The End being there makes sense because the Ancients sealed its essence and not its physical form. What we see in Superstars isn't The End, but its empty physical form. The dragon tho? Well, idk. They just came out of nowhere for whatever reason and said: "GRAHHHHH. IT'S BOSS FIGHT TIME"
The only problem with that is mario said only the player saw it as a moon while sonic, sage and everyone else saw something different keaning its not just a vessel. The "moon" was actually it.
The end is a top down shooter. Sega could have made "The End" any random crap and said, "thats what was talking to you all along". Even a dragon, a moon, a planet, a donkey

The stone actually appears in one more place. It's present in the base hubworld throughout the game, and I recognized it immediately from the prologue mural...but that still doesn't explain the final boss lol
I'm actually shocked how people even got confused at the Dragon when they literally teased it in the end of Trio of Trouble animation and in Golden Capital, I guess people need to catch on more lol
The Egg Fortress seemed to have messed with time, even restoring Speed Jungle to what it was before Fang went all trigger happy. I think Eggman was trying to rewind time to bring the dragon back, and with it the sealing stone. As for the Dragon itself, I think it could be an incarnation of the End. The color schemes are similar and who's to say two incarnations must be identical. The End cameo'ing in Egg Fortress could've been foreshadowing the dragon's release.
Superstars' story reminds me of 3&K, where certain things only make sense if you read the manual, except there is no manual. The opening animation kinda implies Eggman wanted the dragon (he kinda asks Fang to capture it) but we never see what they do to free him. He just captured the animals and built a few bases like he always does.

It’s interesting because a lot of this game’s marketing revolved around trying to emulate the “feel” of classic sonic, and having this story with elements that seemingly don’t connect at first glance is I think part of that attempt at recreating that “feel”… still, I would like to know why in the world did they go from golden capital to cyber station… I think that threw me off even more than the dragon itself lol.
I feel like we might get some explanation for the ending from a variety of different resources, the most likely ones being TailsTube or the next game. While I do wish they could've just made it make more sense in the game, I still do hope that we at least get some sort of explanation. There's also a possibility that we could wait for some sort of SuperStars bonus DLC that adds on to the story. That could be neat. As for The End, I have two theories. I think Trip the Sungazer's design is inspiration SEGA took from the lizard villains that got scrapped from the first Sonic movie that were later replaced with the Echidna tribe.

I guess we can assume that the figures in the mural resembling Trip were also guardians. Perhaps her armor was passed down by the guardian who came before her.
Superstars story in a nutshell: Sonic and friends go to northstar islands, where the chaos emeralds are! And after suffering through terrible boss fights, a big scary dragon comes out of NOWHERE and says "SUPRISE B****!!!!!" and after a forgettable boss fight, Trip uses some goofy aw stone to seal that goofy aw dragon down to hell! The end! Im never revisiting this game :)
I think its pretty neat that it seems like there are different colonies or tribes in the past that had relationships with emeralds and harnessed them in different ways
It’s funny how you can see “The end” above Mobius in egg fortress. And it makes sense that it’s in sonic frontiers because this game takes place in the past.

This final boss disappointed me so much that it caused me physical pain Yes, I like it NOW, but the work you have to do to get to this fight is just too much
I'm guessing the dragon was simply sealed by the Trip / Sungazer civilization using the emeralds at Northstar Island, and by collecting them there, we released it, only to properly defeat it using Super Sonic and the stone to finish it off / fully seal it. It's kinda weird how they set this up, but I guess.. it works in it's own bubble? Feels like they wanted to do Last Story but didn't have a boss for it, so they kinda just.. gave us the dragon and alluded to it in the mural.
Also, the appearance of The End is probably just an easter egg of it 'watching' Sonic and pals from Cyber Space, unable to do much else. Maybe it was trying to see if any of them had potential to unwillingly free it?
All of us were literally praying for it not to be the end and we ended up with the end but it's a dragon. They need to stop having out of no where villains and actually make them coherently tied to the story we go through.

As for the end, there was a comment I saw somewhere that I really liked. It was like the end isn’t actually there, it’s observing Sonics memories of the events while he’s running thru cyberspace, as it said “I saw your mind as you ran through my prison” so kinda like we’re playing a memory of these events
I was so confused by this. I finally beat Fangs giant robot. credits rolled saw the last story option selected it and the games is like SUDDENLY DRAGON! It was like dragon from Mario Odyssey somehow escaped it's game to come and invade this one. Which probably would've been a better story I think.

