5:07 for me, it was the best moment because it foreshadowed that the girlfriend wasn't a snake like he imagined. The expression on her face was telling that she was genuinely upset with his neglectful behaviour and yet still caring about him. And I'm glad that he realised how precious their relationship was. Honestly, the whole twist is really great, it teaches us how important to be more attentive to our love ones and treasure the bonds we have. Thank you for such a great animation and story!
Both are definitely imperfect but shows that they love each other and should take steps to cater to each others needs. I can relate to both as I've had relationships where I'm not getting any attention and also just wanting to focus on other things. It's very human and we can exaggerate things making them seem more than what they are.
The fact that he jumped straight to thinking about other girls the moment he was annoyed is unbelievable. All she did was ask him to not be on his phone 24/7 and he treated her like a monster. Edit: Its not really a hamster its supposed to represent his phone. He just sees her as evil from his perspective.
Guinea pig = His phone. The motion of petting the guinea pig with his finger = scrolling his phone. Guinea pig eating flowers = His phone-addiction is destroying his relationship with his gf. Girlfriend was as lovely and sweet as the girl next table when the guy just met her. As time goes by, guy has been always distracted by his phone and neglected her. When she was upset by that, he saw her as a bossy and venomous snake and secretly compared her with another girl. Yet he didn't realize it was his attitude upsetting his gf. Relationships have to be fixed and maintained. Yet too many couples just break up when something goes wrong. A very ordinary love story yet every couple could learn something from it.
@@gisellette6006 I think it was suppose to mean that his interests changed. Instead of looking at the clothes she wanted to buy he was interested more in the models similarly to the other woman.
yeah, this is a stereotype that needs to die. a woman wanting an appropriate amount of love and affection doesn't make her "the annoying girlfriend". it really pisses me off when the 'needy one' is shoved aside for being human. 😤

