I am a DIYer and whenever I talk to pros about mortar and concrete they always say to make it as dry as possible to keep the strength up. I have noticed you make it pretty wet. Did you ever say why in your other videos and I've missed it? Maybe you don't need the strength and you want to make it as easy as possible to move around? thanks for the great vids.
Some "pros" say things because they were told, but they've never studied it or Have done in it enough to know how much of a difference it makes or have the common sense of what they are actually working. If you're going to build an interstate bridge across the river, it matters because that bridge was engineered to a specific slump for a specific mix for that project, any variance can be catastrophic and change the amount of the strength the bridge actually has. However, If I'm pouring a sidewalk or a collar for a retaining wall, the decrease in strength is so negligible that it isn't worth worrying about. Most 4000 psi mixes poured around 4" thick can support 3,000 pounds per square foot. Do I need this wall that will be a little over four feet tall to support 3,000 pounds in vertical force every foot along the wall? Nah, not even close. So I make the mix work for the job I'm doing. When I poured the TH-cam yacht floor, I poured the engineered mix to the correct slump that the span required. When Im dumping mud in a hole for a retaining wall it's whatever makes my life easier. Pouring a stiff mix makes me have to work faster and harder to set my first row. This gives me time to make adjustments and breath. Excellent question though!
Capt, you have more drive than most people I know. Sometimes the hardest thing we have to do is just keep moving. It is looking FANTASTIC, and I hope that your “house” will be just what you need.
Mike, you should get an award for expending the most calories per minute on TH-cam! You work harder than any TH-camr I'm aware off. The pool project is coming along so that us mortals can actually see where you are going with this. Excellent video. Keep them coming. I said before that your 555 engine rebuild makes for the best starting Diesel on YT. I can't believe it started on that weak battery. The variety of projects you have going is just awesome. We look forward to Mondays and Thursdays.
Mike, I will never know how you keep up your enjoyment and determination for all your projects. Your comments make me smile every day and you are so funny. Please look after yourself, you don’t want a burn out situation and you look a little tired. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Excellent work Captain Fossil rock falls is the perfect name for such an internationally significant spot in the woods Going to be superb when finished !!
Hardest working man on TH-cam. That plunge pool is really coming along now. Your family is going to be enjoying that next summer for sure. Stay safe Captain.
hay mike seams a feller might want a drain line at the bottom of the pool to remove /change the water once you get it finished and might help during the build as well just saying. keep doing you
I get the impression you weren’t up for this project right now 🤣😂🤣 I know that feeling but when you get to the spring you’ll be so glad you did it 😁 Excellent as always Mike 👍👍🇺🇸🇬🇧🇺🇸🇬🇧
I find it's always important to breathe, I can understand the lack of motivation especially when you have loads of projects on and some will be easier to complete than others. Nice of that company to supply that building, obviously it has to be certified by the Admiral 1st but am sure it will be ok. Like the name your youngest has given the pool, it sounds apt. 👍
you're persistence is remarkable, i don't think i would have the persistence you have, great progress Mike loved your videos, and if filming gets in the way of progress just put us up in a corner and time lapse it.👍👍👍👍👍
Doing good with the rake. My father while living taught me to dig with the tines and move more materials. Flip it over and use the back to smooth and flatten. The back side is a long flat and the tines are up in the air moving what doesn't fit. Hope that helps other home workers. I'm 77 and he grew up on a farm with horses to plow with. Take care.
Another great and fun video. You make it and they will come !!!!! I am really looking forward to the rest of the build and to see you and your family enjoying the tropical oasis (resort) you are constructing !!! Thank you
Good on you for pushing through despite not wanting to do the heavy lifting “today”. Put this one in your back pocket for tough times like that: “because you will do today what others won’t do is why later you can do things that they cannot”. You are still young enough to bust it out through your hustle and energy by digging deep. The only digging deep you can easily do later will be in your pocket.
Goodmorning Mike! I absolutely love this project! All it takes is walk with the family and remembering "this is my backyard" to reignite the motivation for some of the less desirable jobs. My Mrs and I do that regularly. Also, I appreciate the Canadian conversion on the sump pump hahaha! Have a great one!
