For me he’s been the real man of the match of the 2012 UCL final. Drogba obviously had his two crucial moments but he also caused that penalty in extra time. Cech however was the one who saved that penalty and additionally saved two more during the shootout and stopped countless attempts during the 120 minutes. He even went the right way for every single one of the penalties he faced that game. Even though he didn’t keep a clean sheet this is still the most impressive goalkeeper performance I have ever seen in a UCL final in my opinion.

Cech was my childhood hero. Even though a brazilian with many role models in the 2000s, something about him caught my attention at a very young age, as I always wanted to become a keeper.
I'd known about Cech's injury, but I'd never seen the X-ray or photograph of the damage that the collision caused. But I know that when I was younger and just starting to learn more about world football, the tier list started at Petr Cech and went down from there. There was just an aura about him. And even at that time, Cech's reputation was still such that seeing something like that catch him off-guard made you go "That was the most insane goal ever."
Man it's absolutely MENTAL. Even thought he could've died and had a big disadvantage he still proved how good he was and that he was one of the best keepers of all time in not just one, but TWO sports!!! 👏👏👏

I remember this quite vividly. I didn’t often watch the premier league but i happened to flip to the channel at the end of this game to witness the injury. When i saw John Terry come in as goalkeeper i was hoping that the other team would get an opportunity, because i was curious to see how well Terry could do in goal lol. But they didn’t end up really getting any chances to shoot at him
We will never get a goalkeeper as good as Cech for Chelsea. We thought Courtouis would be the next Cech, until he left us for Real Madrid. No one can replace him, My childhood was blessed watching Cech in goal, Terry in defense, Lampard in midfield and Drogba up front. We miss that squad and Cech dearly 🥲 Thank you for covering this topic Raymar 💙
It was clear from the start Courtois was an egomaniac who would never stick with Chelsea if a "better" offer came up. He had no true respect for Petr Cech and got ofended by Chelsea when they loaned him to Atletico Madrid for the second time threatening he would not sign another contract with them if they won't make him no.1 next year, knowing full well because of his potential this would lose Chelsea huge deal of money. Only after Petr stepped aside and supported him as no. 1 in Chelsea he started to speak well of him. What a hyena.

oh dont worry, Cech is really good the Cech before that concussion could be much better obviously Courtois will never reach Cech from 04-06 even at his peak but its a shame about Schmeichel since he moved away at his peak plus Schmeichel style of playing is different, he's the one of the first modern GK when he uses all parts of his body to block the ball the eccentric type while Petr Cech is literally both even before the injury. while VDS was unlucky imo at most part of his career him getting replaced by Buffon is one thing but moving for Fulham when United was calling was another after all, it's widely known that united have butter fingers Barthez, shaky Howard and Crazy Roy Carrol before his eventual move to United although i would say he's really a great servant for fulham.