Alright so the way I’m head canoning the end being here is that what we’re seeing is the end peering into Sonic’s memories. Remember the end talks about seeing Sonic’s mind and knowing about how he’s faced “machines and gods”. I think it’s there but not really *there* if that makes sense. Like the entirety of superstars is just one big flashback. Honestly given the fact that the end just looks like a giant moon I wonder if that’s gonna be Sega’s explanation for the moon not being broken after SA2. We weren’t actually looking at the moon. ok so here's a small theory i have: in the end of the game, sonic's gang visits egg fortress, yet another eggman space station, though there is one difference with the others... IT'S EXTREMELY FRAGILE!!! so why would eggman rush a base like that? my thoughts, the egg fortress and emperor eggman robo (name i invented for the final boss) were only a plan B, if plan A "find and control the dragon" failed, and here is where it "failed", golden capital act 2, at the end of the act, trip transforms into her super form for the first time and in front of fang, and it is a dragon. so it would have been as followed: after trip defeated the mecha hunter prototype (name i invented for fang's huge robot), fang ran away from golden capital, and told eggman he found the dragon and that it was trip, eggman was the so joyful that the dragon he was searching was on his side since the beggining the second thing fang said changed his mood COMPLETLY, she sided with sonic, so, with an all powerful dragon coming after him just 2 zones away from his base, he quickly put his plan B into action and rushed the egg frotress just to try to have a powerful weapon with him
Eggman over using the islands odd energys, when he rewind the damage on his egg fortress, and then nack use it to, the energy being drain from the islands broke the seal which unless the evil dragon, the evil dragon was one of Trip's people who was evil and use the emeralds power negative energy becoming a monster [every person, figure so on who use the emeralds negative energy becomes a monster.] the islands odd energy play a odd effect on the emeralds which how all them 7 effects happen when using them. that how you explain it, and that how I see it. Trip people are related to dragons and knights cause of the armor.
I mean the Classic Sonic timeline is different from the Modern Sonic timeline.[Seemingly splitting after S+K] Phantom Ruby shenanigans and all that. Entirely possible another The End exists in that timeline.
Maybe its a bit to forced but the Dragon may be a form of The end since its said to have multiple avatars and you know being the embodiment of death so maybe the dragon its 1 of his forms, there's a high chance of Superstars Getting DLC so maybe it will be better explained later

I mean if you paid attention to the mural it would have been obvious. In Sonic 3 there is also a mural predicting the future. Nobody had a problem with that. Anyways, I like the idea of a classic game having more story and honestly it’s extremely easy to follow in my opinion apparently it isn’t somehow.
My Theory is that Frontiers and superstars take place at the same time it's just that superstars and frontiers are separate universes. Dragon is the end in this universe and trip is supposed to represent this universes ancient species the coco. For the who disagree 👇
Hot take, I prefer the separate sonic. It at least can he consistent. But knowing Sega, they'd fuck it up even more. So forcing it back together could be a good thing.

As a game Superstars was as bland and boring as Forces was. Frontiers was too good and a huge reason this game is such a let down is due to how hard of an act it had to follow.

I believe the Black Dragon was probably a member of Trip’s race who used the negative energy of the Emeralds and became the monster he is.

@@Rusty_Spy How so? I mean the Phantom Ruby is dumb in concept but save for that, the story is rather easy to understand.
@@Redpoppy80 it's not as confusing, but stuff like Little Planet being chained and that being the focus of the ending cutscene comes out of nowhere and Heavy King and Eggman apparently fighting over the phantom ruby in the Super Sonic boss is also not properly conveyed.

I mean if you paid attention to the mural it would have been obvious. In Sonic 3 there is also a mural predicting the future. Nobody had a problem with that. My Theory is that Frontiers and superstars take place at the same time it's just that superstars and frontiers are separate universes. Dragon is the end in this universe and trip is supposed to represent this universes ancient species the coco.

As a game Superstars was as bland and boring as Forces was. Frontiers was too good and a huge reason this game is such a let down is due to how hard of an act it had to follow.
