COASTAL FORAGING - The Gift That Keeps On Giving. ( oyster conservation)

- Coastal foraging is about much more than just finding wild food to eat. You need to understand each of the various habits and how it's inhabitants interacts with each other and with adjacent habitats. From the base of the food chain to the very top, removal of too much of any layer will have a serious detrimental effect on the whole ecosystem. ONLY collect an amount for your needs and don't collect too much from one area-vary your gathering over a wider area. A scenic video of cooking and pickling/preserving foraged wild oysters with wild garlic, rose hips and rock samphire on the coast of Carmarthenshire in Wales UK. I also try and repopulate the bay with native oysters. Finding another use for the oyster shells is also explained. "Did I say we found a pearl" we did ! It was nice day out and I'm delighted to share it with you.

You're Facebook link is not working Craig. Great video!
Thank you for letting me know 416 rem, much appreciated , regards Craig
Great Video! I would be happy to receive a jar of that on Christmas, given that the oysters here in the Philippines are quite tiny. :)
How long does it take for the oysters to be pickled and ready to eat? Also, what is the usual shelf life?
You can eat them immediately , but I would leave then for 2 wekks to develop the flavour. If you use6% vinegar then I would keep them in the fridge and use within 4 months , regards Craig

Another fantastic, informative video Craig. Brilliant. And what a location. Keep up the great work....👍
It's all about the location Tim,thank you, regards Craig
Audio is much better as well. Great job.
Thank you Almonte, much better equipment and we try to film out of the wind, regards Craig
merci that is amazing. you are great.
Nice of you to say so Pat, regards Craig
Good learning channel but I do not agree with the way you give out location's, there are many dubious characters that will rape an area for monetary gains, many foreigners have been arrested for raping areas of its wild food recourses for the restaurant industry and some areas are finding it very hard to recover. Please do not give out unnecessary information like location's and area's, if everybody whent out because of your information and killed off the wild harvest how would you feel.
Great comment Neanderthal Outdoors, you will note that I did not forage the oysters at that location, in any event it is particularly difficult for anybody to access that location. this video was more about promoting Wales as a tourist destination, Kind regards Craig
Super video again.Last time I was on Pendine Sands was in 1974......I must make an effort to visit South Wales again.
Thank you Rita, there are some exciting developments taking place at Pendine including a hotel and a new museum of speed, regards Craig
Your videos keep getting better and better! I will always come back to this channel every time you upload. Looking forward for more.
I will publish every fortnight, regards Craig
Love your channel Craig, and I must say the video quality and editing are leaps and bounds ahead of many other larger channels. Very polished and professional looking!
That's a great comment Michael, we've tried hard to improve the quality, regards Craig

Great ideas you had. Loved the candle idea. Few years ago my son and I grew loofah sponges 🧽 and made soap and packaged for the females in the family for Christmas presents They were all surprised and pleased. My son was so proud to give out something he grew and made. 😎

Craig. Myself and daughter were out on a walk at fresh water west the other day and becuase of your videos were were able to have fun rock tipping (and placing back just as found of course) . Finding crabs, scorpion fish and also was happy with myself for identifying some sea beat.
Hi Craig! What a lovely introduction you have now!
Nice of you to say so Teri, regards Craig
Been wanting to forage food like how you do it.. Great job Craig!
Thank you for your kind words Christianne 213 , regards Craig
Thanks Craig! I love the content and have been a fan for a long time. Can you explain how long you cook the Oysters and other food for while you prepare it? I've always wondered how you knew when everything was done.
Mussels /cocles take around 4 minutes or until the shells open ,then a bit more. I would cook oysters/soft shell clams for at least 8 minutes, due to their larger size, regards Craig
Cutest puppy! Absolutely love your content. It’s so satisfying and beautiful to watch. A beautiful piece of nature I won’t get to see living in central Australia.
Great comment Brad, It's great to be able to show our part of the world to places such as yours ,kind regards Craig
Hi,
I was wondering how you manage to light that log in the way that you do?
I 'll demonstrate that in my next video Ben, regards Craig
@@coastalforagingwithcraigev8447 thank you very much
So much respect for you for trying to populate that area with oysters. Not many people would be willing to go out of their way to return what they've foraged to nature.
wow, production is amazing these days,..... camera and focus are brilliant, the pictures are as good as the words.....nice one Craig and cameraperson
Thank you MrFlyingguy, Jon does a great job, regards Craig
This is making me hungry !!!
