George was 25, Paul was 26, and John & Ringo were both 28 when this was filmed. The Beatles would be no more by the end of the year. Just phenomenal what they accomplished in such a short time at such a young age.
Great comment. So true.
Paul would have been 26IF...
@@NaaHva lol be real, that's Paul.
Why george looks 30+ even though he's the youngest
@@AFilipinoBeatlesLoverhard living but John lived the hardest as he said because he is crazier than the others
🚶🚶🚶🚶🎸🎸🎸🥁
Even though George did not want to be on that roof, you see his smiles as he hears the song coming together so wonderfully.
Imagine being that intern holding the notebook with the lyrics for John
Thats what hes DOING i thought it was a camera at first then i realized it wasn't and COULDN'T figure out what he was DOING john didn't remember the words? Im 65 never ever saw that before
@@jackieguccione94
Apparently John Lennon's memory wasn't very good when it came to remembering lyrics.
There’s a great interview with him on utube. He wasn’t particularly enamoured with the Beatles music but said they were good people etc…how ironic!! He literally responded to a job advertisement and got the gig!!x
George's playing on these roof tops songs is just so essential;. He really was a great guitar player
George stopped playing guitar for a year or so to focus on the sitar. But for three years, from 1969 to 1971, he was one of the most musical guitar players/songwriters in all of rock. Watch him construct his rhythm part on the video of John recording "Oh My Love". Great song, but George's guitar elevates it to the heavens.
George was quite good shock.!
@@abcxyz53 Uh, the "Let It Be" guitar solo (album version)? "Something" probably has to be the best Beatles guitar solo ever (unless you count Eric Clapton on "While my Guitar ..." John barely manages to play the very simple "Get Back" solo, and messed it up a few times. Paul played a more aggressive rock and roll style, which suited certain songs (e.g. Helter Skelter, Taxman), But George was the best guitarist in the band. By far.
You can believe that of course.he was no Clapton and had to play the others tunes. After the last gig his place in the studio was fragile but as we know he wrote arguably the most impressive songs in the late period.@abcxyz53
@@aquamarine99911of course he was ✌️
Mr Billy Preston on Keyboard On Of The Greatest Keyboardest Ever
The 5th Beatle.
"I roll a stony, well you can imitate everyone you know" (A dig at The Rolling Stones)
@JaniceRael it's just a bit of banter
Love the Rollin Uglies buy hey, Blues and Boogie Woogie gets a bit tedious at times. The BeatLes did so many fresh works of art.
George always played fantastic short solos that melted into the song like fire melting the wax in a pool
George and Ringo had no egos when it came to their playing. They never wanted to show off but only ever played what was perfect for the song. I think it’s partly why their playing is so underrated. Hell, Paul’s bass playing too.
GREAT comment!! Fire melting wax ♥️
There is music then there is The Beatles.
Si, todos ejecutaban sus instrumentos en funcion de la cansion, como solo los grandes lo saben hacer. Saludos.
What great solo would the song have if played by Keith Richards, Clapton or Mick Taylor. It would be really awesome.
What really impressed me with the roof top concert was how John really came alive in his performances - during the rehearsals he kidded around a lot but then put it into overdrive, put the peddle to the metal so to speak when it came game time
They invented the artform.
@@ge2623 The ladies call me MISTER MAN CANDY - so i got that going for me
“Pedal.”
If ever there was an example of "going out on top," this is it.
Great fills and solo by George. He was so demeaning of his ability, especially when comparing himself to Clapton, but he was great! We all miss him. 🥰
The greatest rock band in history
No,I disagree, they were much, much more than that.🤷
nope. beatles would be nothing without buddy holly. so that makes buddy holly the greatest.
I love the way John looks at paul when he dose the high parts he's got a big smile it's like this is like when they first started out and the memories are still there.
Yep. he loved him.
John would probably have enjoyed it more had he been smiling at his friend that he formed the band with instead of the impersonator.
@@malachy9400 lol. Seek help.
