"The Heat is On!" Yes, "Beverly Hills Cop" is still the funniest and excellent action comedy ever made! Eddie Murphy totally rocks as "Axel Foley"; a wisecracking and smart Detroit Cop comes to Beverly Hills solving a murder about his friend and going after a sadistic killer, teams up with Judge Reinhold as "Billy Rosewood" and John Ashton as "John Taggert". Love all the hi-jinks (including the Bananas in the tailpipes), amazing action scenes and hilarious foul-mouthed humor that you can get away with it all! Also, love the Soundtrack that goes with it like the "Axel F'" theme by Harold Faltermeyer as well as "The Heat is On!" by the late, great Glenn Frey from "Eagles" and "Neutron Dance" By: The Pointer Sisters. Just a non-stop 80s classic!
Classic Eddie Murphy movie and when he was at his prime. Sad that we don't get more unapologetic action comedies like this anymore. I mean these kinds of movies just didn't give a fuck back then and I love it.
Then of course, I also love: "We're not gonna fall for the bannana in the tailpipe." "You're not gonna fall for the bannana in the tailpipe? It should sound more natural. Like: 'LOOKE HERE MAN, I AINT' FALLIN' FOR NO BANNANA IN MY TAILPIPE!' You've been hangin' around this dude too long." And they both look at him, and he's like: "I'm just messing with you." And then they're like: "You know for a guy whose on vaction, you look very much like you're on a stakeout." "Stakeout? No, I'm picnicing. This is like a picnic area."
Then of course, I love the scene where he's trying to get a room at the hotel, and he pretends to be an interviewer for Rolling Stones, and he's like: "I'm here to do an exclusive interview with Michael Jackson. I was gonna call the article: 'Michael Jackson is sitting on top of the world', but now I think I might as well call it: 'Michael Jackson can sit on top of the world, just as long as he doesn't sit, in the Beverly Palms Hotel, because there's no... *bleeps* allowed in there!" Yeah, I bleeped it out, because I don't wanna get in any trouble. Because if you say the word, people might take it the wrong way. But, in the context of the movie, it works.
Yeah it's a funny scene although the scene in part 2 when Axel uses a different accent referring to himself as Johnny Wishbone to the asshole detectives is a funnier scene IMO.
Alright, I'm sorry about the long speech, but classic Eddie Murphy films, are films I could talk about for an hour. I could talk about those movies for an hour, easily.
I like that leading lady isn’t a love interest. Jennifer is Axel’s friend and is totally platonic. They have chemistry. You could see them being together but they don’t have to be sexually together.

An awesome movie, definitely one of Eddie Murphy's best films! If only he could do more great stuff like that nowadays!

This is my favorite Beverly Hills Cop film, I have it on DVD since 2007.
The police department in Beverly Hills Cop is the same one that's in the Last Boy Scout. Great Review.

Saw this when i was 4 back in 86 with my big brothers on HBO and dug it, one of the first r-rated movies i watched.
