That what I learned in school too. There was this one guy (sorry bad memory) who I think found out that his animal was a racoon . He could open, unlock, reveal many things inaccessible. He started to misuse his gifts by unlocking and taking...then stealing and so the gifts started to misuse him. It got to the point that he couldn't leave his room because the door handle wouldn't open just to him. My teacher told us this not sure if they were "pulling our leg " (I m not Native Canadian )or not but I liked the story ...it wakes up a lot of comedy .

For me, it's crows and ravens. Pretty much my whole life, I've seen them physically, in images, or even in dreams with them appearing physically the day after. The most frequent of any animal, especially over the last nine years. They're quite fascinating and I always feel a sense of calmness and belonging when they're around.

I absolutely know my spirit animal. Whenever I'm going through a change or emotionally heightened time, and when I'm going in the right direction, I am visited, literally, by an owl.
I mean they literally fly down to sit very very close to me - way closer than any wild creature would. I've had an owl fly right next to the open window in my car, alternately looking into my eyes and then forward.
There's no question that this is an animal I deeply understand. I dream about them and ended up studying them and doing a 19 year immersion study with a barn owl. He lived (with a permit) with me in my home, slept next to me, tried to stuff mice into my mouth because he felt he needed to feed me, since he saw me as his mate. I wrote about our lives together in "Wesley the Owl: The Remarkable Love Story of an Owl and His Girl".
But long after he died, I am still having owl visitations when something important is happening.
I have told people about this, and then they have seen it.
Example: I met a woman who was destined to become one of my closest friends, and I hers.
She had some walls up because she had once been famous and had had her boundaries overrun too many times. But now she was going through a difficult time in her life and was slowly letting her guard down in friendship.
Suddenly, an owl took up residence right outside her bedroom window. This has NEVER HAPOENED TO HER IN HER ENTIRE LIFE.
Because I had told her about my connection with owls, she realized it was there because I was praying for her and supporting her in this crisis and as a person.
I encouraged her to chorus with this owl and she does. The owl has been there for nearly a year now and she choruses back and forth with him all the time.
She now feels close to this owl and is reminded by the owl that I'm praying for her or thinking of her.
This is typical in my life. I never thought much about owls until I hit adulthood and all of a sudden my life was inundated with owls.
So when I was offered a job working with owls I leaped at the chance.
Now I understand them so deeply that I can see what they're thinking just by slight movements in posture or feather position.
I know what their favorite organs are in a mouse, and a million other things - what tiny vocalizations mean...
    It goes on and on.
My dear friend whose name was Cait (Irish plural for cat) had cats as her spirit animal. The week she died, a mountain lion walked right by the glass kitchen door, 8 inches from me inside. I ran upstairs to watch him and he went right to the wood pile and played by himself, right outside her bedroom window. Thendau she died, q lynx came up to the glass door. Definitely the cat Twas her spirit animal.
    I am part Mohawk.

My animals are deer, bear and hawks. But also horse, wolf, and owl have come to me through dreams. Ironically so, on a camping trip a bear tracked my friend and I up to our campground. I've never shook so much. The next morning a beautiful white/grey deer was in front of my car(we slept in the car) It was quite an experience!

Later on I heard that he actually was an engineer. He even looked a bit like a beaver. All his friends commented about the painting that it's definitely like him ☺️♥️

Redtail hawk has shown up in my life for 30 years. I’ve had them perch on my back yard fence and visit me when I am struggling with serious decision.
The killdeer bird nested in my father’s driveway for years. A year later, I thought it was so special when I purchased a new home, a killdeer ran out into the street and started chirping at me! 😁 definitely a communication !

I'm on a journey of self discovering my Metis Cree heritage after many years of feeling like I needed to hide that park of myself. My encounter was through a dream when I was about 16. I was sleeping over at my best friends house, and I had a very very vivid dream. The sky was many colours at once, there was grass, and mountains, and trees and life everywhere. Animals of all sorts running through the meadow around this boulder. While I was watching this all around me I felt drawn to walk towards this giant boulder and as I approached it, the animals all around where still happily running and jumping, but they sort of started to fade in the background (almost like blurred out). After that, all I remember is the sun shining behind this massive boulder, and a great bear walking towards the end of the boulder, and from that moment I still can't explain the feeling that I felt. It wasn't fear, it was something I had never felt before, and like I was bonded to this being. When I woke up I was still feeling this way and I explained it to my friend who then told me to tell it to her mom.
Her mom is Cost Salish, and she suggested that I had a sort of spirit animal vision and that I should do some research to find the meaning of the bear for Cree peoples. I'm still looking for my answer, but from what I've been told from some is that the bear will guide me in times that I need to have courage, and to listen closely to the guidance it gives.
Thank you for letting me share.

