Reading the description about the power ups being more dangerous than the actual bullets, I like to call this "low item trust" where as the player you don't trust the game is helping you with item drops ha. This is why the gradius style power up bar is so elegant and good, cuz then all the power ups are pooling into trust and you can refuse to not change your weapon if you don't want to.
You always have great insights. I've wondered if I should see unwanted power ups as essentially more bullets. For example, could it be good game design where items or power ups are thrown toward the player in large amounts to the point where dodging them becomes a challenge in itself?
@@wtfdoihavetodohere The capsule monster in Gokujou Parodius/Sexy Parodius is this to some extent, if you're trying to avoid roulette capsules or are playing auto-powerup mode and want to avoid powerups for rank control.
