- In this video I will discuss the introduction to SunnySide. Let me know if you'd like a full review of the game.
SunnySide is a brand new indie farming simulator. This is a short first impressions / review of the game. This is not a full game play review, as I firmly believe that before you even get to the core game play loop of this game, it shows you enough warning signs and issues to potentially avoid a purchase.
As mentioned in the video, I love this game. If you are a developer of the game or worked on it, your hard work is still loved and appreciated. I apologize if it hurts to see me rag on the game like this, but I firmly believe that if you love a piece of media, you should be able to critique it. Sorry for the bottom part of the screen being cut off, lol. I wasn't going to re-record everything, however, I may re-record it for a full review / play through in the future. I don't know.

100% agree with every points.
What's sad is that if they just removed one system from the game (remove the mine, or the critter picture things) and use that time to polish the game, we would have a good game on our hands.
And the state of the game is actually worse than you think: If you have a an AMD GPU, the game will crash in the mines. A lot.
As for the realistic approach to dating... Well at that point, they might as well set characters have hair color or height preferences.
Apparently they fixed that issue with AMD GPUs. Haven't tested yet. I'll be playing it soon and will talk about it in my full review.

the game wasn't rushed, the game dev just isn't an experienced developer so it wasn't optimized like it would if it was made by a proper dev company. However, the game is still fun as hell.
I'll be giving it a full shot soon, I understand this isn't a proper dev, but the things I point out here aren't a lack of experience, they are clearly rushing stuff haha. It's easy to believe their publisher pushed them.
@robinP_P You keep saying rushed but I think there are better words to describe what happened. The game was pushed back several times, so an effort was made to give it more time, but these are essentially indie devs. They had great ideas but I believe they bit off more than they could chew. I don’t believe they had the skills needed for everything they were trying to accomplish, but I am glad they tried. Yes, the game feels like early access and I wish they had advertised it as such.
I bought the game because I liked that they were attempting to breathe fresh air into a genre that sorely needs it; so I’m willing to forgive a lot of the jank because they are essentially indie devs and they took a big risk attempting to make this game. However i want them to continue to grow their skills and refine what they released. Also, with this cash injection, perhaps they can hire someone more experienced to help smooth out all the edges….
@@Jo-vw3qw And I love your words here, but I can't review a game or promise it's worth or not worth your money on a pillar of "it could get better" and "they tried"s.
Cold hard reality is most who watch reviews don't care enough about that. They don't care that they're indie, they want a functional cohesive experience that doesn't require reading on a wiki or reporting bugs. They want decent performance and quality, POLISHED content.
Call it whatever you'd like, I entirely believe they deserve love for putting their all into this, but it's not enough and I won't be changing my mind on it until it is. I want for it to be good, too.
@robinP_P Don't think your review is wrong, but although most ppl won't find it worth it, some might for the reasons I outlined... since worth can be subjective.
So, although it may not have been necessary for the purpose of this video, it would have been nice to give a bit of acknowledgment to that.
However, regardless, I'm glad you took the time to make a video about the game, as not many know about it. :)
@@Jo-vw3qw valid. I intend to make a full review of the game, and am actively working on it. In that video I'll definitely include a section exactly as you've mentioned. Thank you for that.
Personally, I don't have a problem with the romance candidates having their own sexualities. I think it's pretty cool, in fact! BUT. What DOES bother me is the devs bending over backwards to keep said orientations hidden, and treating said orientations as SPOILERS and telling their playerbase to trial-and-error their way through. At least save us the heartache and wasted time and tell us their prefs!
Ngl, some of their actions on Steam kinda make me raise an eyebrow as well; most of all them locking threads discussing romance AT ALL and making everyone who wants to discuss ANY romantic relationships in the game discuss it in one single mod-created thread. Not to mention people saying negative things about current aspects of the game (some not even related to romance!) as just "complaining to complain"

