    • @keekaro
      @keekaro ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@MoldyCheeseGamin Sorry for the text wall I will try to get as much as I can ^-^
      First off I want to specify I breed different breeds of neocaridina shrimp, specify red crystals and jades. The shrimp seen in this video are cardinia breeds and I haven't bred those but they do need different requirements then neos.
      All shrimp no matter the species, are very very sensitive to water changes, Its less about optimal parameters and more about consistent parameters. For example, a dramatic water change like more the 25% may stress or kill the animals or stop them from breeding.
      I breed my shrimp in slightly tannic water as I like having leaf litter around for them to hide and feed on, because of this the ph goes around 6.8 to 7, it is critical that there isn't too much of a drastic ph fluctuation, but do NOT chase a ph, it never ends well. Temp is important to keep consistent as well, Ive found neos are most comfortable at around 70 f but this can change, just NEVER fluctuate the temperature top fast, if a heater is in a tank remember the water should be about the same temp as the new water during water change.
      Shrimp are very sensitive to ammonia and nitrites, remember always cycles an aquarium completely before adding shrimp and test thoroughly. They are far less hardy then fish with cycling.
      Something not many people talk about, if the water doesn't have enough minerals shrimp may have trouble molting, causing the "ring of death" where a shrimp is unable to molt and will die. Crushed coral helps tremendously with this and I would definitely recommend.
      Not many people mention this but neos and cardiniad best food source is algea, and a tank with a lot of algea growth is going to perform amazing off the bat, a good way for algea to grow is by fish poop, if you do add fish remember to add a lot of hiding places such as java moss and pick either herbivores or small schooling fish like chilli rasboras however the tank mush be at least 10 gallons and this is not required.
      Remember to give your shrimp an inch of substrate, as not doing so stresses them out.
      Remember to water change once a week or week and a half if its not bioactive
      I hope this helps, I know I gave more information then you asked but a lot of videos dont give that critical information, hope you consider it! is really rewarding!

    Caring for shrimp isn’t the same as caring for fish, it takes more care and patience. They are very delicate animals and very picky with their water parameters. Mine have not made it past a couple of weeks. Some have lasted 1-2 days and I know a little bit about fish keeping. It’s a good money making hobby of you’re willing to put time into caring for them so your money doesn’t get flushed down the toilet…

    Fun fact, some of the more common and hardy aquarium shrimp, like cherry shrimp, are even easier to take care of than said in the video. For mine just clean it twice a week, throw a heater in and they’ve been breeding like crazy. I don’t even add extra food for the because they just eat algae

  • @ajet8284
    @ajet8284 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    Its all fun and games until the shrimp die because you put new water in that is just slightly off their parameters and they molt too soon 😩
    I have shrimp. Yes, for anyone asking who buys, its a whole hobby and people pay crazy amounts for rare lines. But its not a side hustle to get into to get rich quick, you've got to legitimately love the little guys. Not even saying that to be a softie, shrimp are just VERY fragile and a lot of research is needed. Its a hobby that can potentially pay for itself...but a LOT of beginner mistakes can cost you the whole tank. I'm still new and I have to reset mine soon. Never intended to sell mine they're just pets.
    And anyway once you get in that deep where youre selling fancy grade shrimp... chances are the money you make selling shrimp goes into getting more tanks and shrimp lol its an addiction

    Bearded dragons will get you wayyyyy more cash. Some breeeds can go for 1k+ if you get like a hypo or coloured leatherback. Each time they will lay upto 90 eggs sooo yeahhhhhh :)

      But what's the cost in time and setup compared to shrimp?

    • @stunnin420ify
      @stunnin420ify ปีที่แล้ว

      @@crypticgamma6308 oh idk. I didn’t tally things up but I had a $100 incubator I got for $40 and substrate was probably another 40, when they hatched I’d just put them all in a big box with a log in the middle and some cheap uvb lights with a ceramic heater. For food their diet when young is mostly protein so crickets which are cheap also could try them dry red pellets to be even cheaper but it’s not expensive after you get everything going. I’m sure shrimp is much easier and cheaper ofc

      Bearded dragons take up significantly more space. The bare minimum size you’re meant to house a single adult in, is a 4x2x2 / 120 gallon. Those can be expensive if you’re going with glass or PVC (often times close to $500 per enclosure depending on where you buy from, the lowest I’ve seen is $250-$300), and adults have diets that are a lot more hands-on than shrimp.
      They are demanding. They *need* UVB lights, space, and attention. They also do *not* lay 90 eggs at a crack. It’s typically 20. Though they may be paired multiple times over the course of a breeding season.
      Not to mention, after each time the female lays eggs, you need to replenish her calcium levels. It’s very exhausting for her, and it’s rough on their bodies.
      You’d also have to wait until they’re at least 6 inches long or so to sell them. Anything below that is way too tiny. They’d probably have to be moved into their own individual tubs or enclosures by then, as well.
      I do not recommend doing this if you’re not experienced in keeping reptiles, which you unfortunately don’t *exactly* seem to be.

      I’m not even going to mention the cost of the pair of bearded dragons themselves. If you want to breed leatherbacks, for instance, you’re going to need a pair of leatherbacks, or for the individuals to have genes that allow for the production of leatherbacks.
      That’s going to be expensive. I’m not trying to be an ass, but these two things aren’t really comparable.