@@mattyoz0 take a look at their US concerts. Paul was funny and very likeable and a superstar, look at their interviews from that time too, completely different person. This guy on the roof is someone else.
@malachy9400 there's no way you're serious. So they found an identical person with the same skull structure that has one eye socket lower than the other and that can sing and play left-handed guitar as well as piano and write unlimited songs. Sounds totally possible. 🤣
Still so exciting and moving after all these years... That's my favorite band ever.
Same here.
no doubt about it.
Dam best years of or lives
John's voice always gets me, literally one of the best rock voices we've had
Top 5
Influenced Ozzy, Alice, Noddy, etc.
Lennon was the hippest of the hip, the coolest of the cool.
Yes he was and Ringo and George said that they enjoyed playing on John's songs more than Paul's
🎸🎸
uh, no he was a jerk who was so talented he got away with it
Sad but true@@scrambaba
This band was tight. every note and drum beat was in perfect place all the time. The creativity was amazing. This is as good as it gets
Love George's guitar work on this! ❤
This is a brilliant song. The Beatles were brilliant.
Vocal, bass line, guitar solo, everything is brilliant. Real masterpiece.
For John he considered it as a "piece of garbage"
Trash. The entire LP was crap.@@akiouchiyama

@@akiouchiyama John couldn't appreciate his own work, it happens. I usually belittle things I know I can do well, maybe it's depression who knows!
@@user-gn9vu7wn7t Yes, that was just a curious thing...
Always great to see John and Paul singing together. They seemed to harmonize in the most natural sense.
The greatest band that will ever be...in our universe and the universe next to ours!
Masterpiece, so in the groove, so down. I love this song, always have
This concert was so original, momentous at the time, just as the Beatles were and still are. Rock on, gentlemen!
They sound SO good.
The Beatles are a life long friend. We grew up together, felt the joys and pain. Not always on my mind as I grow older and more distant, but all it takes is a song when up or down, and we’re once again in support, right along side and right back where it began. When that feeling transcends everything else and can at a moment snap you back in, there is more in that feeling than life in of itself. Lifelong friends to the end.
Wow! what strong words. And very poetic too. With your permission I will save them in a file. One of the most impressive "confessions" of a Beatles fan that I've read
It was and still is the best band ever
They were at total odds. But when they played together all animosity melted away
I really felt exactly the smile George made during the short solo
This composition wasn’t just 6 years after I Wanna Hold Your Hand. It was light years beyond. The evolution of the songwriting in such a short time blows my mind.
I love this song
FRom boy ban, to pop band, to rockers, in a blink of an eye
I would say they started out as more of a punk rock band, rockin out on stage all night on drugs etc, then boy band (ish), then pop, then rock. But they were always a rock band
Heavily influenced by the king of rock and roll... Chuck Berry.@@aunch3
For sure by punk I mean more in their behavior on and off the stage
SO WONDERFUL WHEN YOU SEE THEM TOGETHER … SIMPLY MAGICAL ❤️
Well Said
Wonderful to see how happy and joyful there are playing live together.
55 years ago and still as good as ever.
This is actually one of my favorite Beatles songs. The bass line is one of the best, the harmonies between John and Paul coming from years of singing with each other, George's "brief but spectacular" solo and Ringo solid bottom combine to make this a gem. They were obviously enjoying playing live. Let It Be is probably my favorite Beatles album.
I dig it
Paul at the end…. uh uh uh uh oh!!
Para mi tambien es de las mejores del disco.
It's just fucking marvellous. I'm a fan of many bands and musicians all over the world but I think I must conclude that the beatles will always be dearest to my heart.
@@ian2armannduccio Here's my take on the Beatles: I think their music will stand the test of time just as some of the music of Bach, Beethoven and other classical music composers has stood that test. I think that one hundred years from now, the music of the Beatles will still be listened to. I hesitate to name a particular song, but some of their stuff is timeless.
Nobody harmonized like John & Paul.
Please understand, The Beatles are 1 of my 2 favorite bands. I fell in love with their music in 63-64.
And no, The Beach Boys aren’t my no.2., but I sure love a lot of what they did.