Now that you somewhat have a gravel base in the plunge pool you should create a “sump” near the edge so you know where to place the submersible pump in the future. Somewhere convenient to refill the IBC tote with the high quality water for your masonry mix but also somewhere convenient to just pump it over the hill when you have excess. Looking forward to future progmess and seeing the shelter house that shows up.
Good Morning Captain!! I’m so proud of you. An entire video and you didn’t kill a camera, microphone or anything…. LOL. The swimming hole is looking great. Keep up the good work. Stay Safe Brother!!
"Don't get cheap on me Dodgson!" ....Jurassic Park Yeah, we are getting close, but I'm still amazed that it is working! Plunge pool is needing some water retention maintenance upkeep! 😁😁
Great video Mike, place is really coming together, you put a lot of work into this project.your vision is coming together.just don’t get yourself burned out, take a break from whatever you’re working on and relax a little bit,I know it’s hard to do,but it’s better than losing interest in certain projects.just keep doing what you do best,be safe.enjoy time with family.😎😎😎👍👍👍
One step at a time, Captain. But it is looking better and better the more you work on it. One great thing though.. We all know the pool can hold water. 😊
“Deal with lazy”, no, I say dealing with a getter done attitude would be more like it. That project is coming along very nicely, I am beginning to see the finished pool now, it’s going to be a little different than what I first envisioned, but I like what I see, good progress on the pool area. Thanks for the update, always enjoy your content, no matter what you are working on.😊
Kleeman Khronikes kontinue....Bud, I'm tired just watching this. That employee of yours, Manual Labor, sure has put in some hard work. The pool is taking shape, looking more like a tourist destination than ever. Great channel, great content.
Mike; You can only do, what you can do, when you can do it! Sort of like the bathroom window, I just repaired. Needed done for a long time, but I finally got to it! Great video! Lee PS: The 304 in fitting to to the Captain's stable rather nicely!
@@GLUFSAREN I can see it both ways. He could of just dug a hole and put a plastic tub or pond liner in it and it would of been done. But he is going the extra mile and doing all the stonework. Simple but not pretty. Hard and lots of work and beautiful.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, ideas and videos. Great installment in the swimming hole build. Maybe Vevor could send you a large diameter core drill that you could use to add daylight to the bottom of your hole in the rock. Better include a few extensions. Maybe put in a dry well for your pump with some drainage tiles into it behind the wall. The water that is likely to be behind the wall scares me a bit when I think about winter 🥶. Wishing you and your family the best.
Looking good! I’m not sure if you have mentioned anything about it before but I think you should put a drain in the bottom to keep any unwanted water out. Would suck to get a bubble under your fancy liner. Keep up the hard work!
As always, stellar ✨️ video. I was thinking to myself, why doesn't he make a shoot to toss the concrete and morter down? A bucket at the bottom would catch it. (Old used tin, plywood, or pvc pipe and shotgun the mix down) Also, I was thinking for S's&G's, why not pour the foundation with dry concrete. Beings it's under water it would set up very fast. Just spitballing here. Trying to be helpful. I realize the footer is done...lol, but for future reference...😂 Keep'em coming, Mike. I try never to miss a video.🎉 It took me all day and rewinding a hundred times. But i got to watch the whole video. Just trying to help your click through rate. 😂😅😊
Awesome video! The progress is happening. The water is a pain. At least you have a pump. I can hardly wait until the next video to see what is next. Thanks for sharing ✨️ 👍 😊
I concur with the mud theory. I have been fighting it since the white stuff was here. Figure out when the ground gets too hard to slosh I MAY, MIGHT, POSSIBLY get what I need done to get the water where it belongs. Probably not, but I can always hope 😮. If I had your energy and patience it might have been done 😂
Thanks for bringing us along with the laughs, groans, and full journey. I appreciate you opening up about digging deep for motivation (still kinda funny you say that next to a huge hole, so good on you for that one)... The whole place is looking amazing. Hope you get a change of gears on projects as the weather changes.
Good morning sunshine! Oh my you sure scared me when you were scooping out that water! Another awesome video! Much love and respect from Henderson Ga USA