@@B0BBYJ4CK It isn't a stereotype or a trope. There are women like that, and and it isn't something that needs to stop being talked about. It sounds like you're projecting how you treat people.
I love how when the "snake" chased him down to the restroom was a venomous snake targeting its prey but when the guy opens the door for a split second, it shows the girl in a completely concerned state and is not a "snake" anymore. For me it felt like, her anger and annoyance from the guy neglecting her made him envision her as a snake and as the "snake" chased him to the restroom was just her trying to approach and is worried for the guy.
Also I’d like to add how when you rewatch the video and are given the context that we’re viewing the scene through the guys eyes, it’s made blatantly obvious by the camera zoom into to the first girl’s butt and the dress girl’s chest where the guy’s head was at 😑 He was eyeing those girls uppp and dowwwn and genuinely thought his girlfriend was the one in the wrong lol
@@soutman2913 i noticed that too! He was completely ignoring his girlfriend to eyeball that entire group for way too long. No wonder she was upset, she has to constantly make him aware of her existence even across a table from him
This was actually very heartbreaking. It proved when the hamster turned into a phone showed how he was ignoring the girl in the first place. Beautiful animation.
It's cool to think that for most of the short we're so heavily on the boyfriend's side because of the animal abuse his girlfriend exhibits and how she's shown as such a monster, but once we see it's just a phone we can sympathize with the girl so much more.
3:15 Watching this scene again, knowing that the hamster it’s actually the phone, It makes sense that it’s seen from the perspective of the hamster. Because all those places are probably photos from that girl’s Instagram or something. And the guy it’s stalking her and he’s imagining having a relationship with her.
The thought of watching this as a young kid not understanding that the hamster is his phone and the girlfriend is trying to get his attention from his phone…I feel as if the boy should’ve been I better boyfriend honestly…
I love the metaphor of the ‘Guinea pig’ eating the flowers It really symbolizes how neglecting your partner for your phone destroys a relationship, tearing it apart and sucking it up like the hamster eats all of the flowers, erasing the beauty and happiness
I feel like the flowers appearing represent their relationship growing and love for each other in the photos/memories. When the boyfriend was on his phone he was reminiscing their good times and kinda daydreaming about it but when the guinnuie pig ate the flowers it shows that his phone was destroying their relationship. I guess he thought he wasn’t doing anything wrong because the whole time he was thinking about the good times in the past with his girlfriend but what matters is what’s in the moment with the people you love. That’s why they had such good memories before. Because they were in the moment with each other.
This is one of my favorite short films, I find it very interesting that at first we think that the girlfriend is wrong, but in fact the wrong person in the story is the boyfriend, I really like the animation style and the characters, the story is very interesting !
Having had both a pet guinea pig and a toxic relationship I was so concerned at first. You can't imagine the amount of horror I went through watching those scenes where the girl abused the pet. I WAS SO RELIEFED IT WAS JUST A PHONE. Loved the twist. Really nice.
Mistreating an animal hurts deep down in my soul, but I think in this animation it was the feeling of sadness, anger, and feeling like it doesn't exist or something like that, which is something that hurts, like a brother that mom loves and you just watch and see things passing in front of you like emptiness. Or when you see that person surrounded by friends, while you are the stranger with social phobia and loner.
Po: I still see tai lung in my room won't give back the phone that I gave you if gashadokuro says I gotta eat you but I can't replace you then I must escape you whoa if you just said I'm done you go tell jack again listen to kung fu but never takes mine won't let you play my figures until you break another one I won't let you upset me
This film is all about perspective. We assumed she was a controlling, manipulative, materialistic woman obssesed with herself. But as soon as you change the Guinea pig into a phone, the entire message changes. Suddenly, we realize that she's actually a victim of a man who is potentially disloyal, based on his wondering eyes and daydreaming. Tt's really quite interesting and very well made.
I like that it shows both sides of the story. In the beginning, you would assume it is an abusive relationship with her demanding all of his attention and affection. But as the metaphor is lifted it becomes a story of neglect after he has his hamster broken. I really enjoy this Tomoki Misato's works because of the clever use of metaphors.
@@prettyy.sofiaa well, without all the metaphors and stuff, it was just a phone,,, so i guess it really doesn't matter if someone called it a hamster or not
The sad thing is that the girlfriend was JUST LIKE the girls he kept staring at, beautiful and cheery and keeping up conversation! She seemed fun to be with! But basically the instant she got upset at him literally neglecting her, the boyfriend immediately started viewing her as an uncontrollable snake monster and started chasing another girl in his mind's eye. Forget the *phone metaphor,* _this is just how women are treated in general._ That brown haired lady woulda "become a snake monster" too had she stayed with him like he dreamt about. Bc he blames the women for his failing relationships like a true narcissist... And it's EXTREMELY rare for a narcissist to come out the other side like boyfriend ultimately does. *Edit:* Bc some of yall have egos more brittle than the stale vanilla wafers I ate this morning and the reading comprehension of a 1yo, the point of my comment isn't "all men are narcissistic women-hating pigs lol", it's "many women are perceived as 'snake monsters' once their legitimate emotions become weaponized against them". I threw in the narcissist line bc this is *exactly* what *all* narcissists do in relationships regardless of gender, blame the failings on anyone but themselves. My mom displays narcissistic traits towards me, it's just a Thing. The boyfriend is on a path to blame all the women in his life for his failings because he *just so happens to be a man* and (seemingly) *straight.* Blame the writer and not me for that if you're somehow offended, *I* didn't choose these kids' presenting genders. TLDR? _Calm the hell down._ lmao *Edit 2:* _You kids still ain't calmed down??_ What _is it_ that people like to tell women, uhhhh... Stop getting so easily offended? It's just a joke? Triggered lol? Are none of those working? Awww... I'm sorry :(
This short is about neglectful partners who can't see their wrong doings, it could be the other way around or also happen in a gay couple, it's not necessarily about male narcisists and their relationships with women. Did you make all these assumptions just because the protagonist is a man?
@@jormungandrouroboros4571 Yes, narcissists can be any gender. But my main point wasn't "lol narcissist man", my point is that the girlfriend did indeed have all the proper qualities, but ultimately her legitimate upset was unfairly weaponized against her. And my point would still stand in any relationship as long as the 'snake monster' was a woman or otherwise femme presenting. I know this phenomenon to be true from years of 'SJW' compilations, people telling me to "stop being offended" when I offer counterpoints without even feeling remotely angry, or assuming that I'm on my period (again, just for standing up for myself), the phenomenon of "female hysteria" that was commonplace until not that long ago and fuels medical sexism today, the angry, firery black/Latina women stereotypes that are persistent in media and make it even *harder* for woc to stand up for themselves without being seen as "too angry", and people like you, who take my legitimate point and turn it into "She's speaking about a bad thing that happens to women! That means she's talking shit about men!!" Which, ironically, *has* made me tired of men after decades of having to explain myself over and over again just to get some basic fckin bodily autonomy against men who never listen to me anyway, make my points for women all about themselves to protect their fragile egos, and in doing so narrow down all my legitimate points to "man hater SJW" and don't even take me seriously by offering a proper counteraegument. Many *have* seen me as a sort of 'snake monster' for this. All this, and much more, is how I know.
@@donelkingii3738 Why on earth would you choose to keep going out with a girl and not break up if you don't even like her? Also, I hate to be the one to tell you this, but since you seem to dehumanize women based on their level of attractiveness.... men don't even bother grooming themselves to the extent that women do... and it REALLY shows.
@@victoriapulcifer6218 See, this is exactly why people like you (not necessarily women, could be anyone) aren't taken seriously, and I mean from people, not from men alone: you talk out of being hurt, taking general stuff on a very personal level, your talk is totally emotionally driven, and people have an hard time giving credibility to someone who throws a temper tantrum, especially when they speak with an arrogant attitude and make absolute claims about things. You know who else does this? The incels, the hardcore anti-sjws and so on. To my view, you and them are two sides of the same coin; one difference is that they're more motivated by anger/frustration, instead for your group it's more paranoia, you think everyone is out to get you, but let me tell you, normal men don't care about oppressing/silencing women, they wouldn't get anything out of it, they only want to be acknowledged, understood and not be invalidated just because of their gender, exactly the same as women, we're not that different. I believe there are positive and negative characteristics from both masculinity and femininity: one positive concept of masculinity is not to let your emotions control you and affect your rational reasonment. This doesn't mean you can't be emotionally invested in something, but that's a lot different than feeling righteous and entitled to give pissed of, accusing talks. Now this concept could be integrated with the feminine one of being in touch with your emotional inner self, you see where I'm hinting at? Everyone should learn from only the positive things of each gender. I don't get why you went over that rant filled with political rhetoric, probably to show yourself as morally conscious and of course to invoke the victim status that would justify your attitude and supposedly make you the righteous one in this discussion, in virtue of being the offended party. You mention a lot your legitimate points being dismissed or invalidated: I don't know your life experiences so I can't say anything there, but I have the impression you take simple criticism or confrontation like a maliciously intended attempt to bring you down, which could be the case, but to think it's always like that is kind of paranoid. Again, most people don't have an interest in harming or subdueing you personally, some people just like to talk and discuss things civilly, like me for example. So according to you men (I assume a great number of) have dismissed your arguments for decades, saw you as too eager and angry in your talks, and assumed you were just hating on men: please don't mind my silly question but... have you ever wondered why? Have you ever thought that maybe their reactions weren't due to your points of argument, but rather the way you expressed yourself? I can only speak for myself, but by your first comment alone I could already sense the condescending and accusing tone towards men masked as speaking for women. By the way, I'm not the one egocentrically making this about men, you're the one doing that, but it's only logical I'd say, because if you speak about women socially that's inherently in opposition to men, otherwise you would be talking about people in general. I love when you people use the "lol such fragile ego" mocking, when you're literally the ones getting offended at the slightest things. Also it's ironic you accused me of thinking "She's speaking about a bad thing that happens to women! That means she's talking shit about men!!" when that's literally what you did in your first comment, talking shit about the boyfriend by making all sorts of demonizing assumptions, and then going on about how he represents the narcisistic male who pushes the guilt onto women. Like, ok, it could be an interpretation of this short, but a very far fetched one in my opinion, cause with all probability its point wasn't to protray narcisistic men; you're the one twisting it to fit your narrative of women victimization. Now, before you pull the sexism card and try claim that victimhood advantage, even though it's up to you to believe me or not, I can assure you I wrote this comment thinking of you as a person, before than as a woman. I would probably have argued the same points in the same way with anyone else, because I believe in treating everyone equally, thus I don't see the point of reserving a special treatment to women in discussions, I don't talk to them differently than as I would with men.
She just wanted him to get off his phone. She wasn’t actually a rude snake. The Guinea pig biting her finger made me think it was her finding out what he does on his phone. And it eating the flower was the phone wiping away their love and memories. Him petting the Guinea pig resembled swiping on a dating app or social media. The flowers resembled love and the necklace resembles true love. Edit: Where tf did I get 200likes from Edit 2: Yay 990 likes Edit 3: (:

