Bill my friend, I hope you’re feeling back to 100% soon. I’ve been watching this famous driveway of beautiful and sometimes novelty vehicles for over 3 or 4 years, when your bosses wife, the lovely and also funny in her own right, Maryanne, I believe her name is, would also review vehicles. As a matter of fact, she reviewed and test drove the w126 Mercedes Benz I bought from Autohause of Naples and had shipped to California. Me and Peter unfortunately exchanged a few unpleasant words about something trivial, an issue we would eventually work out in the end, so I have some experience in your circle.. I saw a few of your reviews and loved your style from the beginning and YOU were the reason I would purchase my first car, sight unseen and from another state! Intertwined in some of that rambling you give a a sense of sincerity. Believe it or not, I hear a lot of me in you, as I just turned 50 and I feel the same way you do on several fronts, it’s funny. So I’m familiar With every deep breath you take, I’m reminded of my own tenancy to do the same, to regroup my thoughts. I too am a rare animal like yourself who prefers cold and snowy over tropical and warm any day. I feel for ya. I lived in Philadelphia for 8 years so I’m familiar with the wet and uncomfortable humidity element. I just wanted to tell you to keep doing what you’re doing, you’re a mega wealth of information on the vehicles you review, that you earn the right to talk about the weather, animals, birds, Peter, Dalton and whiskey Corona hangovers for 10 minutes before you “dive into” the actual review.. absolutely.. Life’s too short, go to that cool place you so desire! In the meantime if Peter ever permits you to have an assistant, a camera guy, I’m your man! Keep it moving buddy..

I have two Jag VDP sedans..a 2001 and a 2002...the body style before this one. Love them both, and both are surprisingly reliable. Ford fixed a LOT of the Jag gremlins and should be commended for what they did during their tenure of owning the brand. I remember when the bodystyle showcased here was introduced in 2004...a lot of wags suggested that it looked like an upmarket Taurus and not a Jag. I believe this design is aging much better than anyone expected. Despite their flaws...there is NOTHING like a Jaguar, and I am thrilled every time I drive them.

*_"...it really looks like what a Jaguar is supposed to look like...."_*
    I agree, but---problem.
It seems other marques have always been 'allowed' by the buying public to keep a corporate shape or styling cues throughout their generations. Jaguar? Uh, uh---nope. When Jaguar stuck to its last traditional styling cues with this generation, it received criticism, both in the press (though not too much) but moreso from the public.
_"Not modern enough / Stuck in the past / Never anything new / Old man's car / etcetera..."_
So, Jaguar stylists came up with the totally new design for 2010, which conformed to the current stylistic trends. Problem: *It didn't 'look like' a Jaguar XJ.* I've been a Jaguar nut for decades, knowing full well that along with the advanced technology Jaguar (and Ford) came up with over the years, there was a certain 'laughable backwardness' with each new generation. (Can you say _'where are the features in an X300, 1995 XJ that Cadillac et al. have had since the early seventies?'_ )
    No real conclusion here.
~Should Jaguar have tried to incorporate a few tradional XJ styling bits in its (possibly) last XJ series ever?
~Would the usual Jaguar buyers have liked that and kept buying them?
~Did the new shape lure many new buyers? It seems not.
    ~Was the last XJ attractive?
~Was it distinct enough that it stood out from other brands and models? (Certainly not the XF---gads. A friend and I would joke _"Hey, that XF doesn't look too bad! Oh....it's a new Kia Optima. Darn. False alarm.")_
~Were potential buyers still put off by deep seated belief that Jaguars are unreliable? That never hurt Mercedes sales!
I don't know. What I believe is that without _any_ future XJ the automotive world got a bit blander and a bit less elegant.

My first post-college job was selling Jaguars in the DC area, circa 1993. I came across some demographic data on the “typical buyers,” which told a great tale. At the time, the average LS400 buyer had an Annual Household Income of ~$175K (340K today) with 3 cars, an S-Class buyer AHI was $195K (380K today) with 3 cars… but the Jaguar buyer had an AHI of $493K (962K today!!!) with 7 cars in the household. It really WAS true back then that despite a lower price than competition, people bought Jags *because they were Jags*! [I hated the dealer group, though, and left to become a corporate finance geek… I came full circle when I bought myself the new 2007 XK after years of MBs - Jags are special automobiles!]

Have had the 358 executive. 3ltr 2007 now got the 356 Daimler super v8 2006 LWB and love both cars, they drive loverly. My v8 has 400bhp which is plenty of power with a few mods can get 450 bhp allegedly but won’t be doing that. Like to keep them stock

    Insanely gorgeous!
But, Jaguar never converted anything - the coilovers on that car are a $1000 kit from Arnott - they sell a basic kit (this one) and an an upgraded kit for $1300 with eibach springs. Strutmasters makes a kit also.

Bill what has happened to the Jaguar brand of today? It seems like after this generation and the one before it they've fallen off a cliff in the domestic United States. I hardly see any of them on the road anymore and the local Jaguar dealer near where I live on Long Island was recently taken over by Maserati.

Nice car, Bill. This model is not at all the "dressed up Taurus" I initially thought it was. And indeed, the trunk is nice and deep, even if it is a little bit shallow.😄

Mine is the XJ6 in this colour and it’s absolutely insanely comfortable. A real freeway muncher. I get 29 mpg without too much bother. Thanks for the video Bill. You’re right in that it is the last classic jaguar shape. Now let me just say it is Jag-you-are. But I still love the way you say jagwaar. You’re the best mate.

The last old school elegant Jaguar which looks better with each year that passes.
I would have this in preference to the Mercedes, BMW or Audi equivalent, it has so much more class. Great car, great review.

Another good Bill video about another badcar. i owned a 2005 type S Jag, at 62K miles it was mechanically trashed. The maintenance is constant, repairs are very expensive, specialist mechanics are required. I bought mine new, it looked and handled great, but don't buy one without a warranty.
Hey Bill, were getting Tropical Storm Alex this weekend. Naples is supposed to get 8 nches of rain.
