Maddie would’ve probably been completely fine if she was told, “You’re not getting a solo this week because the other girls deserve a chance.” or literally anything else along the line. The problem was that she felt as though she was being punished for something that she did not do. She was simply obeying her mom, and Abby was telling her “I deserve better than that Maddie! How could you!” Maddie is like eight in this scene, and children can’t handle such emotional pressure, so obviously she started crying like any child would in her case. All the girls went through different kinds of abuse, including Maddie and Mackenzie, Maddie’s was simply different. She went through emotional manipulation, and it’s very sneaky, you usually won’t be able to spot it unless you were looking for it.

Maddie gets told she can’t have a solo ONCE and she balls like a baby. The other girls get verbally abused while Maddie is put on a pedestal. Madeline Nielsen The thing to realise about this scene was that it was never about getting a solo. Maddie would’ve probably been completely fine if she was told, “You’re not getting a solo this week because the other girls deserve a chance.” or literally anything else along the line. The problem was that she felt as though she was being punished for something that she did not do. She was simply obeying her mom, and Abby was telling her “I deserve better than that Maddie! How could you!” Maddie is like eight in this scene, and children can’t handle such emotional pressure, so obviously she started crying like any child would in her case. All the girls went through different kinds of abuse, including Maddie and Mackenzie, Maddie’s was simply different. She went through emotional manipulation, and it’s very sneaky, you usually won’t be able to spot it unless you were looking for it.

Abby breaking down in this moment shows how much she needed Maddie and the rest of the team, she was obviously hurt by it, but would never show it in a humbling way that brings people together. Her crying was manipulative towards Maddie as well, because she was just doing what her mom and the other moms were doing, there's absolutely nothing okay about acting like a victim in order to make a child feel guilty.
