Thank you for following along with this series from my first thru hike in 2016! Although I had attempted the AT in 2012, and had done a whole lot of section hikes prior, this was the first long hike that stuck. And what a hike it was! I'll see you guys soon with new videos planning for the PCT 🙂
Thanks so much for posting these videos of the IAT. There's something special about watching this footage of the hiker you were, knowing the hiker you have become.
Jupiter...thanks for the inspiration. I grew up in Plaster Rock, NB. I recognized the train bridge. I’m NOBO on the AT March28 and will finish by walking home to NB. Again, you have really inspired me to get out there.
@@JupiterHikes that’s awesome! Hope you’re enjoying yourself as much as I have been. 😊 It’s an absolutely beautiful area. Hopefully finishing up late Wednesday or early thursday
The mud in matane... Is on a level you don't see often 😂 I had a ton of rain going through there, trails were like creeks with insane mud pits. Fun times!
I felt like Matane was about as hard as hiking could ever get! Loved it but sure had a hell of a time. From the top of one mountain I saw a moose and it's baby swimming across a lake in the valley, a highlight for me. Glad you enjoyed the trail as well and good to know others are out there doing it! It was so good to me
A lot like my moose encounter in glacier. Did the same exact thing. Stepped back. Waited a while. They never moved. Walked slowly past them after a while.
I was at the campsite you mention after your moose encounter doing a section hike in the other direction. I'm pretty sure I did not gave you any useful hints on moose while we had a chat ;) I was on the other side of Gaspésie national park during the rainstorm you mention and I would not want to be on an exposed ridgeline while it happened, especially not on mount Fortin!
Woah! Did you stay in the refuge/shelter with me that night? I remember two guys being there but no idea what we had spoke about, though I assume, moose lol It's great to hear from you!
@@JupiterHikes no I was staying at the campsite, did not knew you slept at the nearby shelter. While on the AT the next year I saw a drawing you made at the Church hostel at the NJ/PA border and I looked up your blog and that is how I knew that you made all the way to Key West.
That was incredible. The remoteness was wonderful and scary at the same time. I wonder how many have done the IAT since you went through, and how your experiences would differ if you did it again.
With the pandemic, over 100+ people try to hike the whole IAT-QC(quebec section) every year! Before that, under 30 people tried to walk the whole thing every year! Not counting the section hikers!
Hey Jupiter! What an absolute pleasure it was to join you on this one. You are such an inspiration. You have totally given me a new love for the IAT. Getting to see knife edge through your eyes was such a gift. It is such an awesome piece of trail. I can’t wait to see where you take us next! I was wondering, did you carry a yo-yo on the IAT? 🙏 Thanks for bringing us along today. I hope tomorrow’s miles are kind. Keep truckin’ and be well. -Grateful
I did not bring a yoyo on this one! But! Later on that year as I did the Pinhoti Trail and Florida Trail, I had a yoyo sent to me then for those hikes. Pass the time, knock down some spider webs, a great addition.
I used to tarp tent in my prior backpacking days and I want to do some backpacking with my dog but I would like him to be in something so prevent him from wandering around at night Do you have any suggestions for a bug enclosure that I could fit under a tarp that would really help me stay light weight and light budget I dig that your into the tarp set ups ... once you get used to setting them up the versatility is amazing
For me it was a bit of instinct and paying closer attention. Looking for anything that would indicate someone had been there before. Footprints or broken branches etc
Hi Jupiter, I plan to do the AT to Quebec next year and I have a few questions. I have some concerns about the timing. How many days did you spend at IAT Quebec? Were you able to walk at least 20 miles each day? How many days have you spent on IAT Maine and NB combined? I think this is the section where you can do high mileage days. Thank's :)
You know it! 10 miles of walking along the border, a lot of road, and then some trail miles leading up to Baxter. It was definitely fun but you're right in that I didn't film much of it
@@JupiterHikes i live about 15 minutes from where you crossed, have hiked marshill mtn aka big rock hundreds of times, its our only real climb up here thats do able for a day hike. Kahtadin woods and waters is really beautiful although not as thru hiker friendly as they once were now or soon to be requiring pre registration for a spot at a site. i tried to get people to write in dont know if it was a success or not, its really sad there is enough continuous forrest to route the iat in the woods but land owners dont want us bums up here lol
@@erikgiggey4783 it's a similar story to New Brunswick, the logging companies don't want a potential liability and from what I've heard that's a huge reason it's mostly road. Both fun but not as established as QC
Is there a way to bring a handgun into Canada with me I plan on their hiking the AT from the most northern part of Canada how was your experience getting across the boarder and getting across the boarder in Maine do they check you or can you just go on through I plan on having my gun with me all the way to Georgia
So much change!! So much that I stopped wearing them entirely. I tried the newer versions once or twice since 2017 but haven't ever been as happy with them as I was in the beginning

