with the seek if you double tap your split screen, on the phone picture side you can adjust the picture to match the thermal shot. You can also size it with 2 fingers pinch.
What is not mentioned at all is that while the FLIR can focus under about 12 inches, the SEEK is 1 meter minimum so if you need the device to look at close up objects like electronics troubleshooting FLIR is the only choice. FLIR can also be powered and used at the same time so if you carry a backup battery it can work for both your phone or the FLIR camera, which can use the aux battery with a cable .
Seek should make a graphic interface so you could adjust the overlay on your phone either by moving one picture to fit with the other using the touchscreen or by letting you input a numerical value on how much one picture needs to be moved to fit with the other.
I purchased the seek compact pro over the flir one for one specific reason: no battery. I only use the tool probably once every couple of months and I never know when I'll need it. The problem with the flir one is that unless you always keep it charged, it'll never be ready to use when you need to use it.
@@wiredforstereo Yep, we've had two Flirs show up bricked, a 3rd bricked itself with parasitic battery drain that kills the internal li-ion battery beyond a state of rechargeable.
The FLIR seems to be a very practical choice, but the Seek is a perfectly sensible choice with a lot of contrast. I'm still waiting for these things to be made so they are clamped to the phone rather than plugged. The charge connectors aren't robust enough.
I use a cheap [2.5USD] 1meter extender cable here (first picture in this post) to have it attached to an microscope stand when doing macro with the Seek pro.. www.eevblog.com/forum/thermal-imaging/thermal-imaging-gallery/msg1649522/#msg1649522 Works great and hundreds of way you could attach it afterwards with an extender cable.. if you'r doubtful about the connection with direct input...
Great comparison! I appreciate you running through the various performance aspects and not just focusing on the extendable connector like everyone else does.
Todd M AWFUL FLIR experience: I had the FLIR one and the refresh rate was so painfully slow (always freezes, really annoying) and the battery dramas (it always run out of battery for no reason), the overlay doesn’t really align properly and doesn’t work in darker environment. I normally don’t criticise anything but this was a VERY FRUSTRATING I was very unhappy with my FLIR One, sold it cheap and I may go Seek PRO next. I am happier having nothing at the moment than having something so frustrating that makes me angry every time I turn on and TRY to use.
I don’t have the kind of money to buy any of this but I saw it in a advertisement and I’m now gonna watch a hours worth of phone mounted thermal camera reviews
My Flir One Pro will charge and work as a camera at the same time. I used the cable and wallwart from my Note 8 to charge the Flir One. This did not pass a charge through to the Note 8 though. Then I stuck a wireless charger to the Note 8 and now it is possible to record indefinitely. You will probably still need some programming and some way to move the content off the phone.

