@tcfthecurtisfiles Even sharing writing credit, I could easily tell which compositions were Lennon's & which McCartney's before I started learning to play in my early teens.😊
There was an interesting project that is really worth seeking out that was done a few years ago. It was called Rubber Folk and was the entire album re-made by some very good folk musicians. Some of the results are outstanding (Paul Brady's "You Won't See Me", Cara Dillon's "Wait", Martin Simpson's "I'm looking through You" etc.) This track was remade by Spiers and Boden who recognised it immediately as a murder ballad in the grand tradition of English, Irish and Scottish folk music.
I freakin love the Beatles. What an awesome sound they had, even on an old crappy recording. I "rediscovered" them a few years ago, and dug deeper. I read about their endless hours playing dives in Hamburg, Germany before they made the big time. That goes a long way towards explaining their amazing stage presence and tight sound.

@@blindowlvideos5813 I can't get enough of the Beatles .. particularly John Lennon, a rare genius who gave so, so much happiness and joy to so, so many ...
I love this song, and this whole album, and, really, have loved everything that the Beatles did, right from the start. These lyrics, though, are terrifyingly dark, violent, and misogynistic. It is my understanding that John was coming from a childhood experience that made trusting women very near to impossible, and that this song was part of his lifelong struggle to deal with that.
There are overdubs. George can't be two places at once. There is the slide-up and the electric guitar simultaneously. (john-strum; paul=bass, ringo=tambourine).
@@blindowlvideos5813 Upon closer inspection, the five-note descending guitar riff is doubled, in addition to the slide guitar and the lead guitar being recorded separately. The slide-up is actually three downstrokes (bah-dim-dim...) the last of which occurs simultaneously with the lead guitar, which is utilizing the same string, four frets lower. What we have here is "the" take that was released. The major upgrade is that John re-recorded the main vocal, and they added backing vocals.
John did not like this song, although he said it was a favorite of George. During the Playboy Interviews he noted that it was a "throwaway song," while the interview noted that the controversial lyric line was from an Elvis Presley song (Baby Let's Play House). It goes. . . "Now listen to me, baby Try to understand I'd rather see you dead, little girl Than to be with another man"
In its rawness and vitality, you can kind of imagine this is what live might've sounded like, if the chicks could stop screaming and we all, including them, could hear.
Great sounding song, and great vocals as always, but I imagine it reminded him of just how screwed up he was. Apparently he lost his tendency to violence once he got into enough LSD later! He needed real trauma-informed psychotherapy but at least he got psychedelic "therapy"!

It was a run thru of the song similar to a rehearsal. At this point the Beatles taped everything. They knew it was not going to be a final take, they were trying things out to see if they worked out. One thing I like better in this earlier take is the bass guitar. To each his own.
@@blindowlvideos5813 Yes, but normally their "run thrus" were done in the EMI studio and thus on the high quality tape recorder (EMI BTR-2). Your explanation does not explain the poor quality sound.

His heckling of Judy Garland, making a rare public appearance at a rough time in her life when she was trying to revive her career, when they had come to America in 1964 comes to mind.
John is singing about some random guy with obsessive tendencies towards women. He certainly isn’t condoning or glamorizing it. And it isn’t autobiographical.
@@Me97202 It’s definitely autobiographical, even though the “see you dead” line was ripped from an Elvis song called “Baby Let’s Play House”. Lennon was extremely jealous and violent in the early days. A few years after this song was recorded he would come clean about it and regretted his past behaviour towards women. He looked back hating this song, and instead wrote “Jealous Guy” which is another song on the same subject, but from a wiser perspective. When he wrote the lyrics of “Run For Your Life”, I’m 100% positive he felt it. Definitely the Höfner, but the Rick would tender its debut shortly.

John always let us know that he was a serious, 'jealous guy'. There was never a doubt; 'You're Gonna Lose that Girl', "No Reply", so many more.
Even writing himself the part of a janky-ass wifebeater, I never loved another musician like I did him. I worshipped the ground he spat on!
He gets it from the blues artists before him

Yep , Hamburg , Germany where the beer , bratwurst & blondes were the best … not necessarily in that order !!!🤟
I think the best bands always spent a yr on the road playing in dive bars perfecting their craft.

“Wait” was actually the first one they recorded as it was recorded during the “help” album sessions, but this is still very cool to listen too!
if you look at it that way, the first real song is "What goes on" which was recorded in 1963 along with One After 909