This is such a fun subversion of your initial expectations, the girl is initially framed as superficial and mean on such a stereotypical way and then it gets revealed that the her cruel attitude towards the hamster was actually towards the boyfriend's cell phone, and since the story was locked into his perspective he sees it as something that deserves his attention and care causing him to ignore her completely. It's such an original view on two characters like that, when it feels like most works would side completely with the guy making the girl seem like a horrible petty snake.
He's looking at the other girls is completely disrespectful and the fact he has to see his own girlfriend as a monster in his own vision is mad, but fr though nice animation❤
and the fact the guinea pig ate the flower just means the phone is talking the happy memories of you and your loved one away. this animation is phenomenal
I used to watch this as a child, and for some reason the girl scared the sh out of me cause I thought she was a "villain".. but rewatching this now that im older, i finally understand why she's like that... it almost made me cry 😭😭
This really blew my mind, and I love how it tricked me in the beginning lol. Making me think the girlfriend is super needy, clingy, wanting everything to be about her, but it she wasn’t like that. The whole situation wasn’t what I thought it was. Hell, just realizing the guinea pig was the guy’s phone the whole time is mind blowing. He kept petting it with one finger cuz he’s swiping through it, the guy put it away in his lap after the girl kept gesturing to her to focus more on her, and the girl getting her finger bit by the guinea pig is her slicing her finger on the crack on his phone. The details (On top of everything else)… So good ✨
How can a crack on the phone slice your finger and how can the phone work if the crack was like that lol I think the crack appeared after she threw it But idk how it hurted her finger so yours is the best answer for me. And I really love your theory 👍❤️
@@Alina-i3m2j I cracked my phone screen before and it worked fine. My finger still got stuck on the cracked glass several times before I decided to get a new one because I knew I would cut myself. Definitely possible.
Everyone else is commenting about the symbolic meaning of the whole story and I'm just out here like "I'm so glad nothing violent happened to the guinea pig lol" Also the fact that this is made by stop motion plus wool felt? I can't imagine the amount of work that must've gone into this holy shit, no wonder this guy made the molcar series possible
I nearly cried when I watched it the first time. The thought of someone treating a poor little animal like that is really upsetting. (One of my guinea pigs had died recently when I first watched it too, so that probably didn’t help.)