This is very enlightening. I have have been in a state of spiritual emergency. 5 yrs ago my journey began. I am of the Cherokee Nation. I've been smudging and creating my own peace. Through meditation and blessing's. I've always felt the core beliefs and trusted myself. Until recently, my world is surrounded by learning. I had my Animal Spirit Guide show herself in a deep clarity of trusting myself. In the end of September 2020 I had been hiking in beautiful Mountains and Lakes. I have to go without shoes to feel Mother Earth's beauty. I'm with 5 friends. I saw a wonderful tree as a perfect space for sitting knowing the effect of roots grounding me. My friends told me I went to a space of trance. In my mind I looked over a lake, beautiful and calm. Then an Otter showed herself to me, we locked gazes for a moment, after I woke to know I was seeing my Guide. Since I have clarity of my journey and have began a quest of love and happiness. As I continue there is great feeling of lightness and understanding and desire to be.

My spirit animal introduced itself to me. I went through a brutal physical challenge with four near death experiences. I was in exceptional physical condition, but the 14-hour ordeal left me completely spent. My hobbies and career prepared me for the ordeal, but I do feel fortunate to have survived. I was a Paramedic/Firefighter with passions for weight training, running, bicycling, free climbing, and bullet bikes. A first light on the morning of the introduction, I had entered a self-rescue canyon to do some kayaking. Things went south for me, and I found myself climbing out of the deepest canyon in the Colorado River basin with one shoe. Long story short, when I reached the rim, I sat in the edge of the pines rubbing the charlie horses out of my legs. A great horned owl flew into a tree in front of me not fifteen feet away. after about 45 mins. the owl flew to a branch about 8 ft. directly over my head. For about 20 mins. I kept checking to see if it was still there. I never heard it fly away.

Mine unsurprisingly is the cat, and the black ones in particular. They use not not always be black, but more recently as I get older, when one approaches death, another would show up and make itself at home a few months before hand. It’s like they are handing off their guardianship of me from one to the next.

For as long as I can remember I've been drawn to bears. I adore these creatures! So when I got into spiritualism and went on my first Shamanic journey, I was shocked when I saw a very clear vision of a vulture. This really goes to show that THEY choose you, not the other way around. The vulture has been ever present since my journey and its symbolism really has proven perfect for my life and inspires me.

The same thing for me I also am drawn to bears and love that animal of all I have always loved bears. However, when I was in meditation it is always a deer that comes to me not a bear and I have had physical interactions with deer randomly such as one walking right in front of the car looking at us in the car not seeming to be afraid of us approaching and the proceeding to walk off into the woods. They definitely choose us.

I encountered a wild mink while camping in northern Minnesota. All I can say is that I never had another animal speak to my soul in such a strong and spiritual way. It was almost telepathic in feeling. The experience changed my life. To this day... almost 20 years now, I stiil become overwhelmed when I recall that moment. In some way, I feel like the universe let me in on one of its prized secrets. That we are all connected in ways beyond understanding. You dont always have to have all the answers... but when nature speaks to you just stop... and listen. You'll be amazed at unexpected beauty just being alive brings.

Since the year began, i have dreams, thoughts and waking visions of things to come and where i may have come from. Some unique descriptions have stayed with me as time has gone on. “I can hear laughter in the water” and “This lake sings differently” and “I heard the trees talking”, these are old memories and reflections with new eyes. I’ve even gone outside some (i’m in a wheelchair so its hard) and even things like wind, sunshine and things have taken on a new shine they never had before.
I can feel a spirit reaching out to me , its the Fox or “Wagoosh” and i see it every day now. In dreams where i feel connected to them and i experience things through either memories or waking visions, its unlike anything. I say waking visions because entirely too much detail comes at once to be something from my imagination. I feel joy when i am “running” through an unknown forest or when i walk upon a familiar beach but am greeted by spirits rather then people. I want more of these in my life, i think it brings me closer to ME, the me who has always existed but never knew.
I am going to my naming ceremony this weekend and I am hoping my name will tie into this spirit animal but if not then I am grateful for the guidance. I haven't had a vision in a few weeks but I see that as being able to "walk" on my own and make the choices I need to make to be ready for this weekend.

