    Hey guys! Hope this was helpful 😊
    Just wanna point out that there isn’t a “gold standard” profile to match into residency. Most PDs do a holistic review.
    People match w failed attempts, lower than average scores as well as very few volunteer/research experience :) so don’t be discouraged if you feel you have “red flags”.
    Focus on yourself and show them the best version of you 🤩

      It’s really great how you didn’t have a proper mentor but eventually figured out things by yourself in the end. And now you help others by sharing all the knowledge you gained and guide them without any hesitation. Really look up to you and will always wish the best for you.

    Hi Doctor, Just subscribed to your channel.. keep up the good work!
    I am a 5th year indian med student in Georgia, who has just begun the USMLE Journey. I have started studying for step1. I have a question though. when to focus on things to improve CV like teaching experience, volunteering, and clinical rotations?

    • @IshwariChandran
      @IshwariChandran  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! :)
      As far as the CV for residency is concerned, there are 3 basic parts
      - work(clinical and teaching will count as work) experience
      - volunteer experiences
      - research experience.
      Research isn't compulsory, but it's good to have. I'll make a detailed video about this soon!

    I have a few questions,
    How much did you pay for your tele rotation
    How many programs did you apply to ?
    What if you have research experience without publication, is this termed research as well ?
    Do you think you'll would have had more interviews if you were a us citizen, seeing that your scores were pretty good

    • @IshwariChandran
      @IshwariChandran  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      1. Approx $1500

      Yes, being a US citizen would increase one’s chances.

    Sorry for all the silly questions 😄
    Thank you..

    • @IshwariChandran
      @IshwariChandran  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are really good questions!
      1. You can speak about applying for the match and then ask them if they would be willing to write you a letter. Most of them would be v happy to. Make sure you ask docs whom you’ve worked closely with as that will make the letter more personalized. It’s better to ask around the 3rd week of your rotation (assuming it’s a 4-week rotation)
      2. If it’s a waived LoR, you wouldn’t know. It’s kinda like you’re trusting your LoR writer w it
      3. Sure!
      4. It’s better not to include upcoming opportunities in your CV as there’s v little you can speak about in the description (your contribution/role/what you’ve learnt)

      I haven't taken the FMGE. But if you want to practice in India till you apply for the match, then it would be wise to take the exam. I don't think an FMGE score would make a difference to PDs since they mainly look just at the USMLE scores (exam-wise) However, your clinical experience might be looked at positively!

      Hey! In year 1 (PGY1) it can range from 45-68k USD/ year depending on the state and program (pre-tax and pre-insurance deductions)
      The cost of living may vary from one person to another. I guess I’ll know once I start staying there. I’ll share it w y’all in the next few months :)

    👉Is it possible to apply for the NRMP Match with just Step1 score & Degree certif, without Step2 or OET? Heard so.. Pls tell if any1 knows!

    • @IshwariChandran
      @IshwariChandran  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most programs need you to be ECFMG certified by the time you submit your rank order list for the NRMP match. You will need OET and Step2 to be ECFMG certified

      @@IshwariChandran yes I get it, but that means we can still apply for NRMP Match with Step 1 alone right. If u dont mind could u mention those programs requiring only Step 1 from ur knowledge. Thank u in advance 🙏

      @@JOHNNIEUSA chinese isnt that hard, i studied in china in chinese medium after a scholarship, did a year of intense chinese course before that and took the national prolif language before starting my mbbs. mine is different from her school. but even if you studied in english medium like her, when you go to the hospitals your patients will be speaking chinese and worse they will be speaking the local dialects, lol, basically if you want to study in china via english medium, you will probably still have chinese classes as part of your curriculum, which can be a nice touch to your cv also for residency, but dont expect much from the clinical rotations in china. I have seen so many medical students struggle with the language when exposed to patients in china in a clinical setting. there are several from her university that have graduated and matched in the past, i think they even had usmle classes or something like that. just adjust your expectations on the clinical side, you can also schedule several eletives as student in the US and rotate during your holidays.
