Now there is an edjucated and well thought out response if I've ever seen one. Congratulations on impressing us all with your immense wit and intellect.
@BunkLite What happened was Nixon let Spiro Agnew head a commission to decide what to do next, including human Mars mission, lunar base, or shuttle/space station, and they went for the latter.
@BunkLite he actually wanted to go to Mars, but MIT professor (later deputy NASA administrator) Robert Seamans had to convince him it wasn't possible, but flights to the Moon would be.
Very rare shot of a actual Mercury escape tower in action,,then if you look closely, quickly, right at the top,,you get the parachute "pop" that you seen in the other vintage clips,,and the movie.
@joshatkins94 (2/2) The problems with Mercury kept Kennedy interest tepid, fearing it was just a public relations nightmare. Instead he went on as a social program proponent and had little interest in the space program beyond its 'slogan' value for months into his term, until he was convinced of its political expediency and made his 1961 'Special Message" speech. ie. Kennedy was a POLITICIAN. His interest was political and his speech was driven by politics.
lol This Apollo on Steroids video was made 3 years ago, longer than it took to build and fly the first Apollo. Hopefully, they will cancel this White Elephant before more money and time are wasted. I really like the old 50s and 60s rocket blowing up vids. Since NASA has regressed to the mid 60s it seems appropriate.

A Democratic president initiated the Apollo program, a Republican president cancelled it.
