Why do we ACTUALLY gain weight?
Someone on TikTok commented that humans didn't really have obesity until recently (a point of contention), and that we don't see obesity in wild animals either (another point of contention, but I digress).
This gives me an opportunity to discuss WHY we actually gain weight.
No, not "we eat more calories than we burn", that is well accepted by anyone who reads a lot of obesity literature.
    - Why causes us to consume more energy than we burn?
    - Why did so many people start gaining weight at once?
    - Why do some people find it easier to gain weight than others?

I recently came across your videos, love them and thank you. Was on the enter verge of purchasing v-shred. I have a weight problem and I do not eat desserts or sugary items!! I stick to a what I feel is a healthy diet of meat and veggies, organics, rarely eat out, stopped consuming alcohol/wine but yet I still gain and have a hard time with weight loss in my mid 50s as a female. My carb consumption is low due to the feelings I get after eating them. Overall, I have zero health problems per my annual physicals other than obesity. At 5' 11" and 265, I absolutely hate my body, where is my 185 that I sported around for years? I am lazy, I hate working out. The workout room next to my bedroom, yeah right. I do like to walk when I have the energy, which comes and goes. I am hoping to find help with watching your videos and perhaps your book. Maybe it's all a mind fuck and motivation issue. Maybe I don't actually eat enough with 2 meals a day. Who knows. I cannot identify the root cause. Perhaps it will come to me watching your videos.

It is so true and obvious. I doubt there is much to do to reverse the food environment because people would complain about that too because we hate being look at as animals even though that is exactly what we are. I'm glad I love vegetables more than Ruffles and cake. I like to eat junk on occasion, but the taste isn't that great after a helping and I start to prefer to some mashed potatoes with some butter and milk with a simple grilled and seasoned steak and some broccoli or Brussel spouts cooked in in the left over seasoned beef fat. That hyper-palatable, overly sweetened and salty food starts to taste like crap after you eat some.

100 years ago there were escalators or elevators, people walked more, ate more (yes they did eat way more than us), and were by default more physically active because most jobs were labour intensive. You can see the same happening in many developing countries too where knowledge workers are replacing manual labourers.

What helped me is not to buy foods i cannot resist eating. If i buy a chocolate bar, i cannot not eat the whole thing. Only thing i can do is, If i buy it, i should expect to eat the whole thing, otherwise i should not buy it.
    Cheers!

Alcohol will definitely do it. Not only does it lower your body's metabolism for fat burning, but you also wind up eating a load of junk. Best thing to do is to clean out your liver and completely cut out drinking to lose weight. You'll also get rid of that horrible puffiness.

There certainly is an epidemic of obese people right now but there have been obese people throughout history- and I guess for the reasons you’re talking about? Polynesians (and I say this because 1/2 my family is Polynesian) - Native American tribe in Arizona Aki Cin Oodham - I only know from living there but they were so used to living off of nothing that when the settlers came and more food was brought into availability for them- their metabolisms didn’t adapt well. I guess what I’m saying is that they’re eating normally and ending with obesity.