The short freezing every few seconds is normal. It is for calibration, there is a black calibration shutter than covers the sensors and calibrates it to known temperature and flat field. Then it restarts and continues. Even on high end hand held devices costing 10000$ it does that. But I do agree the frame rate looks a bit low. It is not a problem in most of applications, especially if you it has high resolution. But it is a bit annoying. I recommend having small tripod and bracket for holding a phone. Then all the movements are gone, and it makes it a bit nicer expirience, even with low framerate. Plus high resolution and high frame rate devices are export controlled (dual use as they could be used in military stuff like self guided rockets etc).
I had the seek xr and got rid of it and brought a flir one pro. mosley for the file format. dont reallt feel like i can trust any of them more than indicators.
Great review. well presented. The presentation speed was good. If people want to speed up the review that is fine to go through the presentation, but I think the slower speed alllows me to absorb and think about what was shown.
Seek Thermal Compact series cameras can be used for a lot longer because they use the phone’s battery (which usually has a multi-hour battery life). You also don’t have to go through the whole process of charging it up each time you want to use it for a while.
If you're going to talk about seeks app you should learn how to use it. On split screen you double tap the picture then pinch to size and line the picture up with the thermal image.
I'm here to look at comparisons for paranormal investigations. The refresh rate difference can make a quality difference for that. The image quality and definition on the seek looks better. We just want to see accurate images with temp differences when we investigate. Also my phones have extended batteries in the case. 👍 However, auto focus is probably a must for what I do. Also with the flir, I have small battery packs I can plug in.
My seek compact pro had a pretty large temperature deviation, I returned it and ordered a new one. Again big deviations. up to 9C. but once you know it's fine. To bad it had micro usb, and my new phone has usb. C. a simple adapter didn't work. Hopefully I can find a cable for it.
I ordered Flir when he said it has internal battery. When I received it he said seek has a higher resolution so I returned Flir and was happy using Seek until he said Flir has MSX. I then decided to watch the whole thing.
@@bfr6109 Used it with no issues. luckily no battery drain problem for me. Charge level stays stable when its off. Did not use it much though. I always buy these geek things with an excitement and use it first few days until they go in storage :(
OK these are great for seeing heat in an electrical panel, but what about using it to see inside walls before drilling? Will either one of these look inside the wall to show studs, pipes, or wires I might be drilling into?
Depending on some specifics, thermal imaging can be used to show you what is behind walls. That said, the technology only shows the surface temperature, so whatever you're attempting to detect needs to create a temperature difference. Some materials are better conductors than others, and insulation will inhibit any signal. A hot water line may be visible, but a cold water line is likely not detectable with thermal imaging.
I’m an Electrician, I’ve been using the FLIR pro for a while and it’s a great tool. If you load up a circuit you can clearly see it through the gyprock, you can also identify neutrals this way. Radiant heating pipes are very easy to identify. Bad splices light up like a Christmas tree. And depending on the temperature difference between two rooms the studs will stand out very clearly. It’s been a lot more useful than I thought it would be.
@@skyetube1 That's very useful to know. I'm probably going to go with the Flir Pro. Sure, it doesn't update the screen quite as fast, or have the higher res sensor, but properly overlayed sensor fusion more than makes up for that. I was worried about the sensitivity, but if you're spotting pipes and wires, that'll be enough for most uses.
I owned and regrettably sold a Seek for a Flir ... Even without the 15hz refresh the Seek had the better picture while moving around. I found the Flir only superior when you mount it to a tri-pod or just hold it looking at one spot 3-6 ft away. For those of use who walk around and search areas, the seek was remarkably better. Now with the 15hz refresh I am going to buy a new Seek pro.
Does the Flir one has to be attached to the iphone or can be use with a lighting wire extension? Lets say I want to use the thermal under a dashboard while I have the iphone in a confortable position away from the Flir one pro?
Yes - it is possible to use FLIR ONE Pro with a lightning extension cable. That said, for your application, you should keep in mind that this camera has a limited sight range. FLIR says that under good conditions, FLIR ONE Pro can detect a person at about 40m (130ft) away.
Perhaps the most important comparison: COST? 1) Do both units have the ability to manually set the min and max temp for the contours? Let's say I'm looking at a large object and want to see the distribution of temps when the range is only 100* F. 2) Measuring Temps: I believe the FLIR has multiple cursors that can be positioned, what does the SEEK have? 3) Analyzing Saved Pics & Videos: Sounds like the FLIR has a suite of apps for this - what do they COST? (SEEK has nothing, correct.)
Hello, Nofer! You can easily compare the cost, features, and benefits of both units here: FLIR ONE Pro: bit.ly/32CcKU9 Seek Compact Pro: bit.ly/3n9OZfW To answer some of your questions, both units have free app software, both of which can be used to adjust temperature ranges and set to specific parameters. Tks Devan for this great video. As a handyman looking for water damage at my clients’ house, which 2021 model would best answer my needs? Tks in advance for your help.
For professional users, we generally don't recommend these smartphone-based cameras but it really comes down to your preference. If you're ok using your phone as your camera all day then these are good budget options. Just be aware that Seek has no reporting software of any kind while FLIR comes with the excellent FLIR Tools reporting software - if you need to make reports, go with FLIR. For your needs, we recommend either the FLIR C5 or Seek ShotPro as affordable professional options - check out our comparison here: th-cam.com/video/s-fEjPCFU1A/w-d-xo.html
Hello! The United States strictly regulates the export of thermal imagers. Feel free to review our export compliance laws here: www.tequipment.net/service/export-compliance/ If you have any further questions feel free to contact us via phone, email, or Live Chat here: www.tequipment.net/service/contact/
For that application, go with Seek Compact Pro because it has higher resolution. Check it out on our site here: www.tequipment.net/Seek-Thermal/CompactPRO-iOS/Building-and-Industrial-Thermal-Imagers/
Both cameras work well outdoors but neither is really intended for hunting use, they are more suited to home inspection, auto repair, and HVAC. That said, the Seek Compact Pro does have an advertised maximum range of 1,800ft. FLIR ONE Pro doesn't have a maximum range published but it should be similar. We have a broad range of sporting/hunting thermal optics in a similar price range as these cameras - you can find them here: www.tequipment.net/Sporting-Hunting-Law-Enforcement-Optics/thermal-monoculars/#/sporting-hunting-law-enforcement-optics/thermal-monoculars/?F_Sort=3
It depends on what you want the most. Seek has higher resolution but it doesn't have image blending or reporting capability like FLIR does. FLIR has lower resolution but it does have MSX. The other consideration is battery - the FLIR has an internal battery with 1hr life but the Seek uses your phone battery, so it might last longer if your phone is fully charged.
Thanks for the good and complete comparison video, I need to buy one of these cheap thermal cameras, for inspections in my house, tubes, etc... So as I understood, for private use Seek is better also for resolution and details. Another ask, do you suggest for me also the Seek, not the pro version? or it's very different in performance?
The Seek Compact Pro is probably a good choice for you since it has higher IR resolution and you don't need the extra FLIR features like reporting in FLIR Tools. For using it at home, you might be alright with the base Seek Compact - this camera has 206x156 IR resolution compared to 320x240 on the Compact Pro. That said, we do recommend going with higher resolution if you can afford it since this will give you better images. You can check out both cameras on our site via these links. Seek Compact: www.tequipment.net/Seek-Thermal/Compact-iPhone/Building-and-Industrial-Thermal-Imagers/ Seek Compact Pro: www.tequipment.net/Seek-Thermal/CompactPRO-iOS/Building-and-Industrial-Thermal-Imagers/
