  • Brenton Graveley, Ph.D., University of Connecticut Health Center, studies RNA binding proteins (RBPs) with a focus on understanding their roles in gene regulation. RBPs are crucial for post-transcriptional regulation, affecting processes such as splicing, polyadenylation, RNA stability, and translation. Dr. Graveley's research aims to identify RBPs and their targets, understand RBP functions, and mechanisms of splicing regulation.
Professor Graveley is also a key contributor to the Encyclopedia of DNA Elements (ENCODE) project, a collaborative effort aimed at cataloging all functional elements in the human genome. The Encyclopedia of RNA Elements (ENCORE) is an extension of the broader ENCODE project, specifically focusing on identifying and characterizing all functional RNA elements within the human genome. The project involves collaborations among numerous laboratories and researchers, integrating data from multiple sources to build a comprehensive encyclopedia of RNA elements. This collective effort aims to provide a valuable resource for understanding the complexities of RNA biology and its implications in health and disease.
This presentation was part of the Genome Technology Forum, a hybrid event held at The Jackson Laboratory and in conjunction with the National Human Genome Research Institute.
