This hits my soul 😢 My brother who had terminal cancer came to live with me about a year before he passed (8-21-23), sometimes it was hard and demanding, but I would do it again in a heartbeat ❤ RIP little brother - love and miss you always 💔🥺🙏🏼
An orphanage founder saw a boy carrying a boy who had polio, Ruben Granger, he asked is it hard to carry him and Reuben replied no he's not heavy he's my brother.
Back in 1918, a boy named Howard Loomis was abandoned by his mother at Father Flanagan’s Home for Boys, which had opened just a year earlier. Howard had polio and wore heavy leg braces. Walking was difficult for him, especially when he had to go up or down steps. Soon, several of the Home’s older boys were carrying Howard up and down the stairs. One day, Father Flanagan asked Reuben Granger, one of those older boys, if carrying Howard was hard. Reuben replied, “He ain’t heavy, Father… he’s m’ brother.” But the story doesn’t end there. In 1943, Father Flanagan was paging through a copy of Ideal magazine when he saw an image of an older boy carrying a younger boy on his back. The caption read, “He ain’t heavy, mister… he’s my brother.”
There is an old film called Boys Town about a children’s home in America, and the statue outside showed a child being carried aloft and the motto He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother. Writers (Bobby Scott and Bob Russell) Bob Russell was dying of cancer while writing this song.
Patty-I love this song.Alan Clarke is , his name. It came out while i was in High School . It reminded me of my youngest brother. You sholud check out some of their other songs. Bus Stop, Carrie Ann, Lomg Cool Woman in a Black Dress, and Carosuel. Bus Stop and He Aint Heavy Hes my Brother, and Carosuel are my favorites,
Lead singer Alan Clark ( about 74 now ) was with the Hollies until members left the UK to form bands in America. Hollies had big hits with Bus Stop, CarryAnne, and others. They were big in the mid 60 s.to late 60 s. Graham Nash left to become a songwriter but joined a new group called Crosby and Stills. They later added Neil Young. They were very popular and known as Crosby,Stills, Nash and Young.
#Allan Clarke is now just touching 80. And this group were criminally underrated. I've seen them live in their prime several times and they were as good if not better than their studio recordings.
I saw a video to this song and it was about soldiers in combat and one of them carried another cause he got injured. My younger brother passed away from cancer this passed July and i gave the eulogy and played this song. So this song started off with one story but could mean different things to different people.
The Hollies were not the first, but certainly managed to make this song theirs. They were one of my favorite "British Invasion" bands way back when. Graham Nash left them to join up with David Crosby and Stephen Stills. Great reaction to this song which never grows old. We need this message now more than ever. ☮
You're great! Nice reaction! But on a personal level I don't think I can deal with you looking directly into the camera at me. Won't be able to subscribe. But keep up the great work!
Wow love The Hollies Allan Clarke is an amazing singer ❤ I know that you like k.d.lang you should react to her version of The Hollies song The Air That I Breathe there is a live version on TH-cam can’t put a link as TH-cam deletes my comment if I put a link on she is doing a concert singing songs from her Drag album but the album version is brilliant too ❤ x
Crazy to think this was recorded almost 50 years ago.....still absolutely relevant today ❤
For the next few days in the USA, anyway, yes...😢
I think you will like The Hollies The Air That I Breathe.
The Hollie's Long Tall woman in a black dress is 🔥🔥🔥
Definitely a gem from a group I grew up with.
This song does not mean an actual brother by blood but mankind.
It would seem obvious wouldn't it? But noooo.....
@@thomastimlin1724About a Boystown story of two brothers.

LIVE - Without Auto -Tune -A time performers had to PERFORM on the spot
Massive band through the 60s and 70s, fab vocal range , many hits sings in the UK
This song came out in 1969 by the Hollies.
We played this song as my siblings and I escorted my Brother's casket at his funeral. It holds powerful sentiments for very many reasons. ❤

I started to tell that story, but then I read yours and realized you were better informed.
The Hollies have a great back catalogue of music. Their harmonies are brilliant.
Beautiful song and I enjoy you so much you have a face of kindness and love x
This song always makes me cry, definitely pulls on the heart strings.
I LOVE this song! One of the top 10 ever.
That's a great performance of a beautiful song. I loved your reaction to one of the great British bands singing their hearts out..
This song will always be relevant !! X
beautiful song..... gives me chills.

@@realcoolbreeze I'm 77 and remember it all so well. So many brilliant songs and one Allan did stands out for me called " Don't let me down"
This song means so much to baby boomers, who were teens and in our 20’s, Vietnam era
Such a powerful song, as perfect for today as it was then. Love your emotional reaction. Thank you ❤
Thanks, brother
Elton John - who was still called Reg - played piano on this and got paid £12.
Excellent Reaction! Thank You for going back to the original. God Bless❤
Long Tall Woman is a great song, you should check that one out
Loved the Hollies, great reaction 😊
Can't wait for this, Pat! Hope you are well! ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
The lead singer is Allen Clarke 🙂

Keep it going. Great reaction

I thought Kelly Gordon sang the original 'He aint heavy, he's my brother'. Yet The Hollies sing it a lot lot better. I was 9 yrs old at the time!!
De original recording of 1969 is in my opinion even more beautiful and touching.
In their day they had a bit of a rivalry with the Beatles….at least in the UK and produce many hits.
Oh you just wait, They have a few Iconic Songs.
not originally by the Hollies.................first recorded by Kelly Gordon in 1969
This song hit the air as the Vietnam War was happening. Many soldiers wud sing this as they carried the wounded back to be treated.
We had so much hope for the future back in 1969 but that's all been crushed now by an orange goblin
No. It's been crushed by war and those who perpetuate it.

There were a lot of great groups at that time but they got drowned out by The Beatles.
