This is beautiful!!! I remember this concert I loved it then and love it now. I loved seeing her pay tribute to her cousin Dionne Warwick who is also had an amazingly beautiful voice!!! ❤❤❤❤
Burt Bacharach just died and he and Dionne Warwick had a magical relationship that produced the great hits on this video, among others. I was a little kid when these hits came out but I remember them being on the radio and get a nostalgic feeling from them. I was 21 when Whitney Houston went big and I absolutely LOVE Whitney Houston. I cried when she died. Her music was in the background to a lot of my life's significant moments of the time. You know how at that age, everything is dramatic. Well, Whitney Houston's music was the perfect backdrop to those moments.
What is absolutely incredible, magical and astonishing is that Whitney could elevate a beautiful classic Bacharach standard like Alfie and take the lyrics and melody to another level. I'd argue all day long that Whitney deserves to be included in the conversation that when it comes to telling a story and delivering a message through song she is pretty much un-matched. Were as others are artists are defined by their genre, Whitney transcended genre...she delivered Pop, RnB, Hip Hop, Jazz, Gershwin, Opera, Blues with effortless ease. Love her and miss her. Simply the GOAT!
I've been a Whitney fan since "You give good love," I've seen her live 3 times, and I didn't know I could love her even more now that she's with her heavenly father. She will always be the singer everyone is compared to. WEH, luv u grrrl. U da bestest!
Wow. This is so special in many ways. Whitney may be gone but The Voice lives on. Loved all the Dionne Warwick/Burt Bacharach songs. Thanks for memory. ❤
I totally agree. This is one of my favorite performances of hers. She had the ability to take an old song and make it sound like an original effortlessly 💜
Grandissima Whitney ❤🌹
This is one of my favorite performances of Nippy singing Alfie. My Hod she sang with so much love, passion, pain, and conviction. She gave all of her when she sang for instance "There’s a heaven aboveeeeeeeeee” that part gets me every time❤️ Only one Whitney Houston.
You can touch the sky only if you are capable to understand how far it can go in our "Universe" the flight that stands out the music ; and it is the heart that illustrate to our soul where did she go to spread its wings the greatest Artist that ever existed on Planet Earth.. grazie Whitney.
just right now ive heard cynthias, chakas, the original dionnes.. whits version ive heard before.. and hearing it again reminded me that shes really the VOICE. All other versions are damn good but this right here is signature whitney.. and she made it the best.
@@awordfrompresidentpat1985 This special was amazing. I remember when it aired, I was working for the Hut of Pizzas and they tried to call me into work that night. I laughed at my manager and smoothly hung up the phone. One of my favorite songs that night was her singing I Go To The Rock. Whitney singing is phenomenal but Whitney singing gospel is heavenly.
I agree with you wholeheartedly when it comes to Whitney Houston who was in a class of her own. She sang effortlessly without making gestures and putting her hand to her ears just to sing a note. She was a TRUE singer.
I came here because I just watched Cynthia Erivo sing Alfie to Dionne Warwick at the Kennedy Center Honors, she was incredible, and I was like how have I never heard Whitney sing this. Then o saw you reacted to this medley and yeah, I adore Whitney. Pat I’m sure you heard the live version by Cynthia Erivo, but if not. Fantastic as well.
Say a little prayer was shelved for a year .written for deon but burt thought tempo was wrong...most people don't know its about her boyfriend being shot at in Vietnam.
And Whitney was not in the very best vocal prowess that night, this was sang late in her program, and she had already belted A number of songs out. But still, the Whitney Houston stamp is on the song she could call anything her own.! That’s just how much of a queen she really was
While strolling through I found this video and decided to watch it as I was listening to the first song and saw the guy who was telling the video sitting right beside the small video he was doing too much just a waving and a acting like he was going crazy he took a lot of weight from the video you can't watch a video with guys like this as much as you love and then he want to say subscribe honey he don't need to introduce nobody on the video because he is doing too much boy bye😅 you be doing too much you waving around you take a lot of weight from a video that is not even yours even trying to introduce it you shouldn't have nothing to do never with introducing anybody Vizio boy sit back you act like you're on meth or something you messed the video of boy bye forever as much as I the Whitney Houston the way you are acting stop it you are doing too much you act like you Whitney Houston boy bye forever
So refreshing to see a program uplifting Whitney instead of bashing her. One love

I repeat Whitney Houston is still the standard for a Great Female Vocalist ❤

I was there that night, and the Dionne Ward medley in my opinion was the highlight of the evening along with the gospel set!

What a great medley, one of my favorites (especially Alfie). Enjoyed your reaction as well, great job breaking the performance down!

Thank you so much for posting this rendition, the best I’ve seen of this medley. The Alfie interpretation is a go to every time. The Voice

Her voice was not at its peak by then (it was in decline from 1992...). I love her strength and energy, though...
