the black ess kit stove for the trangia is Swedish, the green mess kit is either German or Polish, I have a Polish mess kit that is very similar to that one
The black part is the stand+windshield, the green alumn pot+lid is the Swedish mess kit. There's also a stainless-steel version (I got one), but it is rare to find nowadays. Inside the pot rests an alcohol burner. Any type will do, but the original Swedish one (3 crowns stamped in) is hard to beat. The combo is a storm-proof cooking setup that's outright phenomenal, albeit not ultralight. The German mess kit looks similar, but has no stove nor stand. I got both and have used them extensively outdoors. The Swedish kit is in my family van during wintertime, together with bottled water and dry instant soups.

@@Pygar2 Confirmed. I got off Active Duty Army in 2012. I stopped shopping surplus stores in the metro Atlanta area because they don’t discount surplus items. The few that did discount went out of business years ago. The biggest was Hodge Army/Navy; in biz for 65 years +. And their prices are ridiculously high.
Any recommendations for good online surplus stores?
Buying used boots or shoes is not a good idea, especially if they are already broke in, as they can damage your feet. Hahn's is a great shop and I go there often as it is only 20 minutes from my from my home.
Help!
Can anyone suggest a good online surplus
Store. Only found 1 and it wasn't that good.
I envy having easy access to such there's a bunch of poser stores in Canada X.X
I BOUGHT ME A POLISH GASMASK FROM EBAY
What’s the best military surplus store online that you know of?
Coleman's is where I buy.
They have a good selection.
And their prices are good too.
Avoid Sportsman's Guide. They're known to send knockoffs.
@@Pygar2 Confirmed. I got off Active Duty Army in 2012. Purchased something off sportsman's guide, I believe it was a piece of ECWICS gear I couldn't find in my size anywhere else and it was a complete knockoff. I emailed them & sent it back. There's actually more knockoff's than I thought out there. I had to be very selective on ebay and request photos of labels & such after getting burned there as well. Luckily I've got most of what I need now.
Charleys Surplus out of Chicago is very good, I’ve been trading with them for a long time.
@Iridium242 What surplus stores do you use and which ones are reliable?
Hey just found your channel, the boonie hat has loops for inserting camoflage they are not molle they were fitted on the british hats many many years before molle was a thing 👌 and the german helmet you have there are awesome but I'd like to point out that america copied the german helmet many years later, the germans were useing those style helmets in WW1. The americans who fort in WW1 European theater wore the brodie helmet issued to the british and later around 1917 made their own version of the tomny helmet called the M1917 👍🇭🇲🤠
Hey Iridium242 I Just found your video. I live in Kingman ,AZ. about 100 miles from Vegas but we don't have any Surplus Stores here . Do you have the address of the Hahns Surplus you mentioned ? I have to go to the V.A. Hospital and the Air Field there soon to get my Wife's Retired Dependent card renewed pretty soon and would like to check the store out.
Yes its 2908 E Lake Mead Blvd, North Las Vegas, NV 89030
when you said adding magazines to the boonie hat, you did mean cartridges right? seems like loaded magazines would be hard on the neck
Are all c-rations gone?
In my time in prepping since around 1998 I have yet to see any
In the 70's you could buy surplus ammunition, bayonets, dummy grenades, and all kinds of cool stuff you don't see anymore...
Rip mate, deeply sad about your passing

Only local surplus store thinks everything is made of gold and wants its weight in gold for everything.
I recently went through my medical gear.. My fiberglass casting/ splinting supplies had all aged out.. Passed exp date. They got rock hard. Worthless..
Check your exp dates.. My advice with meds. Any antibiotics... Toss them after exp date. Any other meds useually last year's ..
Boonies are the bomb
Didn't get a look at your discount tag to get extra discount
you dont need a discont just use my link PLUS his already discounted type
Black dye.. on the cammo changes things alot.. for the better and it doesn't look so military.. still shows cammo pattern but definitely different.. less likely to get vets aggravated...
I'm a vet so I know the things that piss me off.. like Mr special forces eod tradoc comand Sargent major general black ops delta force comando Para forward observer ranger with his dd214 redacted to the point it shows he was latrine specialist and his 2alpha was misplaced by certain superiors..
But he has several purple hearts mov's silver stars that he can't wear because his missions are still top secret.. won't be and jail very long because he has a special number to call...
So yeah black dye.. works well.. some things are quick some take time..
I was actually going to try some brown rit dye, I wanted more of a woodland color for out here in the desert more sand color but darker
Rit is what I use.. I find having the articles pre wet works better.. more even..
@@Iridium242 There is another TH-camr who demonstrated using acorns, by boiling them, to die ACU gear a much more natural Woodland color
@@joehadenough1642 lol thats funny, I just watched that video the other day and that is what gave me the idea for the brown color cus it looked so cool, I may try the acorns too
👍
Or the American helmet is a copy of the German helmet
