  • We hope you find our video on megapixel comparison useful. It demonstrates the difference in resolution between cameras at 1 megapixel to 8 megapixels. The cameras used were all made by Hikvision.
    The car is about 20M from the camera, which is mounted on the top of the first floor. The lens on the camera is a 2.8-12mm set to about 3.5-4mm.

    it also depends on sensor quality, sometimes a better and big sensor with lower megapixels has far better quality than a higher megapixels. Ex: Canon 1dx mark III has only 20 megapixels and no smartphone in the market gets closer to it , even with a crop image(digital zoom)

    Optical zoom would be very effective here. With this camera position, a great lot of pixels are wasted on the building left, sky and building in distance. With a small amount of optical zoom, you would get an improvement equivalent to doubling the MP.

    The resolution only needs to be good enough to read the license plate & recognize the car make and model and color. Twenty years ago there were lots of digital cameras made by Canon, Kodak, Nikon, and Fuji that only had between 2 and 4 megapixels but had really good picture quality. Notice the big jump in image quality from 1mp to 4mp in this video😀

    how can this be an actual comparison between these DIFFERENT cameras??.. The car movement is EXACTLY the same in each "new" recording, so it looks like the video was recorded ONCE (and just played over and over again - so NOT different "takes" of the different models - in which, normally, at each time the new test recording was taken, the car would have to make a new drive-in...). Also the camera's position (and angle of view) is ALSO exactly the same, so one camera could not have been substituted for the next one in line for testing either.. Also, a 5MP camera has a 4:3 aspect ratio, while a 2MP, a 4MP and a 8MP camera has a 16:9 aspect ratio... But in all these different "trials" you show for all the above ("different") cameras, the aspect ratio remains the same (16:9) lol, which is also impossible (since when you were showing the "5 MP" view, the screen's aspect ratio WOULD have changed to 4:3, so it would look more "squared", but, it doesn't do that in your video either...). So it doesn't seem like this is an real comparison at all. :(

      This looks like one camera-wide view setting with 8mp capability. The comparison looks like is true base on how resolution work. I can get a 2mp camera with a different lens and it will look completely different. So to compare megapixels you have to use the same camera. The different cameras will have different lense different qualities. If you want a wide view and capture as much detail as you could get the max resolution camera could. If you just want detail in a single spot like a license plate, then just get the zoom 2mp and zoom in one spot and it works better than 12mp. The long optical tele-zoom lens is way more expensive than all these high megapixels.

    megapixels are not needed. The quality depends on the size of the matrix

    This is ridiculously misleading. There are a lot of professional cameras that cost thousands and have 8mp and less, yet they don’t shoot cctv quality. You have to take in many factors, and sometimes fewer mp is better.

    I don't see much difference between 1MP and 8MP, only the price. 8MP is 4K, right?

    I think one KEY detail is with the size of the lens the test/video was done, they did it with 3.5-4mm. I got a 8MP camera with 2.8mm lens and the image captured is not better than the one of 1MP of the video.

    • @kanarie93
      @kanarie93 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      object distance vs focal length of the lens. Its % of the total image that matters. If you use a 2.8 at the same distance then no, it will not be better then their 4mm at the same distance due to the zoomed in image of the sensor due to= the lens. But your 2.8 8MP will be better then the same 2.8 2MP image

      What about the DISTANCE, was it the same as in the video?
      Also, VERY IMPORTANT: are you using a brand camera or some no-brand, because no brand cameras falsely advertise their resolution - I'd had a supposedly 2MP no-brand camera, and its actual resolution was 640x360 (0.23MP!!) instead of 1920x1080 (2MP).

    3MP sharper than 4MP? You need to tuning the focus.