It's now June 2019...The Seek is now available with a USB-C connector, so you can reverse the camera direction to take thermal selfies, just like you can with the IOS version with the lightning connector, the problem with USB bandwidth is no longer an issue as the USB-C connector allows for a much larger bandwidth, and the best bit is the Seek is at least £100 cheaper than the Flir One! Pass's price for the Seek Thermal Compact Pro is about £270...Even on ebay the cheapest Flir one is about £380...So now it's a no brainer!
so you could 3D print a holder for the SEEK and attach it closer to the phone camera. (and use an extension cable to connect) I think I will do that. - 10:00. look at the ORANGE area from the Flir image. it looks like its warm there but on the SEEK it is not. a little bit misguiding, due to the lower sensitivity of the Flir (not good)
Your idea for a camera holder is great! We'd love to see it once completed. As for sensitivity, we filmed this video just before FLIR increased the ONE Pro's sensitivity via firmware update to 70mK - this means the sensitivity is actually the same for both cameras. The issue you bring up at 10:00 is likely due to the different color palettes being used on each camera. I would say that the FLIR is actually showing a more accurate thermal picture there since most breakers would be slightly warm and you can clearly see some variation between them thanks to the bright orange - on Seek, all but the warmest breakers appear dark purple and it's difficult to see which ones are warmer/colder.
I bought the FLIR, but the Seek Compact Pro has 4X the resolution and 2x the refresh rate. The only thing FLIR has going for it is the visual camera overlay. Also, you can hook up a USB-C power plug to run the FLIR while its being used and run longer than 45 minutes.
Very good comparison test, Thanks for doing it. I was looking at the Flir one pro. After watching this still leaning that way. Especially when hearing you can save files.
For that application we would recommend the Seek Compact Pro simply because it has higher resolution. That will be beneficial when looking at small components on a PCB. You also probably won't need the extra features included on the FLIR ONE Pro. Check it out on our site here: www.tequipment.net/Seek-Thermal/CompactPRO-iOS/Building-and-Industrial-Thermal-Imagers/
What is the file format on the seek photos? I like the seeks better for data accuracy but still don't understand the comments on the reporting. Do the pictures not save to the phone in a common format?
The Compact Pro will output radiometric JPG image files that can be viewed on any PC. The files contain temperature data, but can be viewed just like any other JPG image. The comments on reporting concern actual reporting software. The ONE Pro includes its own image analysis software from FLIR which makes it easy to analyze all temperature data and create reports for clients. The Compact Pro does not include any reporting software. You'll have to find a third-party alternative if you want to analyze and report the data from those images.
I'm curious, if the goal is to do some thermal inspection for my own house(so no report or so), what would be the best choice? I feel that the increased resolution of the seek doesn't do much goods here, but I heard that FLIR where voluntarily decreasing the video quality since an update to encourage people to buy their more expensive products.
Hello! Both work well for home inspection, but depending on your application you might pick one over the other. Currently, the FLIR is cheaper than the Seek Thermal Compact Pro (although this is subject to change), and the FLIR unit works well at close distances with its minimum focus distance of 0.15m and 0.3m for thermal and MSX, respectively. The MSX also helps with finer details if you're working with something that has labels, a lot of wires, etc., while the Seek Thermal Compact Pro needs just under 1m to focus. If you are looking more broadly at walls, checking insulation, etc., than the Seek Thermal Compact Pro might be better due to it's higher IR sensor. We hope this helped and if you have anymore question you can reach out to our product specialists here: www.tequipment.net/service/contact/
If your device is under warranty, FLIR will replace/repair it at their discretion. The warranty for the FLIR ONE Pro is 2 years parts and labor coverage on the camera and 10 years coverage on the IR detector. We cannot comment on repairability but it's safe to say that doing this will void your warranty. That said, if your warranty has expired, there are unofficial third party repair guides available online.
There is no manufacturer recommended way to accomplish this because both cameras require a smartphone connection and their associated mobile apps to function. That said, there are other thermal cameras which do allow streaming to a PC while in use - check out this budget option from FLIR which supports video streaming via USB cable: www.tequipment.net/FLIR/C2/Building-and-Industrial-Thermal-Imagers/
Seek Compact has higher resolution than FLIR ONE Pro LT and it's cheaper on our website, so that is probably the better buy. Check out both on our website below. i thint, can make a special frame to fix the camera on safe place, using a cable for more security with usb crashes etc., can use a smal cord, or mandatory use direct phone ?
The camera doesn't have to be directly connected to the phone's input jack - you can use an extension cable to have the camera at a distance from your phone.
WebMagrinho some of the units still have connectivity issues. Of the two Flir Pro's, both had battery issues within 6 months and one of the two had usb-c connectivity issues. Returned them for the stand alone version, FLIR C2 and it has worked out wonderfully so far. So much that we have now purchased 4.
The latest model actually has an adjustable Lightning adapter built-in which you can extend/retract to fit perfectly with almost any iPhone case. FLIR calls it the OneFit adjustable connector. Check it out here: www.tequipment.net/FLIR/OnePro-iOS/Building-and-Industrial-Thermal-Imagers/
The CompactPro has higher resolution so it should be able to pick up temperature details from farther away. It also has a narrower field of view, meaning the images will appear more "zoomed in" than on the ONE Pro. We would recommend CompactPro if detection range is your biggest concern.
I have a drone, from DJI, I found something regarding using these cheap thermal cameras to put on board of it but very difficult, Do you think I could use a little smartphone to put together on the drone in your opinion?
In theory yes, you could rig something up but it would definitely require a bit of fabrication/hacking to make it all fit and work together. Also be aware of the drone's maximum payload limit. You would have to make sure that adding the phone and camera would not exceed that limit.
FLIR does include software but we can't confirm that it has this function. Seek definitely cannot do this as it does not include software. Please contact us via phone at (877) 571-7901, email Sales@tequipment.net, or live chat on www.tequipment.net and our thermal cameras experts will help you.
Certain thermal imaging cameras are restricted for export outside the USA by the US Dept of Commerce. The level of restriction typically depends on the camera's frame rate. The ONE Pro is generally not restricted because its frame rate is 8.7Hz. The Compact Pro will be subject to increased restrictions due to its 15Hz frame rate. Our experts are well-versed in these rules - if you have more questions, feel free to call us at (877) 571-7901 or email SalesTeam@tequipment.net
I've read that the lightning plug can be manually adjusted/extended on the FLIR so that you can plug it in and use it with a protective case on your smart phone. How does that compare to the Seek in that regard? Is the Seek usable with, for example, an Otterbox case on an i-phone?
The FLIR should work perfectly with most cases because of the built-in adjustable connector. Seek Compact PRO does not have any accommodation for phone cases built into the unit. From Seek's website: "Some thicker smartphone cases (especially ruggedized ones) do not provide enough clearance around the connection port. To use the camera you must either remove the case, or attach the camera using an extender/adapter." See this link from Seek: support.thermal.com/hc/en-us/articles/206237876-USB-Adapters-for-Seek-Compact
Both cameras will be able to effectively detect leaks, moisture, and missing insulation behind standard drywall. The best one for you comes down to what you need the most. If you need to do reports for your clients, we recommend FLIR ONE Pro since it comes with the excellent FLIR Tools reporting software. FLIR also has MSX technology (like image blending) which gives you some visual details in the images for more context - Seek doesn't have any feature like this. Seek also doesn't have a good way to do reporting. The biggest reason to get the Compact Pro is the camera's higher IR resolution vs the ONE Pro.

