Omar Sukar I didn’t think it was a bad ending actually in my opinion it was one of the few Mangas that left me satisfied with the chosen girl even though I would have been satisfied with any of them because of how well each character is developed but to be honest I can see what you mean the last few chapters were weaker compared to the earlier ones past the second year field trip

Even Shield Hero focuses on the titled hero even though all 4 of the heroes are isekai main protags, but because they each fill a certain protag cliche and Shield gets the shaft, it subverts the trophe

@@Excalibur01 Except that whole concept is thrown out because everyone in the show is a moron, the premise is subverted right away, the protagonist never has to actually address his actions, and even the reprisal is meaningless because the other characters are still morons that haven't had any personality developed. I wanted to like that show... but it's just bad.
I like that about rosario no vampire, they set up most of the harem with others in the end. This could be ranma i he manages to play matchmaker for his financees.

Speaking of the manga, I don't think Fuutarou gonna end up with Yotsuba or Itsuki. Especially Yotsuba since they stated that they are just friends and I'm not sensing any much romantic tension between them, same with Itsuki but also the fact that both sisters know the other three like Fuutarou and just support them, while the other three it's an all out war.
Maybe I'm just thinking like a harem protagonist and don't see the tension, if anyone thinks otherwise be my guest and prove what I don't see.

Number #2 She is the 4th Daughter thus counting from the thumb to the pinky of Uesugi's left hand "Chapter 32, page 18" that makes Yotsuba the Ring finger in a chapter that focuses on Uesugi forgetting the wedding ring.
Number #3 Her Energetic personality is questioned multiple times in the manga

A historically accurate Harem that Is actually a political drama in disguise... Think of Ottoman Harems...
It's all centered around the girls and 'the Main man' is just a secondary Character who has presence that the characters and audience can simply feel even when he is not physically there.

Honestly, I think the reveal might be where the anime will shine more, ultimately, because it has the privilege of the manga being finished. So they can spend the time developing everyone better so it isn’t *that* big a surprise.
Even now, with S2 finished, the groundwork was laid very well.

But in a romance standpoint it just doesnt really make sense especially since she holds no romantic tension with the mc.

I was gonna say... It's all fun and games until bitch slaps start flying and a straight up war breaks out. I'm honestly in fucking shambles right now emotionally because I can't stand the uncertainty. This has the potential to be the harem romance story that puts me in my grave and makes me shun manga for the rest of my life, or it can become the sweetest, most wholesome, heartwarming love story I've ever see so far, but that's only if Miku wins.

RedFlag I did and I think Nino honestly came out of nowhere while Miku and Ichika have been trying super hard to be with him first. She’s trying hard and all and that’s admirable, but I feel like she’s trying way too hard I can definitely see the appeal of Nino, but my man would’ve blushed at anyone asking him out since it was his first time, just read chapter 71, and I feel like she just ruined her chances of getting with him since he would’ve said yes to go out with her at that moment and someone else will swoop in. I know it’s personal preference, I just like the quiet girl type more and Miku has my favorite design. I like to chill and vibe and I feel Miku fits that bill more than anyone else, so I relate to her more. I guess Nino can be tied for second I guess. All I know is that I dislike Itsuki.

My inherent problem with harem anime is that they inevitably end up splitting their focus among the harem instead of focusing the story on a single character. I just can't take any story that has to continually derail a developing relation between two characters because the other girls get in the way.
I don't consider Tora Dora a harem, even though there were other love interests, because the story was very clear from start to finish about the relation between Taiga and Ryuji. If it had been a harem anime we could have expected to see Taiga become a background character during Ami's stalker arc. Instead Taiga has probably the biggest role in helping Ami overcome her fear, a role that in a harem would be exclusively for the protagonist.
Well funilly enough in a lot of harems there usually is one girl that gets a lot of focus
@@mikemorro140 thats how harem animes are supposed to be. There is always a lead heroine. Without one than the series has no direction. Hate or like the main heroine, it doesnt matter, as long as there is one.
that is how you know its a good harem anime. When the side girls or main girls actually are involved in the story. It makes the protag look even more useless and has to allow plot to move everything forward with him actually having less significance. This relates to otaku culture more.
Okay, I'm probably just going to keep making this comment until you do it. Requesting you put the names of the anime you use clips of on screen somewhere while they're on screen. Some of them look interesting or are shows I've forgotten and it would make it so much easier to find them if the name was on screen rather than me just googling "that one anime with the blonde girl"

What i like about this series is that main character is very well written. Futaro has his own character arc , his own morales and problems . He is a character and equal to 5 sisters. This is something that is rare for harem
write protagonists with actual virtues that a given love interest would realistically find appealing in a partner

Not usually a fan of her character type, but after going through 4 volumes, Yotsuba's really come out as my favorite! Her attitude and work ethic, as well as her "partners in crime" dynamic with Uesugi really won me over. I also enjoy how she's on board for the tutoring from the get go. She has no reason to be in conflict with Uesugi, so she isn't! and that friendship is easily one of my favorite parts of the story!

