I'm going to agree. Hey check out the Black Marble cover. I personally believe you will be very pleased that you did. He does his synthwave spin on it.
Remember hearing this on the radio while dishwashing and immediately stopped, to listen awestruck. Dropped the dishbrush and ran straight to the recordshop! Those were the days...
Agios Nikolaos, Crete, Greece. September 1981. This song was played a lot in the bar next to the apartment building overlooking the sea front when I was there. The song had been released in 1980 but this was the first time I'd heard it. I'd stand on the balcony looking out to sea listening to the music below. It always brings back memories of that place.
Agreed 100%, Mick...this song has EVERYTHING...the lyrics, the instrumentation, the cadence & the atmosphere...& in this version, some of the best touring musicians of the time...can't believe that we lost him at only 54, more than 20 years ago now...just like this song, this guy had EVERYTHING...great looks & sensational sartorial style (good luck saying that if you have a lisp!), that typically 'northern' charisma & sense of humour, a wonderful voice & a great mind for songwriting...the guy was a fucking STUD!! Cheers & best wishes to you from 'Down Under', mate...take very good care out there...Matt.
A sad and beautiful song that makes me tearfully miss the unique moment I had with my lady when it came on the radio by chance, and mourn the loss of the genius who created this masterpiece.
This song reminds me of a friend Graham Taylor who always liked this song very much. He could understand the words. Later he went to Switzerland and I never saw him again.
Well said and everything like all his Songs he's the King of Cool with every element indeed beats nearly everything the last 10,20 or even 30years since the 80s left.Swag performer still gets his Songs played on Radio respect
For those who care, and because some of you were talking about specific musicians, Robert is being backed by: the late Jack Waldman (keyboards); Chris Bishop (bass, keyboards); Alan Mansfield (guitar); and Michael Dawe (drums)
Craig I genuinely care who they are. Which of the two keyboardists is wearing glasses? It is painful to know that another of these men has passed. If you know who the musicians are playing with Mr. Palmer in others of his songs on TH-cam, would you identify them as well? Thank you!
Deb--I am relieved to know that...because one wouldn't generally get that impression by many people who upload videos. Yes, Chris Bishop is the one with the glasses. I have, actually, identified musicians in other Robert Palmer videos...but please let me know which videos you're specifically referring to. I am currently writing a biography of Robert Palmer, so I have spent a lot of time trying to correctly attribute musicians in both videos and photographs...if I'm stumped, I'll send the photos or clips to some of Palmer's closest confidants to see if they can recognize the players. Thanks for the message, Deb.
Craig, You have just become one of my heroes. Truly! Would you be willing to communicate with me other than through this comment section? There is so much I would like to share because we are trying to achieve something similar. I have been researching Mr. Palmer in hopes of writing a book on him but not a biography. I realized it is beyond my ability to write one. I have tried to find other ways to make it happen. Your note could not have come at a better time. Thanks so much, Deb
Deb--To highlight the synchronicity of your message, I'll start off with the concluding sentence from it: Your note could not have come at a better time. I don't care how it happens, but a book on Robert needs to be written--whether by 1 or 15 people--because it's several years overdue. I have been struggling for ten years to complete it, so I will welcome any and all help. You have piqued my curiosity and I am anxious to hear what you have in mind. Please contact me at craigciccone@sbcglobal.net and we'll go from there. Craig

Algo de lo mejor de los ochenta una canción diferente con el toque mágico del Sr Robert Palmer de cuerdos de mi adolescencia en las discotecas en México 🇲🇽👌🌹
Who would have thought how well this song would have aged. Still sounds otherworldly and fresh today. This is a really great live version. Seems almost Devo like and from me that is a huge compliment since Devo rule.
When this came out, NME gave it such a great review I ran out and bought the 12-inch and, yes, it's a sweet, sad song. I had gotten off the Robert Palmer train after his first four -- fantastic -- albums.
wow super amazing song this is music an altime classic i love robert palmers voice similar to chris rea the vocals and melodies and keyboard production the beat is incredible rip rb your music and lyrics will allways be rememberd thing aint wot they used to be all enjoy

