    One of the things I loved the most about this episode, seeing Buffy pre-slayer. Like you pointed out, she was so much like Cordelia...lol.

    • @jaernihiltheus7817
      @jaernihiltheus7817 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yeah, this show has a lot of symbolism when it relates to Buffy as a character. Giles represents her mind, Willow represents her heart, Xander represents her strength/spirit, etc.
      Cordelia is meant to represent the question "What if Buffy never became the Slayer?", whereas I believe Kendra is meant to represent the question "What if Buffy was by-the-book? No friends, no social life, no school. Just slaying under her Watcher's thumb.".

    • @leilanyx
      @leilanyx 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      most people i've seen talk about the representation, have said that willow represents her spirit, and xander represents her heart. but each to their own i suppose. xander always seems to act out of his emotions - whether through anger or sadness, he never seems to consider the logical side of things. sort of like how the heart tends to be represented in literature. willow is the best friend, the support, the shoulder to cry on when things get bad. she's the first to try and understand buffy's struggles in season 3 when everyone else seemed to be against her and not wanting to talk about it. it seems like the sort of thing her metaphorical spirit would do. idk, each to their own i suppose.

    I think it makes sense that Dru has mind control powers. She already was a seer, but as a vampire she's a direct descendant of the Master, so I think that particular power comes from him.
    This video was really worth the waiting, but now I can't wait for the next one! Thank you so much!!

      @ahsokarules2369 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I hated Xander from the beginning. He was a pig. He had no growth when it came to Angel, and the only reason he hated him was because of his jealousy. He got mildly better as the show progressed, but I never liked him the way I did Cordelia. By season 7 I stopped disliking him. Had he owned up and admitted that the way he acted he was wrong, then I would've liked him. But the fact is, he is never called out on lying to Buffy about Willow about to reensoul Angel and that always dangled on me not liking him. They say he's the heart and soul of the Scooby Gang, but he wasn't.

    Cant wait for the next one! Great reaction as always. I forgot there were flash back scenes in this episode so that was a nice treat lol! I always get mad though because the Darla in flashback is so much more regal and in control; so much more “Darla” than the terrible Darla we got in season 1 lol. Any flashback with her, she’s so much “more” than what we got to see in her stupid outfit, with her weird voice and her slavery m-act to the master. Grrrr-arrgh!!
    But otherwise... ahh... this next episode is just, wow. And into S3!! One of my fav seasons of them all. Eeek! Cant wait!!

    You just got into the buffy fandom. Questioning Angel's accent is a rite of passage all buffy fans must go through. This episode was definitely good and you should know there's a Buffy movie that came out before the show. It's almost nothing like the show but that flashback of Buffy in her other school kinda shows what Buffy is like in the movie. Should also note it's a completely different actress playing Buffy.
    Xander needs to be defended. Everyone wants to save Angel but Xander understands even if Angel is good, the potential to go bad will always be there and put them all at risk. Xander is the only logical one on the team

    • @jadeyorke2397
      @jadeyorke2397 6 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      I agree about the Xander part but even tho I love Xander I do have to say that I think his reasoning for wanting Angel/Angelus dead is more to do with him being petty than logical. Xander thinks with his emotions (eg. Selfless) and I don't think this episode was an exeption. Still love him tho.

    • @NikkieTwix
      @NikkieTwix 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I agree Buffy put her ex boyfriend before the lives of innocent people, Xander had to say the truth and people can’t handle that.

    • @LilyGinnyBlack35
      @LilyGinnyBlack35 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I also agree about the Xander bit. Let's also not forget that Xander has a lot of issues with vampires in general because of what happened with Jesse. Him having to kill Jesse left an impact on him and how he has viewed vampires throughout the rest of the series. Though I do think that his intentions weren't that great (they were likely partially stemming from his jealousy and hatred of Angel), I do think that his point is a logical and truthful one. And sometimes the truth (and logic) hurts.
      Buffy's response was a purely emotional one, which is totally understandable given not only her age but just the circumstances in general, but that is also very dangerous given her calling and the type of choices she has to make. I think that both options (cursing and re-ensouling him or just straight up killing him) are valid options, one is just more emotional ("me" driven) and the other more logical ("greater good" driven) for Buffy anyway (for Xander the "kill him" option is much more emotionally and "me" driven).