The reasons people write off harems are because 1) its very name evokes sex slavery and 2) they tend to devalue their female characters by framing their lives around one character. Monogatari and Ouran High School Host Club respect that their characters have lives outside of the protagonist and in some cases the so-called harem members don't even really show any romantic and/or sexual attraction to the lead (in the case of those series, explicit lesbian Suruga and Honey-senpai are obvious examples).
By the way, I have Sakura Saku stuck in my head now.
@Caio Coelho You're totally right. This was always my understanding too. My first exposure to this genre was Tenchi Muyo, and when I heard people say it's a "harem" anime, I usually burst out laughing, because if you watched the show on the censored cartoon network, nothing about it crossed with that old imagery of concubines laying about a private inner courtyard of the palace. Tenchi Muyo was my favorite anime for a *looong* time, but since it petered off without much a conclusion, I just forgot about it.
Well the show runners didn't forget, and last I checked back in 2017 the showrunners were full steam ahead on track to turn TM into a *real* harem. They published short form doujins and teased images of all the protag's children with the MC. Imagining all my old favorite character's turned into concubines or "co-wives" for the MC was just gut churning. It felt like a total betrayal of what the show was to me originally. Not only that it just comes off as slimy polygamist propaganda rife with misogyny.
So what I'm trying to say is, yes, you're totally right. 90% of the time these "harem" anime are actually just romance animes with a particular framing device. However 10% of the time they surprise you with a punch to the gut that's so gross I have trouble walking it off. This is why I'm like theMoporter and I have a lot of trouble with the "harem" tag. I know its probably fine, but boy I got burned so bad with Tenchi Muyo. RIP my old favorite anime.

Like not only is it a live action Harem anime, its literally the equivalent of a over the top harem with these types of twists.
edit: I just looked it up and its Somethings up with Miriam and like apparently they all sued the show and even the shows winner stated that he couldnt trust Miriam anymore and he doesnt even respect her. Its honestly kinda depressing but they do have a right to be mad since they kept this from the main contestants.

Honestly my biggest problem with harems is this stupid little god called "STATUS QUO", where there is NEVER a conclusion so everyone can imagine their pairing won in the end. A story involving five different couples is a few thousand times more likely to get a conclusion than a harem with one protagonist and five separate interests. I prefer stories being wrapped up, and I've given up on that happening with harems.

If I recall correctly, in Rosario+Vampire, Tsukune does end up with Mocha in the end. I've noticed that often when the story does go that route to pair a character with a harem member, it slowly introduces alternate potential love interests for the members of the harem. Rosario+Vampire did that, with Gin for Kurumu and Fangfang for Yukari. And some of the harem members, Ruby and Cocoa in particular, were not viable picks for Tsukune in the first place. But for an ecchi harem manga, R+V was unusually story-driven. The anime is another story.

I'll go for Miku, a girl actually liking the MC without any extra issues is always nice. Nino's development isn't enough to overcome the awful first impression. Ichika carries the same baggage that made me dislike Minori in Toradora. Yotsuba is better off as a friend, and Itsuki winning considering we're halfways done, would reek of main girl syndrome, considering she has the least romantic interactions with the guy. Even if she was Rena.

Alright Geoff, your shilling finally got me. After your recent recommendation I've already been enjoying Quintessential Quintuplets quite a lot. Upon hearing the manga is apparently even better, it FINALLY got me to use bookwalker with the promo code to take advantage of the sale and I'm already noticing jokes in volume 1 that were omitted in the anime and just an overall better quality to the story (not that the anime is bad, just the manga is better) so I am not disappointed.
I honestly never thought I'd ever use bookwalker even though I've literally heard you shill it like 45 million times, but it shows what I know. I feel like I'll probably be using it a lot more now. Thank you.

I found The Quintessential Quintuplets while browsing chunchyroll one day, saved it to watch later and never came back to it. Almost a year ago I watched this video and it pushed me to watch the anime. Your push in the that anime’s direction brought me to love this anime and its characters. I could wait to see what’s next and read through the entire manga and just finished rereading the manga while being impatient for season 2. I just read the manga and I absolutely loved it. This is one of the anime that I didn't want to end. But the ending was satisfying and ended on a good way with no ends left. Definitely one of my favorite animes and manga series.