So glad you released footage from this trip bro, it was amazing. I was surprised to see how few people actually complete the trail each year.
@@aaronperkinson4433 I'm sure a few more these days but I think 99% of people just do the Quebec section. And for good reason! It's awesome up there
Enjoyed this series 👍. So much more than I thought. Good luck on the PCT.
Awesome 👏🏻
Really enjoying this series man! I never realized how awesome the IAT in Canada was.
See why I brought it up in the live streams? Haha
Canada has some pretty sweet thru hikes, I want to check them out. Ontario is where I'm based
I've hiked the parts of the IAT in Newfoundland...so pretty. Would love to do the Quebec portion
Thanks for sharing your beautiful treck...in my backyard. We play and hike those trail every summer.
I hiked the knife edge twice, in the same direction as you, 40 years ago. I have great memories of the Maine and NH mountains.
Thanks so much for posting these videos of the IAT. There's something special about watching this footage of the hiker you were, knowing the hiker you have become.

Awesome!! You have a nice little cooldown hike after the AT. Some little main towns, and hopefully a fun chill time!
Jupiter, thanks for sharing your IAT videos. Beautifully done and worthy of the detail (in addition to your ECT video).
Awesome Jupiter ! ... I hope you will keep these coming from your 5,000 mile walk
Hello from the ocean to lake trail! Always love seeing a video pop up, glad everything worked out with the Moose!
I could nearly say the same! I'm only 2 miles away from the OTL at the moment

Very cool series! Glad you found the footage.
Such a nice series to watch, thanks for sharing!
Amazing day! Hope you met a fellow hiker at the end of it, cherry on top!
Thanks for these three episodes about a lesser known trail. I really enjoy watching your videos. Have fun preparing for the PCT!
Currently watching while on the ocean to lake trail, love the videos 👍 glad everything worked out with the Moose
That was awesome, especially the part where you crossed over and started the regular Appalachian Trail!
These 3 videos were great. Thanks a lot.
It is both so strange and refreshing hearing a hiker using "kilometers" on the AT.
Great vid Jup, hope to see you on trail one day
The remoteness and solitude is wonderful, but the sense of community is really what makes people hike the trail over and over.
I actually LOVE that the IAT still doesn't get that many hikers! Community is great, but so can be the remoteness and solitude!
You back on the Altra shoes train again? Great video. Was awesome to enjoy.
Love your videos! Your joy is so evident! I just have to say, how cool would it be if Altra brought that very same shoe back? I can dream.

Some great shots and video my friend 👍

Love these! Thanks for sharing!
Was the border crossing really that chill? I figured there would be some sort of check point?
Wait...this is old footage??! lol i just realized that. Ha, glad I can watch it now.
will you please tell me where that shelter in Maine you were not going to stay is? By the way, really enjoyed your video.
where are the videos after video 3? I want to see the entire hike please.
love seein baby jupe

Gaspesie provincial park and Matane! One of the more trafficked areas to one of the more remote, both right next to one another

What to do in a Moose encounter?
Respect the Moose.
moose can be a very aggressive animal.
not much of northern maine, granted its mostly crap atv trails and road walks till KWW
