Great video! A couple of thoughts: I’m very tiny, 4’11” 92lbs, and I *do* usually carry small bags to avoid looking like ‘Santa’s little helper.’ 😉 However, sometimes I need to carry a bag big enough to fit my larger iPad Pro (the size of a small laptop). I’ve found that large bags with a north/south, vertical profile dwarf me less than large bags that run east/west; at least they keep the eye focused on a vertical line, rather than cutting me in half visually. I’ve all but stopped buying knits are are fabric blends (unless it’s a bit of Lycra in thin fabric) because they usually pill easily and soon become trash. I’m focusing more on 100% merino and 100% cashmere. A stretch for my budget, but well worth it when considering how much longer those items will last. Blends also *cannot be recycled,* so they will eventually end up in a landfill. Also, a big “Thank you!” for reminding us *not* to be limited by the expectations and criticism of others! I am in my mid-sixties and found myself a bit lost, style-wise, about 10 years ago. With my children grown, and leaving my job, too, I suddenly felt as if I had lost my sense of who I was. I spent some time reassessing my wardrobe, what I felt inspired by, which looks just made me feel as if I’d disappeared, and then set out to reintroduce more fun and interest to my closet. Karen, you are so right. Big bags make women look frumpy. I noticed that when I watched Moda, Italy street style. I have to say this, you are the Queen of knowing how fashion works and you rock a look like no one else.
Can I add a tip similar to cutting the X at the bottom of blazers - please cut off the ribbons that come inside tops/jumpers that are used to keep them on hangers! Or at least make sure they are hidden when you wear them. Big pet peeve of mine - they instantly make an outfit look sloppy!
Some of us are allergic to wool. I still stay warm and just wear an underlayer and live in the northeast. The battery operated sweater de-pillers should be used gently on fabric. I unfortunately pressed too hard on a gorgeous sweater to take off a pill and the machine ate a hole through my gorgeous sweater. I think I am going to be creative and look for a beautiful patch of some kind and start a new trend.
The no-white-after-Labor-Day thing was started as a rule by one little snobby country club many decades ago. I don’t know how it blew up into a “rule”. I wear white all year-round and so does everyone else I know. The only time thus “rule” comes up is on fashion social media.
Lol! Yes grew up at a CC so snooty but fun! Love white all year round, obviously not linen. The old school rules are only good for manners not fashion!
"The vent wants to be free." 🤣🤣🤣 The one fashion suggestion that some people in America say in fashion articles every year that I dislike the most is "no white after Labor Day." Just added to my Amazon haul list is a lint roller and a clothes steamer. My favorite tip were the one about wearing fluffy sweaters with faux leather (great tip by the way) and the last one--wear whaterver you like and makes you feel confident. Great video--lots of fun!!!
I used to use depillers, but when I worked at the dry cleaner, we shaved sweaters with a razor which immediately took off all the pills.. Another thing we used was a wire toothed dog brush to comb Sherpa, faux fur, sometimes even sweaters. It really made them look great.
Hey K, I agree 100% wear white all year round. That's right cut the x off. Yes yes my daughter realized she can't do high heels being that she's flat footed and they are uncomfortable. She has found that the thick heal and a insole helps a whole lot. Very good video!

The wool percentage is important! I had a thin 100% Marino wool sweater that I wore for years doing long bike rides in the winter. Marino wool is machine washable! It kept me warm even when wet and speeding down hills! Love the faux croc boots, but I need lower heeled boots! I do wear a lot of black, gray and olive! It looks great with my skin tone! Love these suggestions. It’s still pretty warm here in California but the evenings are cooler. I have been upgrading to much better pieces and they make you feel so much better. You know you look good when you leave the house. So tired of seeing leggings on everyone. It feels like they are settling and not caring. That’s my pet peeve.