I’ve only watched sappy romance anime’s so far and this one was a great ride and an amazing change of pace of sad/happy/frustrating romance anime’s

Recommending anime similar to Toradora is difficult, so I’ll just name a few romances that I enjoyed: Golden Time, The “Hentai” Prince and the Stony Cat, Nisekoi, and Spice and Wolf. All have some romance elements and I enjoyed them in some way or another. Bonus: if you ever want to watch a harem/ecchi, then I strongly recommend the To Love Ru series.

peiyuan zhang The brilliance of Negi makes it so that an arc-ending climax that's supposed to hint any of the girls towards being Bride Nakano is as ambiguous as possible without being a cop-out. You think Itsuki is the main girl, everyone's there in the cabin arc. You think we'd see more hints of Rena, writes her off at the most opportune arc where all the girls' exact locations are separated. You think Nino's about to call dibs, fake/real Itsuki runs up to Fuutarou. It's not entirely ambiguous like the fireworks event in BokuBen. It's just enough to tell you how any of the girls could be the end girl.
It is both scary and exciting to see a wholesome themed harem anime, I grew up during the era where heavy fanservice and ecchi harem animes ran rampant during those times.

We Never Learn! Is another fairly decent "Wholesome Harem" Anime, with a VERY similar setup to the Quintessential Quintuplets. Only difference is that it starts with 2 Geniuses who absolutely suck at the fields they actually want to go into. It's got its share of issues, but it was really enjoyable.
I’m on team Miku, I think she is tied with Itsuki with who’s the smartest, but is also the most humble and relatable to nerds being a secret Weeb. It’s also good to note how she tries her best to overcome flaws such as cooking, academics, and overall timidity towards Futaro. Speaking of which I think she and Futaro also have the best chemistry and she has a blush I would sell all my Funko pops for.

Negi Haruba is doing a wonderful job here of telling a complicated story about family, siblings, friendship and young love from the point of view of the teens (as revealed through actions, dialog and thoughts). The quints have widely ranging feelings toward all three parents, saintly but troubled Mom; materially generous but emotionally absent Step-Dad; and Bio-Dad thinking a blood connection now grants him special insight into their futures. These feelings are variable and changing through the arc of the story (best in the manga), ranging from reverence, respect, and faith to doubt, anger, and mistrust, yet all are valid. I was skeptical early on about the meaningfulness of any messaging but came to see that the story is not really about the foreshadowed marriage nor even about which sister ends up the one, so much as about what they discover together: the sisters about self-knowledge, independence and hard work, and Uesegi about loyalty, tolerance, and the deep value of supportive friends. There are warm-hearted lessons for all of us here...!

i appreciate the fact that you used footage from: the familiar of zero, the world god only knows and yamada-kun and the seven witches. i love those anime (i also enjoyed some of the shows you mentioned e.g. toradora)

@@hamishwalker9637did you watch all seasons? it's a harem with an actual story and character development. The voice acting is good and the ost is also pretty good. In the 4 seasons there were multiple moments that were done so beautifully that I actually teared up a bit.

@@hamishwalker9637 Have you seen toradora? If so, did you like it? Because Taiga (the main girl in toradora) was also abusive. I kind of get your point but you can't deny that louise and Saito love each other and would do anything possible to protect each other. It is a pretty good romance with some well executed drama moments. the comedy may not be for everyone but i really liked it. The setting was good and to me it felt like something different. It isn't just you're typical harem and i just enjoyed it. I say to each there own but in my mind the familiar of zero is easily a 8/10 anime and i would probably even rate it a 9/10
@@timothyvankassel8908 I in fact did not like vast portions of toradora. Abusive and manipulative tsunderes are really not my thing and I, personally, don't think a strong healthy relationship can be built on that sort of foundation. And as I said, the underlying power imbalance in what is not only essentially a master slave relationship, but a magic master and a mind controlled (or at least slowly mentally conditioned) slave is even worse. Not to mention that Louise is just fucking annoying as all hell. (She is literally one of the most aggravating characters in anime imo, i could almost ALMOST ignore or at least look past most of the other problems if it wasnt for how legit angry she makes me) Even the romance aside though, the plotlines felt predictable and the animation seemed lazy. Was just really not my thing.
This might be a weird thought but can anyone imagine a harem anime that isn't really like a typical harem anime? The characters portrayed like real people, relatable scenarios, and a leading protagonist who just happen to be friends with multiple girls or guys without being anything romantic or too romantic.

You know, that doesn't have anything to do with harem if the girls are not in love with him, and there's plenty of anime/manga like that.
I'm just going by my basic understanding of a harem which is just one guy or girl with half dozen people of the opposite gender. I don't know, I just like seeing something different which is why I like anime.