    • @jadeyorke2397
      @jadeyorke2397 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Jessica Canavan I agree with Xander in this situation but I just don’t think, like you said, his intention is to be the logical one. He hates Angel and wants him dead. And I agree about the Jesse thing, wish that was brought up more in the show.

    • @LilyGinnyBlack35
      @LilyGinnyBlack35 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh, yes. I agree. Like I said, his intentions weren't logical, they were emotionally based, but his point was logical in and of itself. I also think that Xander went about expressing that point the wrong way, but that stemmed from his emotional connection to the point he was making. About the Jesse thing, it does get brought up....just elsewhere...and that's all I'll say on that because spoilers and whatnot.

    See, I tend to agree more with Xander on this issue. Oh, and you found dirty, old hobo Angel crushing on a 14-15 year-old girl cute? I found it disgusting and horrifying. I mean, even ignoring the 200 years he wasn't there, he's still a 26-year-old man. Not cool, at all.
    Don't get me wrong, I like Angel as a character, but his whole obsession with Buffy grosses me out.

    • @bellestar6930
      @bellestar6930 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I don't agree with Xander in this episode, but everything else you said, totally on the nail. Angel 'falling for' 15 year old school girl Buffy while she's sucking a lollipop? Gross. And very stalkery - why wait until a year later in Sunnydale to reveal himself to supposedly help out with the fight against evil? SPOILER >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>He never tells Buffy that he was spying on her and lusting after her when she was only 15. Grrr.

      Buffy was 15 in the 1996 flashback and your right about Angel. He has the body and maturity of a 26 year old becuse Vampires are stuck.in the age they where turned at but Angel. Has two hundred and forty two years on Buffy so he has the body of a 26 year old but is 243 years old or 242 becuse the flashback takes place in 1996 even Ford Buffy childhood friend in Lie to me pointed out Angel looks older than Buffy. And I agree with Xander

      Belle Star you’re using today’s morality to judge the past. It wasn’t uncommon at the time and more so the farther you go back. There are laws in each state that give minors as young as 12 in some states the right to marry with a parents permission. And I can assure you it’s not on the books for two twelve year olds to marry.
      In Angels cares it was very common in his time for older men to marry very young girls. A 15 year old would be a women in his time and they would marry much older men. So it wouldn’t be out of character for him at all.

      Dario Fidanza mate I’m a man, and if a 25 yr old had been perving on me when I was 15 it’d have been exactly as wrong as the other way around. Please don’t try and pigeonhole me and please don’t try and have sex with minors.
      Anyways I’ve kinda changed my mind on this. he’s a centuries old demonic creature so normal dating rules probs don’t quite apply, and he’s clearly only there to provide a fantasy for the teenage (and older) girl demographic. Sarah Michelle geller is so clearly not 16 that it doesn’t feel /that/ creepy.

      If Buffy had done something earlier Xander wouldn't have his arm broken, Willow wouldn't have gotten hurt, Giles wouldn't have been taken and Kendra would still be alive. So Xander was the only one speaking sense.

    • @Buffy8Fan
      @Buffy8Fan 6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      No Diggity, What does that have to do with Xander looking point-blank at Giles and referring to Jenny by saying, "Yeah well she's dead?" That is the only part of the argument I hate because Xander cannot and did not ever apologize to Giles, or anyone else for anything else he ever did for that matter.
      As for Buffy doing something earlier to make sure her friends were not hurt. The earliest anyone could have done anything smart on the offensive front would have been 'Bewitched Bothered and Bewildered' as that is when Giles and Buffy start studying Angelus. And in that case as well as every episode except 'Passion' their hands were full with other Hellmouth problems. One episode later the Warehouse burned and Buffy doesn't learn where they go until 2x22 which is after this episode.
      The narrow window of "doing something" would have gotten them all killed as Drusilla saw the future of Angelus' nearly restored soul in that episode. Whose to say everyone wouldn't have ended up dead by 'Passion' long before a hospital trip over events in this episode.

      Xander got better eventually. You hated him forever based on this?