Same here in Colorado! Athleisure crap everywhere I go; even when I dare venture out to fine dining. Here, wearing a shoe vs say Chaco’s (a sandal, also worn to hike in 🙄) is dressing up, & I AM OVER IT!! Everyone looks exactly the same, as well as overly casual. I’m in official rebellion; I “dress” even to grocery shop or run to the wine store. It’s just TOO SAD to hv curated a beautiful closet (I’m in my 50s)-& let these lovely pieces hang, untouched. You’re right; you just feel BETTER w/ a nice/good quality jacket or pair of shoes/boots on! Viva la Good Clothes‼️❤️🔥🔥👍🏽 (I absolutely adore Karen-she’s inspirational !💕)
I so completely agree! I wear matching colourful Converse or platforms and always hats. Love this time of year for wearing blazers with jeans, ankle-length pants or skirts. All my clothes come from Thrift stores and I get many more compliments than I have in my life. Very uplifting for a 74-year-old and great fun! Never wear leggings.
@@annkat100 Ha! Do you live in Durango, by chance? 😂. Because that’s exactly what is going on here as well. Athleisure wear out all the time, and basically a casual/“I don’t care” look going on with both locals and tourists. A huge pet peeve of mine is seeing people dressed like slobs when they go into a nice restaurant! I’m also in my 50’s, and have a ton of nice clothes that I’ve usually purchased from the local thrift stores and often tailored to fit me better. Sadly, I don’t have much opportunity to wear them because the part-time job I have is in a small retail shop geared towards tourists where I’m sitting most of the time. But I always wear jewelry and nice jeans/shoes if nothing else 🤷🏻♀️. I do love being able to wear my lovely trench coat and ankle boots and cozy sweaters when it gets cooler (like now 😀).
I love your channel and your joy of clothes and fashion! My fave thing is when you discover a new outfit combo in real time!! You are so cute when that discovery occurs!!🤩😍
please...keep the grey boots, they are great with your jewel tone colors and brights. nice change from black. p.s. they loking amazing with your blue jacket you're wearing.
Literally had NO idea about the cross threads!!!! I've got a gorgeous baby pink, faux fur trim topshop trench and I haven't worn it much yet, but I also haven't cut the cross threads!! Literally doing it now hahaha :)
My mother used to use a little battery run de-piller. It was genius and her knitwear was so perfectly cared for it looked like it was part of a store display.
I watched the 3 part video on Sunday! I loved it! Handbag proportions are so important...I have to stay away from large and wide ones. As always good tips!!! Cheers!
I live by all of these rules. I am carefully curating my wardrobe now that my aesthetic has changed a bit. I'm spending a bit more on items like knits and outerwear, and accessories like bags and shoes. Last year I invested in a depiller, lint brush and a professional grade steamer. Some of my best Amazon purchases ever!
yea same on the knits I'm slowly weeding out the crap to invest in quality because they always stand up over time and agreed on the depillers etc. life savors!
@@KarenBritChick shoot, I'm trying to slowly weed out my entire wardrobe! I'm finding it hard to let go of things I love, but don't wear - especially if I paid a lot or it's a quality piece. My goal is to create "Quicha's Capsule Wardrobe" that is elevated and chic, but pared down from the volume of clothes I currently have. I'm trying to do better at repeat buying. Blazers, trench coats, denim and white shirts are my weaknesses.
Sunday video was shocked at how much you guys make makes sense now some of the English influencers that started in a one bed flat now living in 7 bedrooms 5 bathrooms mansions always wondered how they afford the huge switch and now thanks to you I know congratulations to you on everything you have achieved know it didn’t come easy stay safe stay beautiful ❤️
Thank you and yes I too see the progression for others in where they live. I wonder if any of them would make a video like this too and be transparent on income? I can understand that most won't and that goes for anyone actually in ANY INDUSTRY including the average Joe.
