"Peat Bog Soldiers" (German: Die Moorsoldaten) is one of Europe's best-known protest songs. It exists in countless European languages and became a Republican anthem during the Spanish Civil War. It was a symbol of resistance during the Second World War and is popular with the Peace movement today. It was written, composed and first performed in a Nazi concentration camp by prisoners.
These songs are for educational purposes and don't reflect my beliefs or are meant to further a political agenda and social.

I remember that the part about visiting Dachau that was weirdly the most chilling is that the birds weren’t singing, and it was summertime.

I am reading the book " the boy who drew Auschwitz" which has this song written on page 163. I looked it up on here to listen to. He described it as , and I quote ..." a song handed down to us by veteran prisoners about life at the moorland camps near Papenburg- now a decade old. One song , with both music and words composed by inmates, was successful, since it was first heard in 1934, at the Borger-moor concentration camp. It had become a kind of political prisoners' anthem everywhere . Ten years earlier , this emotional tune had been hummed by lone forgotten German anti-fascists at hidden moorland camps on the Ems. " " The prisoners hymn, floating out from our block to penetrate the dark night, had become a challenge ". .... Author Thomas Geve , who wrote 'The boy who drew Auschwitz'.
