Welcome to my first journey by Ruhr´s suburban train!
This video was taken rather spontaneously. Because the first train of the Intercity-line Dortmund - Frankfurt via Siegen, which I took on my way back to Munich, departed not until 11 am, I had much time left on the morning. So I went to the suburban railway station "Dortmund-Körne West", where my housing was located by, and took the next train to Unna in order to record the whole suburban line S4.
The tenor of the railway is pretty unique: starting at Unna, it first takes a nearly 180° single-track turn, including another intermediate stop, into the station of Unna-Königsborn, which is a terminus of two main tracks. After changing the direction of travel, the route goes through many suburban areas of Dortmund in a two-track configuration, passing the city centre southerly, until Dortmund-Dorstfeld, where you can change to S1 and S2 lines. Shortly after the last intermediate stop, Dortmund-Somborn, the railway turns into single-track again. One moment later the train ends at an underground station with only one track: Dortmund-Lütgendortmund. Railway speed is 120 km/h most of the time, but this speed was not reached, due to the short distances between stops.

Ist die einzigste S-Bahnlinie in einer Großstadt die den Hauptbahnhof nicht ansteuert.

Och...das gibts öfter. Aber diese Linie ist schon besonders abwegig, das stimmt. Unna ist der einzige Bahnhof auf der Linie, wo man zum Regionalverkehr umsteigen kann.
