity and I wonder how true this is

    • @topiaryyt
      @topiaryyt  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      I did notice that too, it’s curious that all of these issues have always existed (like Eunchae doing the sexual choreo in their debut MV) yet people are only widely critiquing it now, after Perfect Night, which was their most popular song, and Coachella…

    • @bierangtamen
      @bierangtamen 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @topiaryyt Exactly! I think you were really onto something with your observation on hate after Coachella. It's just mainstream groups get hate (which usually consists of BTS and ggs).
      Other bgs usually don't receive this kind of reception EVEN if they do well because people from gp don't check out their music as much; it's usually more confined to their fanbase. Bgs also have a more united and defensive fanbase whereas rn I am seeing barely anyone standing up for Le Ssera - there is just a huge difference between gg and bg fandoms. To me, this means that ggs invite so many people outside the fandom to check out their music, and as we know, Kpop fans outside that fanbase tend to have strong rivalry so it's no surprise when they begin a trending hate train for a release by a certain gg
      I would be really excited to see you make a video on bg vs gg fandoms. I feel like, yes misogyny may permeate these spaces but there is a lot more going on because the very foundations of how these fandoms are constructed is slightly different. The average stan for a gg probably listens to many ggs and 1 or 2 bgs that they will defend with their life lol (my observations from Reddit)

      @@topiaryytI feel like people have always had an issue with eunchae doing certain choreography but it’s being more highlighted because of
      1. How many times it has happened
      2. Greater attention to the group from the Coachella announcement
      I think more people are seeing the issues because of le sserafims recent wave of success so in my opinion it’s only being widely critiqued now not because of a sudden hate train but because they have more eyes on them so there is less room for die hard fans to drown out criticisms❤

However even though I love them, it is not to the point that I will fight for them online or spend money on them. Girl groups attract casual listeners that’s why they are called digital monsters however this doesn’t convert them to being fans so their physical sales is much lower.

    The Lesserafim hate rain is no way near how big the Itzy hate train was (it might get worse in the future though so ıdk) but I think they were caused by the same two things.
    Both groups had a "love yourself"/"be confident in yourself" message at debut and I honestly think the fact that these companies who always dot on every move of their idols, making sure they're perfect make them sing songs with those massages feels very hypocritical and it just rubs people the wrong way. And then it eventually turned into hate.
    The other reason is the thing I'll call "hit after the first hit" thing. It's pretty self explanatory, groups who have a hit song that shoots them into 'stardom' need to follow it up with hit the same size or bigger then the previous one to really cement their place in the industry. As an example Newjeans had Hype Boy and they followed it up with Ditto.
    Meanwhile Itzy's "big hit" that is undeniably Wannabe was followed up by Not Shy, which did good but fell short next to Wannabe. The same way Lesserafim had Antifragile which was followed by unforgiven and just like Not Shy after Wannabe even though it did good, it was a downgrade.
    This didn't fuel the hate train ofcourse but it did make these groups easier targets.

Ive's recent releases Baddie, Off the Record and Either Way are three different tracks that I never would have expected to be in their discography since their concept, in my interpretation, was kinda like the classy, elegant idols