    • @Buffy8Fan
      @Buffy8Fan 6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      thanatos3378, Actually no he didn't get better eventually. This is just what started my hatred. It continued due to numerous other things.
      SPOILERS FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVEN'T SEEN BEYOND 'BECOMING PART 1'
      The next episode with the Willow blame continued it. (See the next one if you don't understand).
      The anger at Buffy in season 3 despite the fact that a lot of her decisions happened because of Xander's "Willow said kick his ass" quote made it worse.
      Anger issues. Enough said.
      Name-calling after people tell him not to.
      Encouraging Buffy to stay with Riley as if Buffy was ENTIRELY in the wrong also didn't help.
      Cheating and saying he did nothing wrong.
      Being hypocritical about relationships.
      Telling Buffy he trusts her at the end of 'Revelation' when everything he did in that episode and all events in the episode could have been avoided if he did trust her.
      Leaving Anya at the alter only to run to his friends afterwards for an ego boost made me furious. He was the one who should have stood in front of the guests and said there wasn't a wedding. Not the stood up bride.
      Season seven I thought he was doing better, then he helped kicked Buffy out of the house shortly after giving a speech about how great she was only to tell her when she was back about thinking he should be by her side.
      Telling Buffy and Willow he doesn't remember his time as a hyena just to avoid an apology he didn't even have to say to begin with or avoid embarrassment. Either way he lied for no reason. But that one was season one and still more annoying, than hating.
      SPOILERS FOR COMICS
      Siding with bad guys against Buffy claiming it would save Dawn's life only causing more problems.
      Not telling the gang he is seeing Anya's dead spirit and thus letting said spirit that isn't really Anya gain an evil foothold on the mortal plain.
      I'm sure everyone can come up with their own lists for every character they dislike or hate ect., but this is my off the top of my head list for a character I loathe. When a thought in your head at all times towards Xander is that Anya as a vengeance Demon deserves better, you know something is amiss in your feelings towards him.

    • @frakkintoasterluvva7920
      @frakkintoasterluvva7920 6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      No Diggity How was he supposedly making sense? His argument is just dumb. Even on purely pragmatic level, obviously resouling Angel would be a huge win for the Scoobies - they take out a big threat without even having to fight him (and it's not like Buffy is guaranteed to be able to kill him otherwise), and gain a potential ally. But Xander is so consumed by hatred for Angel that he's more upset by the idea of Angel potentially not being killed in the end than, you know, him continuing to do evil things and kill more people.
      And then he dares to bring up Jenny's death - as if he is the one that cares about her so much - to Giles, of all people. That was just gross.
      Xander was a dick in this scene.

      I don't think anyone was 'wrong' in that argument and Angel himself might've agreed with Xander given that he knows full well what Angelus is capable of. Buffy, Willow, and Giles also have a point as souled Angel is a tremendous force for good and a friend and ally.

    3:00 the fact that’s the floppy disc Jenny was working is clear is something people have been waiting since passions to be resolved.
    You got so exited at your lightbulb moment you spoke over the diaglogue of the scene.
    Did you even notice after buffy picks up her pencil and says “deja vu”. She can sense there is something down there. Then the tension as buffy figures out what it isn’t right away, we see realisation hit willow last and harder………
    But no instead you wanted to point out you remembered a obscure, “blink andmiss it” very hidden Easter eggs that left us on a cliffhanger of whether angel would ever get his restorative ritual.
    Genuine question do you act this way watching movies or tv with your friends/family aswell…. Or do you dial up the enthusiasm for the sake of us? because if it comes across insincere even a little, buff and angel fans would feel a touch insulted and pandered too.
    Please for the sake of your videos before your decide to say anything more, ask yourself if you’re comment is really needed here. Will people more prefer to hear your comment over the actual movie or tv dialogue. Are the insights and ideas I’ve got, worth talking over a climax which you’ll be by definition not fully listening to it taking in because you busy taking your victory lap for remember what the floppy disc was for even though it was revealed less than 5 mins later

      @jimmy2k4o dude what is your childhood trauma?
      She's reacting to the video. Let her react. That's the whole freaking point of a reaction video, the watcher's reaction, not the reactor staying silent so the viewer is able to catch every bit of dialogue in a show they've presumably seen before.
      Grow up.
      She was excited about the floppy disc. It's her first time watching and SHE DOESN'T KNOW that it'll be explained in 5 minutes. Geez.
      Everyone misses things their first watch through. Deal with it. Go somewhere else if you don't like it.