Me: dude it's not what you think! She attacked me cronus, she's a monster!
So what I’m getting from this film is that we are viewing from the guy’s perspective, and that the rabbit represents his phone. He feels so attached to the phone that his mind starts to villianize anyone that tries to take the rabbit away from him.
But I guess we can also assume that he has a trauma, perhaps from childhood, when someone broke the "guinea pig" at 0:51. So, you can also understand his concern.
No, you get it wrong, the story is not about the phone but rather their relationship, you can see their relationship is dying only to be revived at the end of the video.
- I really dislike the trope where girlfriends are evil for asserting their basic needs so this twist was a nice surprise. - value your relationships! 🙂
My intake on this (im sure others too) : The girl was upset and mad over (assuming) other girls which is what her boyfriend had thought. Once later revealed that the guinea pig was not a pet and instead his phone. He was not willing to put the phone down. Once the girl receives her food notice how he didn’t have any? He was so glued to it he didn’t order nor speak to his girlfriend. Because he was so stuck into his phone he assumed she was mad because of other girls and started to picture him with other girls. She was portrayed as an evil girlfriend but she wanted simple affection and respect. She asked for his phone which he did not give. she was really upset when the guinea pig bit her. He only cared for the phone. Once calming down he noticed she was the one he loved not the phone. This is a way of saying that you should pay attention to your significant other.
Her picking up the hamster is definitely a metaphor for her giving him her phone number. And when the hamster bit the girlfriend it was her seeing that in his phone
@@Agentonefromhelluvaboss the hamster isn’t a real hamster, it’s his phone. he thinks she’s being controlling by trying to divert his attention from it to spend time together. so we view from his unreliable perspective that she is cruel and beastly. he’s annoyed or put off by this so he begins looking at a different girl and fantasizing about dating her. in his daydream with another girl, flowers are shown to bloom when they’re happy and spending time together. he gives her a flower necklace and takes lots of loving photos. but the flowers begin to disappear as his phone takes away from their healthy relationship (the hamster eats them) it reflects that this is what has happened to his current girlfriend, as she wears the necklace he dreamt about giving to another. it’s to show true affection. we also see in his phone, that the pictures he dreamt of another taking with another girl are actually real and pictures of his girlfriend. just to show a parallel between what happened, and his desire to replace her. he feels bad in the end reminiscing and comforts her, lost in their emotions they forget they’re in public.
After having dated someone who was always on their phone, ignored me anytime I tried to speak and began hiding their phone too, this film speaks volumes. On the anger it causes, being told you’re “overreacting” when you simply wanted your partner to listen.