I can't believe you told us not to wear all black 😳🙈😎. I do agree that varying the textures is a good approach to all black. I'm afraid I can't listen to this advice Karen. I will put this past us 😂
Love the wool percentage tip! I’m always so cold that in fact I moved from Chicago for the first time (I’m 38 ) to live somewhere warmer but I find I still get chilly so I will be sure to look for wool this winter
Oh, please keep those boots gray, you can wear them with many other colors, including black or white. Black boots are always easy to find, gray not so much, and you do already have black tall boots. I don’t wear gray clothes much, but my gray boots are essential for many outfits. Plus, several of your bags have some gray in them, wear them together with blues, greens burgundy, pink, and other colors. It’s a great neutral and that light to medium tone works with darks or lights.
I have prescription sunglasses. They are a classic style and I do need the vision adjustment. So I am not able to really change out the glasses. I have a depiller. Works great and perks up my knits. I finally found a pair of black jeans that the cat hair doesn’t stick to! Thanks for the hints.
I used to wear a lot of black, because it was easy, and I already had a lot of black, so it didn't require a lot of thought. But the day came when someone asked me for the millionth time: "Are you feeling well? You look tired." And of course I was fine, and didn't feel tired until I ran into THAT person! lol But it was the black. Draining is the perfect word for what it does to me. So I quit. Now I NEVER wear black, but am happy in charcoals, blues, tans, grays and greens, and all of them suit me.
@@susanma4899 I think it's an undertone thing. My very fair, cool-undertone cousin looks great in black, but my undertone is neutral-ish, but maybe too peachy, and the black pulls all the blue tones under my eyes, etc. Not a good lewk!
Yeah those shavers are a necessary tool to keep your knits looking tip top condition. It funny that some sweaters are in the thrift shop and overlooked because of peeling. I buy them once they hit the dollar rack and put my lint shaver to it and looks like new. I would like to find a rechargeable one tired of having to look for batteries at inconvenient moments. I have started putting away my summer items and I hesitated on packing my white items just yet because I am wearing white after this labor day. I am hoping I can get back into my high heel boots. Still dealing with arthritis that develop from a foot injury last year, so trying to work it out. I going to try for keeping unexpected vibrant colors in my outfits this year to lighten my mood during deep Fall/Winter. Yeah that is why I thrift now because I can get great quality for a bargain prices. This is how I got my genuine leather pieces. Not investing in faux leather items again because they are not holding up to the wear or storage. You served it up good in this video. Thanks for sharing and blessing to you and all in the days to come
Off Whites used to be called Winter White. I love comfy tall boots with wedge heels. Love your blue blazer with black leather & tank. What of hooker boots with cozy sweater dresses? Shearling coats are virtually impermeable.
#4 - I’ve told at least four people (three random strangers and one colleague that I can remember) about the X thread in their jackets this southern hemisphere winter! I usually go with the “I love your new jacket. Do you realise the vent basting thread is still there?” approach.
In California we ignore the “ don’t wear white after Labor Day”. For one thing, in San Francisco we’ll have a heat wave late sept/early Oct and then we break out the whites! It just seems like a silly east coast thing.
A good trick to finding cashmere and wool is shop vintage actually! They used to use a lot more natural fibers in the 80's and 90's and most thrift stores are stocked up on wool coats and sweaters. Just check for moth holes :)

I agree with you! It's time to get out of those leggings and start dressing up again! ✨
Karen, Please tell people to cut the label off the sleeves on jackets, suit jackets, coats.
Happy to help! 💪🏾
Good ratio of wool in the winter is such a good tip, and also look to vintage as recently got a 90% wool St michael's M&S navy long peacoat for £25!
Free the vent... I agree!
Comfort is the way to go!
Neat, clean, smelling good, up to date and comfortable.
Found your channel from the Q&A collaboration you did with High Low Luxe and I'm loving your videos 🙌🏿 Also so glad your a brit living in New York X
Backstroke in the fashion pool! I love that, Karen
lolol me currently all Fall
My mother used to use a little battery run de-piller. It was genius and her knitwear was so perfectly cared for it looked like it was part of a store display.
