This video looks to be from early 70s. Dionne first sang ‘Alfie’ at the 1967 Academy Awards and recorded it immediately thereafter. The AA performance was phenomenal and the video is on YT. Dionne credits this song with elevating her career to another level.
She has 56 singles land on the hot billboard 100, second only to Aretha!! And no, she was not someone to mess with! There’s a long history of feuds between her and Aretha that I have heard allegedly are quite nasty. But Arisa was threatened by any woman that was trying to make a name for herself, and that’s just how petty she really was.! Love you, Dionne!!
Cynthia Erivo's performance of Alfie at the Kennedy Center Honor to Dionne Warwick was stunning. Her voice is unbelievably beautiful, soulful. Dionne Warwick did some of her greatest powerhouse singing in the 1980s by the way. BIG ballads that required full belts and e x t e n d e d notes. See her performances on Johnny Carson. There are at least 8 incredible LIVE powerhouse hits and 80s ballads. Dionne was a gorgeous singer who sang with great technique AND good taste.
Dionne looks like she should’ve been Whitney’s mother, instead of her Aunt! They look so alike, style the way they dress, the way they sang in some respects! I just could never get over that! RIP Cissy Houston!
for you to know Bab sang it also.. ;) on that rendering of the song Dionne is also going for the emotion and not onoy the musicality where she is a master she use her voice as an instrument where Bab is telling the story. In that performance whitney surely picked bites and pieces ;à)
Must admit, as much as I love Dionne, if I listen to this song I always listen to Cilla Black or Barbra Streisand doing it lol Didn't know Dionne even sang it! Love Dionne btw - I feel she doesn't get as much love as she should :)
Was written, like so many other songs, for Dionne to sing. Dionne thought it was worthless to record this as it had been recorded by 40+ artists by the time she did at the urging of the composer. Dionne’s version was first to chart in the US, and now often associated with her because of her commercial success others didn’t have in US and composer affinity for Dionne as singer for songs.
Burt Bacharach and Hal David wrote many songs just for her, now if that’s not a huge compliment I don’t know what was! Most Gen Z’s, don’t even know that Dionne saying all of these great ones back in the 60s. Do your homework people it’s not about who’s singing it today and covering it.!
That's a very good decision to listen to more of Ms Warwick.........go for it................:)

Another classic from the man who wrote all of her hits- Burt Bacharach. She was his muse.
Dionne is Whitney’s cousin.
He didn't write all her hits. Most yes. Isaac hayes, Barry Gibb, Barry Manilo also weote hits for her