I really dislike the trope where girlfriends are evil for asserting their basic needs so this twist was a nice surprise. value your relationships! :)
yeah, this is a stereotype that needs to die. a woman wanting an appropriate amount of love and affection doesn't make her "the annoying girlfriend". it really pisses me off when the 'needy one' is shoved aside for being human. 😤
@@B0BBYJ4CK yeah but there's a reason it's a trope tell that to my ex who left me 1356 voice messages bc I didnt call her one morning bc I worked early. And that's an exact number.
@@DONKEYKONG260 well, of course, there's a reason it exists. stereotypes come from human behavior. good and bad.
and as I've stated, wanting an *appropriate* amount of attention is fine. from what you tellin' me, your ex doesn't seem like the reasonable type. hopefully, this doesn't skew your image on relationships. 🍀

I just thought of that :0
Also I’d like to add how when you rewatch the video and are given the context that we’re viewing the scene through the guys eyes, it’s made blatantly obvious by the camera zoom into to the first girl’s butt and the dress girl’s chest where the guy’s head was at 😑
He was eyeing those girls uppp and dowwwn and genuinely thought his girlfriend was the one in the wrong lol
I wouldn’t say it’s worry, I’d say it’s more like a “Why..what did I do?” Face. A sad, realization face.

I guess he thought he wasn’t doing anything wrong because the whole time he was thinking about the good times in the past with his girlfriend but what matters is what’s in the moment with the people you love.
This is incredibly well made and beautiful! So unusual with everything made of fabric and felt. Excellent job well done!

I'VE BEEN SEARCHING FOR THIS CHANNEL FOR A FEW MINUTES AND FINALLY FOUND IT!! I LOVED WATCHING THESE TYPE OF VIDEOS OMG!!❤
TLDR? _Calm the hell down._ lmao
*Edit 2:* _You kids still ain't calmed down??_ What _is it_ that people like to tell women, uhhhh... Stop getting so easily offended? It's just a joke? Triggered lol? Are none of those working? Awww... I'm sorry :(
But not as pretty. What did she expect?
Hi there!

モルモットとして描かれていたのが実はスマートフォンで彼氏がスマートフォンを優先して彼女を大切にしなかったことがとても綺麗に描かれていて素晴らしかった
The guinea pig was going to be a cat that was shown on the concept art for this stop motion short
I know that it turned into a phone
Her picking up the hamster is definitely a metaphor for her giving him her phone number. And when the hamster bit the girlfriend it was her seeing that in his phone
I don't get the video pls explain
Girlfriend eyes: please stop using your phone.

@@khmerleftysbassplayer7278 Sadly, that's how the real toxic person in the relationship views the other.

No entiendo el chino
After having dated someone who was always on their phone, ignored me anytime I tried to speak and began hiding their phone too, this film speaks volumes. On the anger it causes, being told you’re “overreacting” when you simply wanted your partner to listen.