Totally agree with pillers!!!
I watched the 3 part video on Sunday! I loved it! Handbag proportions are so important...I have to stay away from large and wide ones. As always good tips!!! Cheers!
Thanks for sharing!!
Love the tips, especially #11…I’ve always thought of myself as unique (even as a child) and I wear what I wanna!
“Wear what you want” 🙏
I can't believe you told us not to wear all black 😳🙈😎. I do agree that varying the textures is a good approach to all black. I'm afraid I can't listen to this advice Karen. I will put this past us 😂
LOL!!! I meant in the context of let's break out of it every so often. Trust me I too like an all black look every now and then : ))
The weather here is so crazy right now, I don’t know what to wear. I feel like we have light summer and summer. I really enjoyed your video😊😊😊
Yup cross thread frustration is a real thing
You cracked me up with cross on the vent 😃😃. I did that a few times only because my behind protruded too much so I left it crossed lol.
Coming back after a social media break and... Are you doing something different with your editing now? It's very professional. I love it.
I have different editors I think each has their own style?
@@KarenBritChick Whatever you and the editors are doing, keep doing it! ❤️ Looks great and keeps true to your brand.
I live wool coats but I live in the south. Its too hot n humid here to wear it. The coldest maybe 50 in the morning then 80 in the afternoon
Love the wool percentage tip! I’m always so cold that in fact I moved from Chicago for the first time (I’m 38 ) to live somewhere warmer but I find I still get chilly so I will be sure to look for wool this winter
Loved your video....on being an influencer....fun, practical ...as always great. Thank you
Oh, please keep those boots gray, you can wear them with many other colors, including black or white.
I TOTALLY AGREE!
Gray and Carmel.
So many relevant points. Actually I have bought a lot of vintage wool and cashmere coats and sweaters. They are so good.
A video on what types of boots to invest in! I need help in that department 🙏🏻
Such good advice and such fun! I'm completely with you on the wool and investing in coats and boots in the cold.
I love wearing white and cream year round
LOL!!! The stitches and the labelsI hate that!
I feel the same. I wore black for years, but now that I am older I think it washes me out. I try not to wear it next to my face.
@@susanma4899 I think it's an undertone thing. My very fair, cool-undertone cousin looks great in black, but my undertone is neutral-ish, but maybe too peachy, and the black pulls all the blue tones under my eyes, etc. Not a good lewk!
charcoals are STUNNING in Fall and winter!!!!
Amen on no white after Labor Day! I live in Louisiana. It’s almost summer all year long!! Haha! Wear that white!
Thanks for sharing and blessing to you and all in the days to come
I agreed with wearing white, I always have and always will, I make my own fashion rules.
Off Whites used to be called Winter White.
I love comfy tall boots with wedge heels.
Love your blue blazer with black leather & tank.
What of hooker boots with cozy sweater dresses?
Shearling coats are virtually impermeable.
Hi, it drives me crazy to see the threads left on the back of the coat as well as the designer label on the sleeve. Ugh. Thanks for the video.
Love this😍👏🏾👌🏾 great tips and suggestions ‼️💯
Omg you look so good in that shade of blue!!! Ahhh so good!!
Bravo! Great tips Karen. Love the blue jacket and top!
Those gray boots would look lovely with your blue blazer and Gucci monogram bag.
#4 - I’ve told at least four people (three random strangers and one colleague that I can remember) about the X thread in their jackets this southern hemisphere winter! I usually go with the “I love your new jacket. Do you realise the vent basting thread is still there?” approach.
Good way to tactfully say it
In California we ignore the “ don’t wear white after Labor Day”. For one thing, in San Francisco we’ll have a heat wave late sept/early Oct and then we break out the whites! It just seems like a silly east coast thing.
You're so right, your style is your style. Everyone want get it and that's ok....
FREE THE VENT !!!! I agree