Hello, I have the Flir C2 and HTI HT-09. C2 is good, but a little slow. HTI good, but no firmwares updates. I want another to help me to repair electronic circuits. Can you give me any advice, please? Do you think that HTI make goods devices? A lot of thanks.
We do not carry HTI and are not familiar with this brand. We recommend Seek Thermal or FLIR due to proven performance and strong product support. The Seek Shot and ShotPRO might work for your application. Also keep an eye out for the new FLIR C5 which was just announced today. www.tequipment.net/Seek-Thermal/Shot/Building-and-Industrial-Thermal-Imagers/ www.tequipment.net/Seek-Thermal/ShotPRO/Building-and-Industrial-Thermal-Imagers/
It depends on your specific needs. If you only care about the resolution, go with Seek Compact Pro - it has higher resolution than FLIR ONE Pro. If you want other features like visual/IR image blending and a robust analysis software, then go with FLIR - neither of these important features are found on Seek Compact Pro.
The Compact Pro has higher IR resolution than the ONE Pro, but the Compact Pro doesn't have any image blending capability. On the ONE Pro, you get powerful FLIR MSX which adds a high level of detail to thermal images so you can really see what you are looking at. For seeing tiny components on a motherboard, you might want the MSX feature on FLIR so you can see exactly which components are hot. Check them both out on our site below. With Seek. Can we adjust/move the temperature spot along with the live temp information for later review? Or can we use the file and import it into Flir software?
Seek Compact Pro does allow you to move the measurement spot while in Spot Mode - you use your phone's touchscreen to drag it around. We have never tried to use FLIR Tools with images from Seek cameras, but you're welcome to try! Let us know if you do. You can download FLIR Tools for free here: www.flir.com/products/flir-tools/