Thank you for this informative video. I have always been interested in Spirit Animals because they remind me a bit of Sacred Animals in Shintoism. I cannot say with absolute certainty what my sacred animal is, but last month, I saw my first eagle flying over me in Winnipeg. I remember that on that day, I went to the museum to see an exhibit by local Indigenous artists. There was one painting of a woman’s mother, and for some reason, it made me sob. When I got outside, I spotted the eagle and felt so strange. I gathered that it was because I had never seen an eagle before and had just cried my eyes out, so I was in an odd state of mind. I don’t think she was my spirit animal, I don’t know. But that experience revived my interest in learning about spirit animals.

I'm not sure if I have a Spirit animal per se. I've seen a variety of animals in my life, from the Bison, Raven, mouse, turtle, magpies, rabbits, bears, elk, and deer. Each one has shown up at different times in my life and taught me something about myself that helped me when I needed it. Like the Bison, during the storms I learned to face the storm and keep moving forward. The Raven taught me to fly above the challenges and keep moving forward. The mouse taught me when to stay quiet and move toward my goal without distraction. The magpie taught me to be resourceful, and the bear taught me to walk in strength when I walk alone. The turtle taught me about the effects of love and compassion, healing, friendship, and persistence. Each animal I encountered, whether through prayer or in this world have all taught me something about myself in a good way. The last animal I interacted with prior to COVID was the mountain lion. I was out in the mountains, sitting at the edge of a river. I had no idea I was being watched until I was in my car and on my way back to the city. A massive mountain lion came walking out of the treeline, close to where I was located. This being stretched to nearly half the width of the road, with its tail still coming out of the ditch. To this day I'm still wondering what the significance of that interaction was. So, is it possible to have multiple Spirit Animals, or Spirit guides? I understand there can be multiple Spirit Guides, but I'm still wondering if I have a Spirit Animal I connect with, because I connect with all of them in unique ways that continue to teach and guide me along my path.

I’ve always been drawn to the lynx but have only really seen them in a wildlife sanctuary. I have had dreams of one though. In times of great stress and emotional struggle I go walk in a forest and it calms me down. In my dream, I was in a forest. I was sitting and leaning against a big tree when a lynx came towards me. I wasn’t afraid. It came closer, sniffed me, head butted my shoulder and demanded chin rubs and pets. It made itself comfortable across my legs. I forgot about my troubles during that time but they started to creep back and in my dream I tried to get up to resolve the problem but the lynx wouldn’t let me get up. Lynx demanded more pets, and eventually fell asleep and my stress over my problem just melted away. Lynx taught me that sometimes doing nothing can solve a problem because sometimes it is not mine to solve and is out of my hands. To understand that helped me deal with a lot of stress and anxiety over things I cannot “make better” for myself or loved ones around me. Lynx taught me that the lesson is not always mine nor is the journey. Sometimes when I lose touch with that understanding, Lynx comes and lies across my legs again in my dream of course, always demanding pets.
I’ve a connection to Cardinals as well but I know it’s my grandfather. His last name was Cardinal. After he passed, a Cardinal would come right outside my kitchen window. I’d say hello to him but then started keeping track of the days I saw him. He came on days that were tougher on my grandmother (like the anniversary of a loved ones death or their birthday) and he wanted me to call or visit her. So I did. When she passed, the Cardinal didn’t come as close anymore but now they both come by to check up on me and my family from time to time.

Such an important and enlightening belief and deeper truth to ourselves and to nature.
I cannot say what my spirit/totem animal is. I know such quizzes exist and I have done them before, with mixed results...but I imagine to truly learn what it is would be a vision/spirit quest (though only a select few are able to undergo such a journey) (though I'm not saying your quiz wouldn't give one insight, as such quizzes do go into the nature of oneself in deep ways).
I remember doing my talking topic point on this subject for my Native American Literature class in college. I was so excited and nervous to discuss it and I didn't get much feedback on it, really just my professor joking about her spirit being a cat of some kind. I know I wasn't the best to talk about it, but I've been fascinated and in awe of the subject/possibility of it for years.
In a presentation for another class, I included a talking point about spirit animals being our truest selves and included a video on one of the Ojibwe teachings of one of the seven animals even though I wanted to include all of them (couldn't show the whole video) and its incredible meaning.
I will say I've told friends and family what I though their spirit animals were, sometimes changing and sometimes not, but I always took it seriously and never as a joke (even though some considered it to be, though in a friendly way) and they told me mine, with different answers.
It's just amazing and humbling to be connected with a certain animal on a spiritual level that is our true self, who we are deep inside.
(Sorry if I'm being kinda silly with this, I've just thought for such a long time it was an amazing belief/reality to us and I'm going to much on this. I obviously am nowhere near the best person to speak on this and maybe I've been doing an injustice to the belief and the First Nations on speaking about it and I'm truly sorry if I have done so. I just thought it was something that truly astounding that more than deserved to be respected, learned, embraced, and understood. I've tried to honor this as best as I could, but I know I still know very little and that I make mistakes when acting on this and speaking about it.)
(Sorry if the comment was too long.)

