Field mechanics are the unsung heros of any operation. And they get a lot of pressure because every hour of downtime is costing the company thousands of dollars. ✌️
It's just sad to see that the really professional ones are getting more and more rare, too many people who are in the job without any actual skills. Poor welding jobs, not using grease at all for parts that need it, loosing parts and bolts in the mud, then replacing them with something they shouldn't be replaced with, or not even putting all the bolts back etc... I guess many get into field service because it pays so well as a contractor and once you leave the site you can pretty much forget about it and let someone fix your mistakes - and the market is so big that you can get away with poor workmanship for quite long.
Kurtis is the first bloke I thought of too. Isaac from I C Weld is a master as well. Isaac has an awesome service truck for doing a lot of field service work in Texas.
Incredible cinematography, many of us live working with these teams day by day and it is an honor and in your video it looks spectacular 🤩🤗✨👍. Greetings from 🇵🇹❤️🇨🇱😎👍
When I first started I didn't know how good I had it with our mechanic and how much he taught me in the off season while working with him . When he left the company it was incredible how quickly things were piled up broken , other stuff barely making it through the day and they went through about 7 more before they got a mechanic who was halfway decent again !!!
A little longer frame you could add a single sleeper behind the cab...could come in real handy on one of those late night repair jobs that has the need the machine running for 7am, start time.
Thompson Cat brother your getting close home now , Our company exchange D11Blades and built 30’ wide Coal Bucket for 992 Cat loader. Worked on 100yd dragline buckets and sold lot abrasion res steel . Retired in 2011 Don’t get back KY very much , most surface mines are gone but enjoyed working big iron.
In a service truck similiar but not only welding repairs, fabricating. Had field machining equipment and welded, machined the holes back to factory dimensions as well.
@@AaronWittExactly the demand far out paces the supply of these trade skills and there needs to be a push to bring the Heavy Diesel Mechanic and Welding Trade programs back to the high school level. We had these great programs when I graduated back in the mid 1980’s but unfortunately all the Trade Skills programs were all phased out in the mid nineties in order to push the 4 year college path.
You should come check out the coal mine in brookwood Alabama for southland resources the swans strip pit. Got 3 komatsu pc 2000s like 5 d11s 2 d10s it’s a pretty cool pit and cool to wach how we mine the coal
This one of the jobs that I did when I worked for Michigan Caterpillar. The biggest difference was the truck that I was assigned to, much different, and smaller than this truck shown. But the job has not changed much. Fix what were sent out to do and then call in for another job.
Man another great show! Love the truck tour, Patrick keeps a nice rig. I would love the body but not the emissions issues from the truck😂. With Cat money I guess thats not a concern. Palfinger sure makes nice stuff, but you pay for it😬. Hey, a guy can dream, right? I cant find a body company with less than a 18 month wait list. Its crazy how many of these trucks are sold every year. At around $225,000 I cant make sense of it. Maybe one day I will figure it out, till then guess I'll just keep welding😂. Thanks for the cool videos, you guys rock!✌️
The emissions stuff isn't great but it's improved a lot over 10-15 years ago. CAT aftertreatment systems have been surprisingly reliable lately and Detroit isn't half bad either.
I see that shimoda designs camera bag. 👀 I have the same one, great bag. I happen to be a photographer and heavy equipment nerd. I used to turn wrenches for CAT. I had a similar truck, not nearly as new.
Your in my neck of the woods, looks like a vulcan plant, Thompson cat has been 5***** from the beginning....up until 2021 they ran ford 750 maintenance trucks, they just got the kws between last year and this year ...this was awesome hate i missed you guys, if you are or ever come back you should do a segment with Saiia Construction!!!
I worked at this kind of work in the seventies and eighties. What I do know is welding in that heat outdoors is brutal.... almost unbearable and for a old man in alaska, it would kill me deader than a sack full of hammer heads... nice rig, their never going to absolute but its better than a good many. Many trucks bigger have limited access to different jobs and complicate things. I do hope it is his truck and not a loaner as it takes time to learn those rigs... and they break down also
Dam that's one hell of a field service truck, here in the UK our service trucks ain't even trucks they are your average 3.5 ton vans like a Merc Sprinter or a Ford Transit but obviously the longer high roof versions. I've never seen a service truck similar to the American one's here in the UK i don't know why companies don't spec a truck similar to the American one's over here 🤔
honest question, why not space the additional material on top of the blade a 1/4" or so? would that not save time with the arc gouging and then you can get a full pen weld? I fab stringers and ornamental railings so dont roast me to hard

@@UncleManuel yep , and you are the one who gets all of their gruff even though you are there only to help get them up and running

Next time you're in Queensland Australia, swing by Cutting Edge Engineering and watch Kurtis work his magic repairing mining equipment.

love than channel! that dude can fab/machine it all!
Patrick is great to work with and has taught me a lot. Thanks for sharing this video. He also keeps that truck spotless 😂
he's the man we had a good time
Can definitely tell he takes pride in his truck! If he's that meticulous about his truck, his work is going to be top notch as well!

The D10 pushing coal at the end was a sight to behold! These machines are truly powerful! 💪

That's a great truck. Patrick needs a TH-cam channel of his own!
Excellent weld.
Awesome video.
Respect labor!
Thank you!
In the Morning Patrick! Great set of Kit!
Another great video, Aaron. Thanks for sharing and have a great day!!

Can't wait to be able to go to school for this stuff. I wanna be the person to fix it.
please please please please, make longer videos! you guys cut so much good stuff out in favor of short videos.
they're slowly getting longer!

You make the best vids thank you from Australia 🇦🇺
thanks for watching!
@2:20 "My smokin hot wife works there too" - That helps
LOL
Great video Aaron ❤
Good mechanics are worth their weight in gold without their skills and knowledge nothing gets done 😎👍. They can easily pull in six figures plus!
oh yeah it's a big time field and only getting bigger

@@tristenklein225 The community college down the road from me is starting a diesel tech program. It's great to see and the demand is certainly there!

Nice Truck!
For the winter I would really like to see a tour of the CalTrans Kodiak snowblowers they have for I80 amongst other highways

I see a ton of Cat repair trucks around here in Tampa. I always love thinking about how they might be on their way to save somebody's ass! 🤣🤣
Awesome

This is what I do but for smaller equipment. I'm trying to get into the bigger stuff but hard to find anywhere that has field welder positions 😕

😮😮Where is that at 00:58 ?
yep
It'd be cooler if more service trucks put CB's in.
After being a Field Service Mechanic for 30 years the most important tool is there MIND without a sharp mind that truck is nothing!!!
Needs a bullbar!
Literally looks like any other large field service truck lol
And fun fact Palfinger is from Austria 😂
Gotta link up with Tekamo
Why don’t you try doing a oil rig?
Wondering what it weighs with all the equipment and tools it's got to be close to be over weight?
29500
And the gross vehicle weight is 33K, which requires a class B CDL

Those trucks can't fix Biden so you should add 'Almost' to the title.
Who, you mean joe Biden? 😂
He’s destroyed the country for 50 years should have been booted decades ago!
Yeah he does