Brian and Carl Wilson. John and Paul did not have that great of harmonies. Fair at best. The Beatles were very overrated. Pop music.
@@bobgordon236No pop band makes Helter Skelter pal
@@bobgordon236 ignorance can' t be and excuse.
The Beach boys were a influence to The Beatles harmonies, Paul Himself said that
Cool seeing George smiling along with them
El bello George ❤
Effing beautiful...Johns voice..like satin leather and silk wrappibg our esrs in a passionate embrace
Ringo at the beginning, putting his cigarette out: “ hold it!!”
I've watched this hundreds of times and I still can't figure out who says "over and out"? The camera is on Lennon and it's not his mouth moving, in the Get Back documentary you can see both Paul and George and it's neither of them, and it's not Ringo either.
And he pulled out another one just before the song stopped :)
I love this performance
can you imagine, being a Beatles fan and walking down the street.... only to hears music coming from above... sounds like the Beatles but I've never heard the songs before... now listening for first time.... wonder whats going through the minds of those watching from roof tops nearby....
I had the pleasure this past April, going with a fellow Beatle fan friend, seeing the street and building where they performed. Was magical as I imagined being there that day.
Well, not the Beatles , but I was 17 and staying with my older brother in Marin County in 1974. One evening while walking around Sausilito, I heard Clapton music coming out of a small hole in the wall and peeked in to get a look. Nobody cared to ID me. It was him, playing impromptu with some locals. Early Un-Plugged jam. He was my Idol at the time, so I was feeling pretty pumped. Saw him perform at the Cow Palace a week later.
For all the talent in the Beatles, and especially Paul's genius playing of the bass, when it comes down to brass tacks, my favorite Beatles songs must have John on lead vocals. Dig A Pony never had any radio play except on the college low power stations. This can easily rank as their greatest song, or at least in the top five. John's voice is hauntingly beautiful, as he so often is. I also think he wrote most of the lyrics to Dig A Pony. That is always a source of debate with followers of the Beatles. Was it John, Paul, or both who wrote the lyrics and the chord line? In my uneducated opinion, this one is all John. Shout out to Ringo for steady rhythm and George for his very creative lead guitar. We will never see the likes of these four again.
We certainly won't see the likes of them again.
For me, John had the best voice I've ever heard. His singing here is perfect. He's unforgettable.
And it's really special why you consider this: They wrote the majority of these tunes, arranged and whipped them together for a performance in just a few weeks! Amazing...😮
there are no words, except for just AMAZING
I was born in 61. Watched Ed Sullivan with my big sister on 2-9-64. Lennon has been my idol ever since!
All of us (I’m 73) who grew up with them all feel we have our own special relationship with them that doesn’t really exist in reality but in our hearts and minds.
Feel the same, I'm 71 ❤❤❤
Then, it does exist. I'm with you, friend.
That was masterful in every way. They were such creative artists.
I'm just mesmerized by this guys, over and over...
I love this song and I've commented on it before. Now I'd just like to say that John had the greatest sideburns.
10/16/23 MY LOVE FOR THIS SONG BROUGHT ME HERE TODAY!!!
Just bl**dy amazing.
Love Paul singing into the echoing mic at the end. He was always looking for a new sound, effect, etc.
George was playing a new Fender Telecaster given to him by Fender. It weighed a ton, was solid rosewood, which is why he’s so hunched over.
Love the human lyric prompter!
What a fantastic group. For some reason I got teary-eyed listening. These guys just loved playing live together. So much joy in their performance. John's rhythm guitar is so distinctive. Amazing tone.
Musically that is a great sounding song by every single player playing his part.
I love them, Beatles 4ever ❤
As a Beatles fan for almost 40 years now, this is so refreshing. It's timeless. Btw, been loving the Fab Four since I first Obladi-Oblada 35 years ago.
Look, John's so happy, they all were in their element. They'd been since 1957
I just noticed something!!! John's look at Paul at the second verse smiling; and the man holding the lyrics for him 2 feet away ❤
Must be different camera angles used in this video compared to other ones we’ve seen cuz I never saw that orange haired dude before whilst watching this - either that or it the Mandela effect. Ha!