Can I use the FLIR One while it is plugged in charging? So the accessory would be connected to my phone and charging to get over 1 hour of use? Is this possible?
Great review. I'm looking to purchase one that I can use to make some art pieces by capturing (via the video feature) an ice climbing via one of these devices. Which do you think is best for these purposes? Also, I will not use it all beyond this purpose but since I will be showing these pieces, I would like a high resolution thermal image.
Of these two cameras, the FLIR ONE Pro would be best because the sensor is better. On the Seek, even with higher resolution, the images are quite grainy at times. That said, for the best quality image you would likely want to go with higher resolution - keep that in mind if you are considering other cameras. You can browse all of our thermal cameras here: www.tequipment.net/thermal-imagers/building-and-industrial-thermal-imagers/
You should place your Q cards closer to the camera so it doesn't look like your talking to multiple people in the room. HOWEVER.... not a bad video and thanks. I did learn something.
If I have a xtra phone laying around that does not have service( it IS NOT CONNECTED TO A PHONE PROVIDER) would the flir one or the seek pro still work? Could I use either one with a phone that is not hooked up with phone service...... thanks for any help
We can't confirm this with total certainty but it's likely that this would work based on the fact that the cameras are compatible with specific iPod Touch models (not cellular devices). That said, you would still need a connection to WiFi in order to download each camera's respective apps (phone-based IR cameras won't work without their apps). If you want to be 100% sure it would work, we recommend you contact Seek Support: support.thermal.com/hc/en-us
...I forgot another question regarding the FLIR One Pro: Can it be charged simultaneously during operation? So, if you want to extend the 1h battery life, would it be possible to keep it fed via power bank / charger? I guess it's internal battery is non removable, so if battery is discharged or ageing, no easy way to replace it with a charged / new one, am I right? Thanks!
In theory yes, you could have the ONE Pro plugged into a power bank during operation to extend the runtime. The charging port is a USB-C port that is separate from the phone connector.
Actually, with four times the pixels it DOES mean that Seek Thermal will always have a better, more accurate picture. MSX is a great tweak for people who, for whatever reason, want the picture to look prettier, and Seek Thermal shows way more detail, it also experiences much less noise, has a much greater detectable temperature envelope and it's sensor, as I personally found out after using then side by side, is way more accurate, has much grated detectable distance, etc. I'm really not sure how these two very different devices can even be compared when one costs $60 more, has a much lower resolution sensor, has am internal battery for whatever reason and a much lower refresh rate. Compact Pro is for the prosumers and professionals, Flir One is for posers who want their iPhone to have a buddy.
Seek compact series cameras can also be used for much longer than flir one cameras because they use the phone’s battery. I also think that the MSX just looks plain ugly.
I do this for a living. flir is absolutely the better choice no matter who is purchasing it. seek is very new to the industry. they have a reputable camera manufacturer but they lack the polish, tech, and software support that has taken flir so many years to perfect. even the guy in the video agrees that seek just isn't there yet. and the build quality of the seek if terrible and guaranteed to break prematurely. as the 2 products stand right now, you would have to be a fool to not go with flir. so don't listen to these to guys in this comment section. I mean we all have eyes, we saw how much cleaner and better the image quality was on the flir with msx on. so read the guys last sentence where he said that flir msx "looked plain ugly". That one statement should tell you all you need to know when pondering it you should trust what the guy said. its clear that he's bought the seek ir camera and just can't bring himself to the realization that he picked wrong. lol. either that or he's a shill for the company. trust what your eyes told you and go with flir. maybe 5 or 10 years down the road seek will be worthy of your money but not today.
@@caseydangar4414 Except it wasn't cleaner. What you had was lines from the camera superimposed which gave the eye the impression things were cleaner. What the Flir is no where near as good at is the actual temeprature gradients. Had this video shown the FLIR in any more BUT MSX mode it would have been immediately obvious that the Seek had far more thermal detail than the FLIR. So, the FLIR is better for doing work on electronics because of the image overlay, but the Seek will be far superior for things like heat leaks in a home inspection where you don't care about words and lines but the temperature of the scene alone.
Thanks for sharing this. Do you think that we can expect higher resolutions like this one from seek pro integrated into a smartphone like the CAT s61 this year ? I would like to see a better distance meter also, 8m isn't useful at all, i need at least 50m to leave my Leica D2 at home. Thanks
According to the user manual for the S61, this phone's thermal camera has a resolution of only 80x60. This means the ONE Pro and Compact PRO both beat this phone in terms of IR resolution. It's likely that integrated IR camera phones will eventually reach this point, but since Cat just released the S61 last year, it will likely be at least another year for anything new from them.
Hello, I'm looking for a camera that has a long shutter speed to look at mountainsides for temperature differences. Do you know which one would be best? I suppose it does not need to be a really good one, because it does not have a short shutter speed like the pros use. But likely it needs an adjustable shutter speed and every pixel needs uniform sensitivity. It also probably needs a long focal length or range. Would you be able to point me in the right direction, I'm looking for something less than $300?
In reality, shutter speed is not a main consideration for most thermal imaging applications. Specifically for your application, since you're shooting a landscape, you likely don't need super fast exposure times. The camera's field of view and resolution/sensitivity are much more important considerations. You also need a camera with long range depending on the distance you are from the mountainside. To give you the best advice possible we need more information on your application. We suggest that you contact one of our product experts - we have certified thermographers on-staff who can help you find exactly what you need. You can call us at (877) 571-7901, email Sales@TEquipment.net, or live chat on www.tequipment.net/ at the bottom right of every site page.
I want to choose which one is right for me to work at home, unfortunately I do not understand the meaning of your video, but would like to know what you could recommend for a personal home?
If you need more information, please contact us directly (via www.tequipment.net) and ask to speak with a thermal expert. For personal use at home, we recommend you go with a smartphone-based camera like the two featured in this video - these types of IR cameras will be the cheapest and best "bang for the buck" value. The new FLIR ONE Pro LT is one of the best value options available: www.tequipment.net/FLIR/ONE-PRO-LT-iOS/Building-and-Industrial-Thermal-Imagers/
Very good review. I haven't tried either of these yet but I think I will consider buying one of these instead of a full flir camera. As was mentioned in several comments, the pace of this video is way too slow but keep it up! it takes practice to get good at anything!
Put your TH-cam play speed at 1.25x or 1.5x and this review is much better.
At 2x it's better.

