      Yes and no. Strictly speaking the bailiwicks of the Channel Islands are not part of the UK; they are what is termed Crowned Dependencies. Same for the Isle of Man where you can happily buy hand guns. Even in the UK the firearms law isn't uniform. For example, In Northern Ireland you can have handguns or Scotland requiring licenses for air weapons.

      @@clangerbasher They are still part of the UK as every map I own tells me they and also when I was in the Army, RAF and other I and others had to be sent there. Yes they run most of their own Gov but they are still part of the UK. If they were not then others from the mainland of the UK could not own firearms/guns over there and still live on the main land of the UK. Thank you.

    I had a Hera Arms handle on my last straight pull AR (sold a while back) and they're definitely a step-up over the t handle, which as a straight pull is pretty horrendous. The best option is to have the receiver cut and a handle connected directly to the bolt itself (for right hand shooters) but of course you're looking at even more expense there. These Hera charging handles are a good compromise between the two.

    In the UK its .22 rimfire only. .17 rimfire wasnt really a thing when the law was writen especially in semi auto so it wasnt included.

    That would be soooo easy to modify into a pump action rifle -obviously illegal though. You would just need to take the motion of the side bolt to the front of the gun using an external arm/pump.

  • @0neDoomedSpaceMarine

    It's actually possible to do semi-automatic rifles in .22WMR and .17HMR, it's just that the balance between the thin rimfire brass casing and the speed of the bolt is VERY tricky if you're using a conventional blowback bolt. It can't be too light, or the action opens early and the brass ruptures, but it can't be too heavy either, or it will short stroke and not do the full cycle. CZ made a semi-automatic rifle in .22WMR, which to my knowledge is plain blowback, and it seems to work, but that's the only one I can think of.
    Looking at Savage, they make a semi-automatic .22WMR and .17HMR rifle, theirs uses a lever-delayed blowback action (not too unlike the French FAMAS F1). Looking at Arcadia Machine & Tool (AMT, they're not around anymore), they made their Automag II pistol, which used an unconventional setup where the chamber is dimpled, so the brass casing is forced to expand into the dimples and also be straightened out as it's being pulled out by the slide, delaying the blowback action that way.
    I have also seen a full-blown AR15 in .17HMR, which actually used the gas system. Don't know who made it though.

    I'm glad you get to play with that rifle, I'm very spoiled being an AR owner in the states. It appears that bolt is the same as a semi auto bolt by the way, it sure looks like it anyway.

    • @JammyGuns
      @JammyGuns 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, they're basically built from the ground up unfinished (not converted) as it's illegal to convert from Section 5 (self loading centrefire being Sec 5 in the UK). Once something's Sec 5 it's always considered to be Sec 5 under UK law, no matter if it's subsequently permanently neutered... So no gas port drilled, no gas tube or block is ever fitted from the very beginning. The good news is that you can still run aftermarket AR parts and so at least enjoy the famous moddable nature of the rifle to a certain extent, and even a .22RF conversion kit in semi will work. Not as fun as the real thing of course but a decent compromise given the reality of being stuck in the UK.

    2:27 - It's a legal thing, specifically says in the act semi auto .22 ONLY no other caliber. The good thing is they didn't specify LR so WMR which is twice as powerful is allowed in semi auto. Ironically, due to the fact that ONLY .22 is allowed in semi auto, a smaller diameter cartridge such as .17 HMR is also banned in semi auto. Yeah I know, stupidity of UK gun laws. They make no sense.

    Since there is no mag capacity limit like some states in the United States (five states, I believe, which makes them more restrictive than the UK IN THAT REGARD) what would you have to do to get something like a beta C-Mag? Would that be hard or impossible or easy? And would you be interested in a drum mag? Why or why not? Whenever there is video of UK shooters, it seems they are always just doing long distance target shooting. Why are they never like Americans who sometimes just want to go outside and blast some shit up close and rapidly? One last interesting question: why could you in theory invent a .223 Rimfire carriage to have semiauto ARs in the UK (and a whole Pandora’s box of whatever the fuck you want)?

    • @ApurtureSci
      @ApurtureSci 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, we can have any magazine capacity we like. But on a manually operated rifle it gets boring rather quickly. I've shot a straight pull AKM and even after 30 rounds I was tired of operating the action, so a drum would have been pointless even if cool. Making a new rimfire cartridge might be possible, although too costly of course, but the government would just ban it on release.