@@richieboy6825before they performed this song John asked someone to hold the lyrics up for him, so that guy was always there.
Always loved these guys since 63
are you kidding me, always loved John, this guy kicks butt.
what about the bass playing from Paul? Marvellous!
I love this song. ❤
Simply stated - I love this song and especially those wonderful Guitar Runs. Beatles harmonies are amazing. Loved George's leads on his new Tele that he really did not like, as usual - perfect.
Thank you brothers 🎵

THE GREATEST SHORT CONSERT OF ALL TIME
R.I.P. John and George.
Amazingly captivating! After years of being studio creatures, the boys put to rest any doubt they could still bring it live......and under very challenging conditions (freezing ass!) Love this.
Simplesmente perfeito !!! O conhecimento musical que eles tinham pra época é incrível, os beatles se tornou uma energia inexplicável capaz de atravessar gerações
Kkk. Pra época?.O que isso quer dizer?

This is so marvelous, so perfect.Take George’s guitar part, it’s fantastic.

This is my ten year old grandsons favorite song. ( he can sing it too!)
Wow, fantastic that we have this to enjoy
Great,great ,... facination..magical music..nothing to say!!
Excelente , excelente no hay comparación con ningún grupo
It is so great seeing Lennon really enjoying this performance. He really looked happy singing this song
My thoughts exactly. Love the song - another of the many songs that the Beatles did that sounded like nothing that anyone else was doing.
One great track .love johns voice
There are literally people who have never heard a Beatles song. So sad. So glad they have always been "In My Life" and will be until I am deaf or dead.
What I wouldn't have given to be the person holding the lyric sheet in front of Lennon. Best job ever.
Fantastic performance by a band that hadn't played live for years. Just incredibly good.
I know the footage is all cut together but it seemed to me that both Paul and John were looking for eye contact with each other but missing each other at certain times. If anyone else thought the same I'd really appreciate your remarks about this.
Yeah. Quick little subtle glances, partly making sure they're on the same page, performance-wise, but more so looking at their friend they've been through thick and thin with, and all the emotions and baggage that come with being with someone for so long. Like, this is the last hurrah. The documentary perfomance of "She Came In Through the Bathroom Window" is my favorite for this very reason. It has that same "trying to catch their eye" thing that you mentioned.
You're wrong. They had been practising non stop for 2 months. It's from the let it be sessions where they were meant to do a live TV show. The roof concert would replace that. As for it being cut together you couldn't be more wrong. These boys were geniuses brought together by years of playing together. Go watch the documentary and you'll see.
@@marksaunders4142 I know they had been practicing/rehearsing, but practicing/rehearsing is *not* the same as a live performance. During the rooftop concert there were something like nine different cameras filming from different angles, and this footage most certainly *is* comprised of multiple cuts from those different angles.
@@favouritemoon4133 no its not. There are no cuts in the rooftop performance. You can watch the whole thing from the roof one song after the other. 3 cameras on roof . 2 on street. 1 on opposite roof. I hidden in reception. Have you even watched the documentary get back? Stop talking bs
@@marksaunders4142 Do you even know what a ‘cut’ means? I just means switching between different shots that have been filmed by separate cameras. And clearly anyone with eyes can see the rooftop concert film cuts between multiple shots: close, medium, wide, extreme wide, etc.
Oh Yeah.... This Rooftop Concert was Just Too Much... Only The Fellas Would Think of Doing Something Like This.. Absolutely Iconic ☺☺😎👊💯💯
The Beatles on the roof top singing dig a pony last time they played live together sad day for everyone but there music 🎵 will go on forever and ever

Love whoever said "thank you brothers" at the very end. That was one of my favourite details on the let it be version, so that confirms that those two performances are the same.
I was 9 when I first saw them and there was no other band I loved after seeing them. They were so young, but I didn’t realize that until I was much older after watching Wings and Paul.