with the seek if you double tap your split screen, on the phone picture side you can adjust the picture to match the thermal shot.
Yes but you can use a macro lens for the SEEK, but it's a valid point all the same
Use a USB extension and fix the seek next to the camera to reduce parallax
That'll work a bit better, but properly overlaying is way better.
Double tap in the vis cam image, adjust position and zoom with two fingers.
Edit: nobody reads the manuals...
You really get the sense that thermography is a field of true passion and excitement. Thanks for the useful information though.
I will go with the Seek Compact Pro.
I'm glad that I've discovered it before buying Flir.
CSL really? haha
I bought the Flir, but it was bricked when it showed up, so I guess I'm going with the Seek.
@Sleeping Warrior Completely non functional. Returned.
@@wiredforstereo Yep, we've had two Flirs show up bricked, a 3rd bricked itself with parasitic battery drain that kills the internal li-ion battery beyond a state of rechargeable.
CSL i work for Seek and we make the seek compact
Kudos on a thorough and well done presentation! Thank you!!!
The FLIR seems to be a very practical choice, but the Seek is a perfectly sensible choice with a lot of contrast. I'm still waiting for these things to be made so they are clamped to the phone rather than plugged. The charge connectors aren't robust enough.
Guns Cars and Digits wouldn't a cable adapter extender work?
The connector in the IR section needs to be made into a female part, but yeah. That'll work.
I use a cheap [2.5USD] 1meter extender cable here (first picture in this post) to have it attached to an microscope stand when doing macro with the Seek pro..
www.eevblog.com/forum/thermal-imaging/thermal-imaging-gallery/msg1649522/#msg1649522
Works great and hundreds of way you could attach it afterwards with an extender cable.. if you'r doubtful about the connection with direct input...
The battery degradation on the flir from our experience makes it not worth it.
Lee D, Then don't pick up phones by the charge cables. Pick them up like normal people do, by the phone.
Now when you say "run"..
I don’t have the kind of money to buy any of this but I saw it in a advertisement and I’m now gonna watch a hours worth of phone mounted thermal camera reviews
I think the flir is like 200 bucks or so
My Flir One Pro will charge and work as a camera at the same time.

