      Can you please email me the plans? I can not get the file to download. This is what I have been looking for. Built a deck and ramp last year but it is too far off the ground for me...thank you

    Totally cool. Great for a sled that doesn't have reverse too. Thinking meat was used here.

    Great job Scott. Thanks for your drawing. I am about half way done mine. Looks like lots of snow at your place. None here is Toronto.

    You got your wheels from greyhub?! My family owns that company!

    Any issues with it freezing up or large amounts of snow Jamming it and making it more difficult to use?

    • @8spc1
      @8spc1  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jaycrash25 not really. You need to make sure your bed is clear if snow so the wheel slide.
      I did have caster wheel issues late last season where the cast iron lip broke off after 4 years. I’m thinking of replacing them with rubber wheels.

    Hey man really nice job! I watched the video on the other one and it looks like he has a bar that goes across the bottom and that stops the side to side rocking that you had in your design. Did you get a design from him? It doesn't look like he responsds much but you do. Thanks!!!

    • @8spc1
      @8spc1  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I thought about it but it was overkill. The hitch is more than strong enough to handle the bit of rocking. It does rock a bit through corners but it's not excessive. I tie strap it down for long trips for added stability.
      Yes I was inspired by the other video. I used it as the basis of my design.

    • @8spc1
      @8spc1  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I reversed engineered his design from the video and made my own design changes

    I attempted to download your plans and it worked but unfortunately I cant open the file because my computers graphic card does not support the sketch up viewer. Is there a dumbed down version you can share or maybe a detailed build sheet with a material list? Or some screen grabs of the plans?

    A full sized truck with a 8' bed. Aluminum ramp. Drive on , reverse off.
    Simple, inexpensive

    LOL... I just realized your name is also Scott... I used the flat strap down the sides of the deck to reduce the trip hazard and increase the stiffness of the deck edge, it is a 3”x1/8” flat bar and takes far less fitting to install. The guy I built the deck for wanted a low profile. Also if you unfold that 1”x1” you welded on yours you would find it weighs pretty close to the same but not as stiff. Not sure where you came up with 26 pounds lighter, a 1”x1”x1/8” unfolded is 4”x1/8” and you used far more lineal feet of that square tube than the strap I used... “Looks better” I guess works, if you like all the extra fitting and grinding work. The cross frames are 1”x1”x1/8” and spaced the same as the teeth on the snowmobile track. I did not use 1”x 2” because snowmobiles are not that heavy.
    The crown wheels were from a half ton I Beam trolley we bought local for about 45 bucks. So that was four crown wheels mounted to shafts with safety fingers for a bit over 10 bucks each. The link is an example of what I used.
    www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_18557_18557
    I cut the trolley frame into four pieces and welded them to the tilt frame so that in the event of a wheel failure the tabs would keep the frame from coming apart. The guy I built the deck for wanted cheep, light and built in one day.
    Scott

      The 26 lbs was from my original design - I had planned on 6" flat strap plus I used thinner gauge then 1/8" - 22 gauge for my square tubing on everything.
      I agree on using 1x1 instead of 2x1 - I wasn't sure about the strength at first and I wanted something longer for my long paddles to grab on to. If I were to do it again I would just use 1x1.

    • @Cyruscosmo
      @Cyruscosmo 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      he had long paddles as well that is why I made the main frame rails wide so the treads would not be damaged. We spaced the cross pieces to match the tread. His sled would climb that frame like a ladder.
      That makes sense. your tubing would be lighter than the 1/8th I used. I suggested raised rails down the sides for tie down points and so forth but he wanted the deck to be as light as possible so he could move it himself. I used the flat bar to give the outter edge more stiffness and keep it low profile. I originally wanted to use aluminium but he about choked on the price of the stuff.

    How about aluminum

    • @8spc1
      @8spc1  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's my next project. While the deck works good (my caster wheels finally broke and I had to weld it together as a stop gap) it would be nice to half the weight with a lighter material and less beefy design.

    Best check each state law reguarding a "load" extending beyound the normal length of the vehicle. My state this is illegal without a light for night travel or flag, even though the load is large enough to be easily seen.

      Good point. I use DOT reflective tape on the back end and is less than 48" from the bumper. Where I live I'm legit.
      I had considered some small led brake lights but at the end I didn't need them.