This is a Side to R.P That I have never seen, Mr Style and Natural-Cool without a suit, playing the guitar and interacting with his bandmates, I am enjoying the Heck-Outta this Classic PALMER Footage. Wow!! The man is refreshing. I just wish I could have sat at a nice restaurant or private club and enjoyed a couple drinks with him, while chatting like friends about music and life. I hope no idiot ever walked up to him and addressed this authentic-original man and uttered "Nice to meet ya Bob..." You know how obtuse some folks can be, right? That's obvious.
My favorite thing he ever did, among many awesome things. His body movements and facial expressions got more exaggerated later, not that that's bad. Just a growth in showmanship.
For whatever reason.... Robert was under-appreciated as a musician of the 1980s. For me one of the best songs from that fantastic time.
Agree. Totally ahead of his time.
In Essence he had two careers. In the 70's he sang in a blues/rock band with Elkie Brooks called Vinegar Joe. Check them out.
Because he’s not trivial as artist
🎯 yessss fantastic times 🤝
One of the best songs ever...
Joachim Köck 👍🥂
Fucking best
No doubt

@lavielemond funny you should say all of that. I hate denim so I copied his style of dress sense and females loved it.
@@mickzammit6794 Haha, that doesn't surprise me in the slightest, mate!!
Nothing like a live band and zero fake instruments/sounds...this is priceless!! makes it feel like Robert still alive...RIP brother!!
Define fake instrument... Coz my grandpa would not count Synth as real instrument
@@ArsyaUtomo he might be talking about no samplers
but yeah, I'm tired of this arguments
there are plenty of bands nowadays who play just like that

Coming up on his 75th birthday, 19 January 2024. RIP Robert.
He went way too young. Such a pity he failed to listen to medical advice.
All the songs of Robert Palmer contain sincere messages and touch the heart. Nowadays there is no music like that😢
Where’s your suit, Robert? One of my favourite songs, and singers. Huge shock (and loss) when he died.
A sad and beautiful song that makes me tearfully miss the unique moment I had with my lady when it came on the radio by chance, and mourn the loss of the genius who created this masterpiece.
I just want to go back there …
me too please 🙏
this is not an easy song to do live and they are awesome! it sounds so amazing.10/10

Johnny and Mary einen wunderschönes Lied von einem wunderbaren Künstler schade dass er nicht mehr lebt😢😢
He had it all, funk/rock/blues/reggae/jazz; style and class in abundance.
His pitch and range are immaculate. Great style, great humour in his writing and phrasing.
Greatly missed! x
And a punk flavor.
Again, just simply, stunningly, beautiful!

My favorite Roberto Palmer song ................ greetings of Perú ...
Johnny's always running around
Trying to find certainty
He needs all the world to confirm
That he ain't lonely
Mary counts the walls
Knows he tires easily
Johnny thinks the world would be right
If it could buy truth from him
Mary says he changes his mind
More than a woman
But she made her bed
Even when the chance was slim
Johnny says he's willing to learn
When he decides he's a fool
Johnny says he'll live anywhere
When he earns time to
Mary combs her hair
Says she should be used to it
Mary always hedges her bets
She never knows what to think
She says that he still acts like he's
Being discovered
Scared that he'll be caught
Without a second thought
Running around
Johnny feels he's wasting his breath
Trying to talk sense to her
Mary says he's lacking a real
Sense of proportion
So she combs her hair
Knows he tires easily
Johnny's always running around
Trying to find certainty
He needs all the world to confirm
That he ain't lonely
Mary counts the walls
Says she should be used to it
Johnny's always running around
Running around
Great version of a brilliant song. Just builds and builds, no real crescendos.