Agree, the Flir One sucks, its going back. Sikh Turban Pro is my next purchase.
FOLLOW UP: I PURCHASED BOTH THE SEEK AND THE FLIR. I ULTIMATELY KEPT THE FLIR AND SENT THE SEEK BACK. FLIR WAS WAY BETTER.

I would say the FLIR is better for household maintenance or jobsite analysis, while the Seek is better for casual and outdoor use.
Speed settings up x1.5 , easier to follow.

I'm here to look at comparisons for paranormal investigations.
The refresh rate difference can make a quality difference for that. The image quality and definition on the seek looks better. We just want to see accurate images with temp differences when we investigate.
Also my phones have extended batteries in the case. 👍
However, auto focus is probably a must for what I do.
11 min 31 Seconds ago I was wondering which of these two awesome affordable devices to get, and now I'm still wondering, sad ...
Neither, they're both pretty lackluster.
The Seek app forces access to your camera from server, not just device. Not sure if Flir also does that
It looks like the next generation of these things may finally retire my nearly 10 year old Flir B360, that was over $12,000 when new!
These things are mainly limited by regulations so I would hold on to that Flir B360 you know they won't allow us normies to have real thermal cameras.

Can we you use a usb-C cable to line up the seek thermal with the in body camera?
OK these are great for seeing heat in an electrical panel, but what about using it to see inside walls before drilling? Will either one of these look inside the wall to show studs, pipes, or wires I might be drilling into?
Depending on some specifics, thermal imaging can be used to show you what is behind walls. That said, the technology only shows the surface temperature, so whatever you're attempting to detect needs to create a temperature difference. Some materials are better conductors than others, and insulation will inhibit any signal. A hot water line may be visible, but a cold water line is likely not detectable with thermal imaging.
Fill the tube with hot water and see its path in the wall. Connect a powerful heater into the socket, when the wire warms up - you will see it)))
I’m an Electrician, I’ve been using the FLIR pro for a while and it’s a great tool.
Perfect!! the comparison i was looking for, well explained and with details, now i know which to buy
Glad it was helpful!
Which one?
I wish somebody would do a comparison of these two cameras in an out door situation like for hunting.
MrDuffy81 useless. The resolution is poor for anything far.
You'd be wanting a thermal scope not a phone mounted camera no?
I owned and regrettably sold a Seek for a Flir ... Even without the 15hz refresh the Seek had the better picture while moving around. I found the Flir only superior when you mount it to a tri-pod or just hold it looking at one spot 3-6 ft away. For those of use who walk around and search areas, the seek was remarkably better. Now with the 15hz refresh I am going to buy a new Seek pro.
The Seek website specs state 9hz frame rate for the Compact Pro...
@@PhilippZ It's 15hz outside of USA, because in america you cant have over 9hz infrared cameras.

Just be aware that Seek has no reporting software of any kind while FLIR comes with the excellent FLIR Tools reporting software - if you need to make reports, go with FLIR. having seek and no complaints so far, but don't expect it to give accurate absolute values of temperature.
why not accurate?
please prove it on youtube
Does it provide secondary development kit and have high frame rate, like InfiRay p2 pro?
I believe the problem with the Seek is the colour palette. Even with only thermal, the FLIR looks much nicer.
You can change the palette in the seek app. "Iron" is the best for human eyes, IMO.
which is realy good for electronic trouble shoot purpous ??
For that application, go with Seek Compact Pro because it has higher resolution. Check it out on our site here: www.tequipment.net/Seek-Thermal/CompactPRO-iOS/Building-and-Industrial-Thermal-Imagers/
How do they do outside in the woods? And which one do you think is better? Can they be used for hunting?
@@TEquipment thanks so much for this information. I'll check this site out.
which one to choose?
It depends on what you want the most. Seek has higher resolution but it doesn't have image blending or reporting capability like FLIR does. FLIR has lower resolution but it does have MSX. The other consideration is battery - the FLIR has an internal battery with 1hr life but the Seek uses your phone battery, so it might last longer if your phone is fully charged.
Closeup (macro) comparison for motherboard repair?
Seek Compact: www.tequipment.net/Seek-Thermal/Compact-iPhone/Building-and-Industrial-Thermal-Imagers/
Seek Compact Pro: www.tequipment.net/Seek-Thermal/CompactPRO-iOS/Building-and-Industrial-Thermal-Imagers/
Great Video! thanks for the detailed comparison
so you could 3D print a holder for the SEEK and attach it closer to the phone camera.
Very informative. I appreciate the video. It’s a big help in my purchase decision.
Annoying not to actually get to see a full-size video from each - why not show us this? Makes it quite hard to judge the quality!
The videos shown from each were already greater than their full resolution; making them larger would not change their quality.
You can save video and Picts with the seek also.
@@jeffs.6488 They were talking about saving the raw thermal file for later/external analysis.
Thank you for the comparisons. Is one any better over the other to identify overheating resistors on a circuit board?
For that application we would recommend the Seek Compact Pro simply because it has higher resolution. That will be beneficial when looking at small components on a PCB. You also probably won't need the extra features included on the FLIR ONE Pro. Check it out on our site here: www.tequipment.net/Seek-Thermal/CompactPRO-iOS/Building-and-Industrial-Thermal-Imagers/
Your video helped me make a decision. Thank You!
Great video when we compared to others, really professional. Thank you

WHATS THE BEST ONE FOR CELL PHONE REPAIR?? Thanks jay
For an application like this where you are looking at very small components, the Seek will likely perform better due to higher infrared resolution.
@@TEquipment what software do you recommend for analyzing Seek images ?
Best review I have seen. Thanks!
Hi. What's the repairability like? Particularly replacing the internal battery.
That said, if your warranty has expired, there are unofficial third party repair guides available online.
and that's how serious people makes a very good Comparison/review
is there a way to connect it to your pc and check it simultaneously? for example in the use of acupuncture or so? thanks

The camera doesn't have to be directly connected to the phone's input jack - you can use an extension cable to have the camera at a distance from your phone.