Same here, honestly. It really frustrates me that they seem to be closing their ears on major bits of criticism or selectively listening to criticism. For reference, I and MANY others made comments in their discord talking about how the game isn't ready for release. They delayed it by a couple weeks or a month or so. Also, really sad that the clothing clipping and looking generally unappealing is being disregarded as "We can't do that! We've done everything we can!" They also claimed that games being delayed only on console wasn't a bad sign for PC players being bug testers, but that's exactly what we've been... lol.
Playing this on HDD instead of SSD is a pain ... biking is pain , bugs bugs bugs , it has potential to be great but it needs to be playable first , lagging is daily basis
Yeah I can't even imagine playing it on a HDD. I'm playing on an SSD and using a high end computer and still lag constantly. (Yes even after their recent "patch")
I played the demo and the awful textures and floating npc and juvenile writing immediately turned me off. And I was really excited for it. :/
Absolutely. Good on you for playing the demo first before purchasing.
I too shared that excitement. Following the game for a long time and constantly checking their discord hyping myself up.
I'll be making a full review soon, however it may take me a bit as I'm going to go in much more detail and will be upping the production quality much more.

Not trying to make excuses, but I think the biggest issue is it looks like Rainy is the only one actually programming the game..all by himself. He might have some side workers and I've seen writers and some artists, but it looks to me like most of the entire game is being made by himself and it's his first game. It feels like it's about 3-4 people as a whole NGL.
Oh, no that's genuinely a valid excuse. I still carry the same opinions regardless, I believe due to Rainy's sickness and the many delays, perhaps their publisher pushed them? I don't know. I just know that the team are extremely lovely people. I know they wouldn't want the game to feel this way.

Tbh for me if the game lacking content they can gradually add it and just say the game as early access n not full release which is weird to see in this state of the game. And for 3d games the core essential you have to complete as no 1 priority is graphic. You can be lazy with graphic if it's 2d or pixel but 3d is all about aesthetic, idk why the dev mindset is backwards in this type of things. Everyone keeps saying the dev is indie dev, but a lot n most indie dev knows that 3d games need polish graphic as core point before the content. 3d games all about aesthetic as a way to catch eyes of players

I agree. It is sad to see others making excuses for the developers. I do not hate them, nor do I want this game to fail. But some of this is so clearly showing that the developers didn't manage their time well. Thanks for writing.

I’m kind of disappointed there’s no marriage in this game. Persona not having marriage is understandable cause they’re literally teenagers but why not in a farming life sim? 😢 anyways I also agree that being locked out of dateable NPCs because of the slider kind of sucks too. When or if they fix the performance, I’m just gonna be single to avoid all the trial and error.
I feel similarly. In fact, I have it specifically written into the script for the upcoming full review that Persona has an excuse for a lack of marriage and kids, the game is as you said, about high schoolers and only covers that part of their lives.
Also yeah! That issue of locking people out wouldn't be as bad, @wandering1976 mentioned a good point, that it would be more acceptable if it were easier to find out without trial and error. I agree though, I sort of dislike locking people out regardless, sure it is more realistic and maybe that is a neat selling point for people, to better learn about the people, so I won't say it's a bad decision. Just one I feel could have been an option!
11:35 I completely agree. I prefer a fun game over a realistic one and romancable npcs having realistic sexualities is not fun for me.
I used to follow this games development some time ago. Unfortunate it turned out this way but honestly I never had high hopes to begin with.

Yeah, it feels odd to have the game be innovative enough to let you decide where you are on fem - masc scale, but then be restrictive on who you can date after.
Game was unplayable for me. Too poorly optimized.
The game is playable for me, but it feels awful to have a "Cozy Game" run so terribly. Their priorities here are wild. Thanks for watching.
It just... doesn't look good, looks like they took Yandere simulators engine and just tried to make a cheap looking farming game, also... considering i never saw any farming during this review... for a farming game, concerns me.
I somewhat agree graphically. There are times later in the video where I show an area I find to be rather pretty. I think the game is beautiful in some ways, but really lacks in many ways. I remember their old goals or having these insanely complicated weather systems that looked beautiful.
Their team is amateur with 3d work, and it shows. That's fine with me if it was at least polished haha.
I (as you may know) avoided talking about gameplay much here intentionally as I feel it isn't even necessary to illustrate how rushed the game is. I'm working on a full review of the game that will go into more detail and go over a recent patch.

The game is rushed and not very great in my opinion. My full review will come and you can hear me in detail there. Enjoy what you want, I'm not the ultimate authority.
I thought the game was good when I first started playing it but it has become quite bad the longer I play. The characters behave oddly and places just feel deserted. My character 'dies' if I crash into a shrub and I have to start from the beginning. I don't know, I just feel annoyed with the game and I unfortunately paid full price.
