    Another great vid, Alex. Also some good advice given. Keep the faith, pal.
    My dad and all my uncles were trawlermen in Hull and i used to stand right where you were fishing to watch my dad sail away and arrive back 3 weeks later.
    God bless all the men who lost their lives in a very dangerous industry.
    Cheers, Alex and all the best.

    I started fishing at the age of 6, my dad took me and my brother out most days to put food on the table, nowadays i return most of what i catch, i've not had whiting for years, my mum certainly knew how cook whatever we caught, great memories, getting woke up in the early hours of a winters night to head out into the middle of morecambe bay in the freezing weather, fishing into the sunrise, brilliant

      I went all over with my dad. Getting woken up at 4am, climbing in to a cold truck, with no idea where we were going. Great memories. I haven't taken much for the table this summer. But winter species make better eating 😉

    Brilliant video. Very noticeable how the videos have improved and even more so you're fishing. Loved the cooking, plain and simple. My type of food. One point I'd recommend. .is your filleting. Never fillet towards you hand. A recipe for disaster. I know from experience. 😊

Do your mash potatoes, boil your fish, and the secret ingredient is Paxo sage and onion stuffing use the water from the boiled fish to soak the stuffing then simply mix fish, mash and stuffing together season with salt and pepper and make into fishcake shapes breadcrumb and jobs a good un.

      Over 37 is a good size whiting. I've only ever had a couple go over 40.

    Click bait, tut, tut Alex, with that bend I thought you were dragging in an old tv or a shopping trolley lol. As always loved the video but the last time I saw that much weed I was at a Stone Roses concert. You really must be in the good books with your Mrs as I'm finding it hard to keep up with all the videos you are putting out these days. Whiting is a very nice sweet meat but like you said not a lot of meat on them but you did a very good job with that knife. I was hoping to see you cut one of the fish cakes open at the end and taste some. When I do any cooking it's the same in my kitchen with the cheese tax lol. My dog is now a bit of a connoisseur of fine cheeses and has moved on from mild cheddar to cathedral city these days. I hope that Jack and your Mrs are well and it's nice to see you out and about in good spirits, take care buddy and best of luck on your next session.

      I know what you mean. It's a continental rod (3 piece) and I've bought the 'power tip' for them. So I wonder if the mid section is stiffer to accommodate the softer standard tip? 🤔 it would be good to see the curve with the standard tip though

    How did you keep it mate till you got it home and do you believe in bleeding fish? I mean, commercial trawlers can't possibly bleed every fish, they just gut and put on ice don't they.

    • @theawfulangler
      @theawfulangler  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      At that time of the year, usually a carrier/bin bag and the back of the van is enough to keep catches cool enough until they make it to the fridge. I always cut the gills and gut fish that im keeping straight away. Bleeding fish like cod isn't that necessary I don't think, gutting them prevents worms from the gut making their way to the flesh.

      Yeah that's what I was planning on doing, I do a lot of camping so I've got a decent cool box.
      I'm a coarse fisherman but got the horn to do a bit of beach fishing after watching yourself and a few others on the Holderness and north Lincs coasts on here.
      I'm a Sheffielder so they would be the nearest decent locations.
      Thanks again, John.