Does the FLIR One one work well with iPhone cases?
The latest model actually has an adjustable Lightning adapter built-in which you can extend/retract to fit perfectly with almost any iPhone case. FLIR calls it the OneFit adjustable connector. Check it out here: www.tequipment.net/FLIR/OnePro-iOS/Building-and-Industrial-Thermal-Imagers/
Some incorrect information on the One Pro's sensitivity. It's 70mk not 150mk. They both have the same sensitivity.
Yes we are aware. This video was made prior to a firmware update by FLIR which increased the sensitivity of the ONE Pro to 70mK.
@@TEquipment Hmm, interesting. The real question would be then is it a software trick or true resolution increase.

The CompactPro has higher resolution so it should be able to pick up temperature details from farther away. It also has a narrower field of view, meaning the images will appear more "zoomed in" than on the ONE Pro. We would recommend CompactPro if detection range is your biggest concern.

If you need to submit a report just screenshot what’s on your screen which is volume up bottom and power bottom at the same time on iPhone.
That's a great suggestion, you can also save the images from the camera app directly to your device and export them that way.
Both devices have application software that can be set to notify In case the temperature is higher than the specified value?
FLIR does include software but we can't confirm that it has this function. Seek definitely cannot do this as it does not include software. Please contact us via phone at (877) 571-7901, email Sales@tequipment.net, or live chat on www.tequipment.net and our thermal cameras experts will help you.
What's up with an airports? Just curious. Do you have some info about that?
Can you tell me how is better to find leaks in the walls? Thank you
Both cameras will be able to effectively detect leaks, moisture, and missing insulation behind standard drywall.

Hello, which one of these products should I not buy?
It depends on your specific needs. If you only care about the resolution, go with Seek Compact Pro - it has higher resolution than FLIR ONE Pro. If you want other features like visual/IR image blending and a robust analysis software, then go with FLIR - neither of these important features are found on Seek Compact Pro.
for motherboard repair who is the best ?
The Compact Pro has higher IR resolution than the ONE Pro, but the Compact Pro doesn't have any image blending capability. On the ONE Pro, you get powerful FLIR MSX which adds a high level of detail to thermal images so you can really see what you are looking at. For seeing tiny components on a motherboard, you might want the MSX feature on FLIR so you can see exactly which components are hot. Check them both out on our site below.

With Seek. Can we adjust/move the temperature spot along with the live temp information for later review? Or can we use the file and import it into Flir software?

@@TEquipment hi thanks for the reply, I have the software as I am using currently the FLIR E95. As I am now looking for a mobile alternatives with OnePro, since this product being scarce and available and focusing sales in the US only. If you could send me the image from Seek than I can give a try right away
hello, which has greater detection range? in meters. Thank you 😊✌️
The Seek Compact Pro has an advertised maximum detection range of 1,800 feet which is about 550 meters. FLIR has not published the detection range of the ONE Pro in the camera's datasheets - please contact us via phone at (877) 571-7901 or email Sales@tequipment.net and one of our experts will contact FLIR directly to look into this for you.
Either of these units can be used with a iOS or Android Tablet... correct(?)
You can find more info on device compatibility for each unit at the links below.

Can I use the FLIR One while it is plugged in charging? So the accessory would be connected to my phone and charging to get over 1 hour of use? Is this possible?
In the "User Guide" documentation for FLIR ONE Pro, FLIR states that "The FLIR ONE Pro is not intended
to be charged while in use."
TEquipment.NET thank you!
Very informative review, thank you!
You should place your Q cards closer to the camera so it doesn't look like your talking to multiple people in the room. HOWEVER.... not a bad video and thanks. I did learn something.
I returned my new Flir one pro after a day, the darn thing never took the charge and never turned on.
Same experience with two of ours. Terrible battery management firmware.
@@stevey500 Do you know if FLIR fixed the battery issue?
Exactly the video I was looking for. Great information, thank you.
If you want to be 100% sure it would work, we recommend you contact Seek Support: support.thermal.com/hc/en-us
What is price of seek and other one?????
...I forgot another question regarding the FLIR One Pro: Can it be charged simultaneously during operation?
Idea: thermal imaging apps should allow recording GPS location lat/long (also consider what3words), date/time (local or GMT), camera compass direction