@@lostinthestorywithjeremymi9385Hi. Just like Malorry said, is there a being you have been arracted to or scared of your whole life? Like maybe you hâd a favourite toy to sleep with, or always wore a certain being on your clothes or key chaines. Or just kept watching documentaries of a certain animal , or they just keep poping up in your life... Maybe it is "pets". They say that you have a few totem spirits, but messages could come to you through other spirits as well. So, when a certain mesage needs to be delivered to you, you might be bombarded by different beings if you dont get the message easily. But you will end up learning that they all bring the same message. It is beautiful to learn you have help along the way. But now what is the most important thing to do, now more than ever? Clean your soul, make sure you are at peace with all that has happened and with what will happen because there is little time, almost none. We are near the end, though most dont want to accept it. Im not trying to scar anybody, I have received my confirmations and I want to share that while I still can. These upcoming few years will be unbelivably hard, so strenghtening your relationship with our Lord and your guides is important. And the beast from the sea or antichrist is already at work ( and he has been for the last 20 years or more). He started a war, a year and a halph ago, and he wont stop untill he will have the whole world bow to him,one way or another. So, when time comes, dont accept his "brand". I was shown it is him, I dont know how the 666 number is associated with him, but it is him alright. He's friend...the dragon...Who has always had the dragon as a symbol of divine origin for their leaders? The dragon is believed to be able to take any form, just like the evil ones. Anywho, take care of your soul and loved ones and others.

I was an addict who struggled for 20 years. I could not find healing or understanding why I could not quit what I hated. At the edge of death I went to the naturals spring bear my home. Off and old Apache trail. It was sunrise and I was sitting there near the water, when I began to feel many Native Spirits dancing around me. I could feel them healing me. Every hair on my body stood up and danced with them. I began to see Doe's . One morning the back yard was filled with does . A beautiful sight truly. I then had a dream I was walking in a forrest. I came upon a woman dressed in furs her hair unmanaged and not so easy on the eyes. On her right leg a doe rested her head. On her left leg a buck rested his head. He lifted his when he noticed me. Despite the womans appearance I could see her kind heart. She ordered the buck to lay his head down. She then allowed men to pass. She did not move her lips to speak neither did I. We spoke to one another from our hearts. I then woke up. Since I have the purpose of life is simple. A man plants his seed in the womb of woman whose natural spirit permits life by water. Man is to plant fruitful seeds in the womb of the earth whose spirit permits life by water. She and the earth are 1 creating Paradise with men. But he has lost his way by following men and god. Mama is her name and Nature is her plain. She comes to the seeker and tests your vanity. Mama lives in us . Biology confirms the spirit molecule contained within our mtDNA is received through Mama. She creates life with men.

A stray dog had come out of the woods and was coming towards us. Just as we turned and ran a coyote came out of nowhere and cut the dog off distracting it as we ran. Another time, just about a year ago I had a friend in the hospital who we weren't sure was going to make it. I left the hospital one night and told his family I would pray for him and that night a coyote was literally wandering down the middle of street. Even weirded I had my small pug out and he looked right at him and kept going. Didn't even bother going after it. Later I come to find out Coyotes are sometimes seen as messengers of good news. It's funny too because they are often called tricksters and both times I've encountered them they tricked me but ultimately helped me.

Coyotes are tricksters, but are a a great helper too! It sounds like the coyote is one of your helpers. :)

Yes. I had two dreams involving bears that warned me of something that came to pass. I am a Mannissean mixed Native and when this happened I was curious but didn't understand why it happened. Thank you for sharing as I know little about my cultural beliefs.

Yes! You may not know it but maybe you're drawn to a specific animal because it chose you. 😀

Interesting video. Never thought about a spiritual animal. I need to meditate and contemplate what my spiritual animal might be.
