Intruder At The Off-Grid Cabin

- On a recent trip to the cabin I discovered that someone had found it, there were boot prints leading all the way to the cabin. Now that someone knows about it I wasn't able to relax and enjoy myself. In my experience people generally like to destroy things they find. This person could now tamper with items at the cabin , steal or destroy. It appears that they were there before by reading their boot prints. There was no wandering they walked with intent and purpose. This is probably someone that lives near the area and has experience in the outdoors. I purposely made the cabin very difficult to get to with plenty of steep hills, deadfall and thick brush to ward anyone away. I built this cabin shortly after my mom passed away. This kept my mind busy and helped with the mourning process. I knew this cabin would take a long time to complete with my back injury and three hernias.
You hit the nail on the head when you said they didn't try to enter your cabin. If they really wanted to they would have, so they probably were curious (who wouldn't be) but respect the fact that it is someone else's property. There are many, many good people out there. Looking forward to seeing you back there soon.

There's a huge difference between natural curiosity and criminal intent, and its quite understandable that if a person came across the cabin they'd be naturally curious about it and look around.
Its no different to seeing a nice motorcycle or camper in the street and checking it out (visually, not physically).
There's always a possibility that someone may interfere with, or try to gain entry, this applies to vehicles too.
I wouldn't let it dampen your enthusiasm, the fact that nothing was damaged or taken indicates that the person was simply curious rather than criminal.
I will continue to monitor the cabin and see what happens ✌
Ken, I agree with Felix. It might just be a look-e-loo who’s just curious. Put some real cameras up to get peace of mind. Praying for the best.
@@danmcnamee1017 Thanks Dan. Unfortunately there is a lot of rural crime around here. I had my side window smashed out and my car ransacked, plus I had a trailcam stolen last year.
Ya it always sucks when someone finds your spot. But ya never know he might not ever be back. I wouldn't give up on it that's forsure. Stay positive brotha 👍

Damn.. that sucks brother. Hopefully they're friendly. I left a note when I found that lean to out in the woods that one time but no one answered it. Too bad you can't set up a real trail cam to see who they are. Hope all goes well from here on out. Thanks for sharing brother

not all people are bad ,if have a cabin in northern Maine that akes 5 hours minimum to hike to..someone found mine they went in made coffee a fire they completely filled my wood pile replaced 10x,s what they uded and left me a 20 dollar bill on table note said thanks for the coffee and a place to warm up ..hope you have the same luck

This reminds me of what happened to me. This past November 2024. I had a pop-up 2 person. Dear blind on state land for deer hunting and and some people did not want me there on state land. Here in northern Michigan, we got dumped on with 3 feet of snow right after Thanksgiving. My son alone took me out there a week later to get my stuff out of the woods. And guess what? The people that did not want me hunting there. Took my blind, my chair. My heater and a 5 gallon pill. That I call a survival kit. Had personal items just to keep me safe and warm a pair of binoculars. My daughter gave me 2 hats that were my late younger brother's that I used every year. They took everything. A true sportsman would never do that to another sportsman.

I'm so sorry this theft took place. My great grandma always said that God doesn't like ugly. This thief or thieves will be repaid in an unpleasant way by God. They did the wrong thing. They stole. You can do the right thing. Pray for the safety and redemption of their souls.

Did you track the dog, was it goofy or deliberate? Maybe the CO 🧐 I know that feeling when your not bothering anyone and somebody comes to screw with you anyway. I’ve realized that life is too short to put up with that anymore, and so I shan’t 😂
There wasn't any dog tracks. Just one man.

I used to put a flashing led light running all the time off a battery inside so it can be seen. Or a sign saying that there are trail cams in operation, you don't need but the meer fact that there might be tends to put people on good behaviour.
He might of thought it abandoned but checked it.

I watch a lot of these 'cabin in the woods' videos......and I'm often wondering if these the cabins are on public land or the posters own property? (especially those who seem to have multiple cabins at their disposal).....I certainly understand your state of mind and need to create while grieving; I've done the same........
Good question Jim. I have permission
there are times people get lost in the wood. I never leave my cabin locked. There is a sign... if you are lost and need a place, take what you need but no more. Leave what you can to help the next person. If I had found your cabin, I would have been curious and would have looked and also left something you did not have. But also if I needed, I would have entered and stayed... but I would have cut you wood, or left you rabbit or whatever I could leave in thanks. That is the way of the wilderness.

You own the land, right? Don't over think it. It could have been a game warden that spotted it from the air and went to check on it. Or a neighbor that was curious of what was near them, because they heard activity.
Its a friends remote property. He works in the high arctic
@@Thelonelyscavenger all you can do, is see if there's any new prints. If you do, then it kind of tells you they are up to no good. I hope whatever the intention the person had going up to your camp, was harmless.
You should set up a trail cam
So is the 'cabin' on someone else's property? If not, I think you need to lock it up as tight it up and let them know they're on private property and being watched.

Maybe it was a Game Warden checking for illegal baiting or just scoping the area out? But no matter who, they were on the deer's trail.

Maybe it’s somebody like you. That wants to be left alone. Or thought they were alone. Been here the chopping of wood at night or similar activity in our checking you out
Chances are you are right. Another outdoorsman that is respectful and wants the soletude of the woods. Dont jump to negativity because you don't know yet.
Put up 5 or 6 trail cams so you at least know what these people look like.

I am sooo sorry always someone out there to rain on your parade we have had the same problem that you have and let you said it is usually someone close set up booby traps and warning slealth alarms to warn you god bless takecare

It's pretty sad you can't even have a spot in the middle of nowhere without some BLEEPING scumbag ruining it. Have you set up any trail cams to see if you can spot the pc. Of 💩. And I hope your protecting yourself so if you get out there and he's there he'll be the one regretting it and not you.
If they where going to break in they would have doubt they would come back put up a trail cam
