  • A Bavarian malt that has been previously reviewed is given another chance several years later when a rep sends in a new bottle. Could it be drastically different over time?
    Big thanks to Nick Binderer [Head of Sales] for the bottle. Cheers ya reppy bastard!

    There are people out there that will really like this for the funkiness so hopefully the rep knows that.

    I actually visited the Slyrs brewery 3 years ago. The tour is great, most times given by one of the founders. Their whisky for the time the brewery exists is as far as I am concerned excellent. It is not a top 5 brand but for its price its a superb on the shelf bottle to have. Handy for those sudden good evening moments that do not warrant a full blown top tier bottle being broken open. Especially the 12 year bottle is quite good. And I am quite sure we will see much good from this brewery in the years to come.

    Slyrs 12 and Slyrs Pedro Ximenez are both delicious, IMO. Had both during a work trip to Bavaria and brought a bottle back.

    Sheesh, I'm at a wedding npw am Schliersee. The distillery is great, and I like most of the whisky, not the 3 year, but the 51, the 12 year, the malt, it's all good. But, to each their own. From the beer capital of the world, cheers aus Bayern

    Well, yeah, German Whisky can't escape it's Obstler-origins. You should try any German Obstler for comparison and you would understand, why almost all German Whiskys taste the way they taste.

    I bought their standard single malt maybe 7 years ago as a novelty when I was living in Germany. Best I would say is that it is okay. It is not great and that shows when I still haven't finished the bottle after 7 years. The other observation I have is that their whisky is expensive for what it is and I don't think it is worth it. There are better whiskies you can get for less money and I don't see me buying it again.

    With all the open bottles, do some go bad or lose the flavor? Just curious.

    • @christianeifel-guy9279
      @christianeifel-guy9279 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They don't go bad as in "no longer save to drink", but the flavor will change the more you give it time to react with air. Sometimes you might actually like a bottle better that has been open for 6-8 months. At some point though, most of the flavour might be gone

    Do you think the barnyard note is from aging or from a Wild/Brett yeast fermentation? Certainly a Brett market in the craft beer world, perhaps an attempt to meld those worlds.

    To be frank, I don´t like any of the German whiskeys, I went through all of them. They just all remind me of what the distilleries that made them usually make and they just took schnaps and stuck it in a barrel to see what happens, plus they do like three or five year releases, in a climate that´s a lot like Ireland, I think that´s not enough.
