Michael is apart of history in terms of being lex, did a phenomenal job. I felt he set the standard as modern live action lex not to mention he was voicing Wally West around the same time as Smallville. He's a part of some iconic stuff.

First generation Skins has one of the most insane young casts looking back: Nicholas Hoult, Dev Patel and Daniel Kaluuya! Also Joe Dempsie, Hannah Murray (GoT), Aimee-Ffion Edwards and Kaya Scodelario. What a talent pool. It's also such a shock to remember Peter Capaldi was in it.
Nicholas is such a warm, genuine young man and this episode was a treat to listen to and I wish him every success with his forthcoming role as Lex Luthor🙂

Very cool, the fact that Smallville was Nicholas' first Lex and that it meant so much to Rosey was really heartwarming to see. Gonna fancast for a moment, it would be really cool to have Rosey play Lionel Luthor in the Gunn movies, just sayin'... plus he could keep his hair!
I can see Gunn giving him a cameo. He gave him a small role in Guardians, so I have 0 doubt he’ll give him a cameo in the new DCU somewhere. Having him play Lionel would be too on the nose though.

Never saw his career coming this far watching Warm bodies. That was a film i watched on a whim and ended up really liking. Glad to see how far his come.

I finished watching Warm Bodies with my gf last weekend, and I've seen Nicholas in other films such as The Menu, X-Men First Class, and X-Men Days of Futures Past. He's an absolutely tremendous actor and I can't wait to see his portrayal of Lex.

Nicholas Holt asks you a question "What did you take away from the playing the character?" I think it would be interesting to bring Nicholas back after he has played the role, to have a conversation on the contrasts between what he took away from the role being in a condensed film format compared to you with the episodic exploration of the character.
A very lovely moment was when Nicholas wasn't comfortable sharing a dark period in his life, and yet Michael was so respectful of Nicholas' feelings. The way he handled it is an indication of how great and empathetic Michael is. As a neewbie actor myself, seeing Nicholas smiling and feeling heard is the perfect interaction between two people, two actors. I'll also add that's a great way for filmmakers to build trust with their cast. That way the actors will be comfortable enough to be vulnerable when the camera's rolling. Bravo, Michael 👏🏻

It always kind of makes me smile a little bit whenever two like well-known or semi-well known actors meet and it turns out they're actually fans of eachother. It just creates such an interesting, human atmosphere I think. Also Rosenbaum is really good as an interviewer (when he doesn't talk over his guests). But he really kind of seems to create a really good vibe that makes these people actually like being there, just talking like a regular human person.
This has to be a highlight of the podcast. Seeing Michael give advice and pass on his techniques to the next person to play his most iconic role of Lex Luthor is special.
That was actually a really fantastic low key impression of Anthony Hopkins to be fair. He got his very light Welsh accent and his intonations just right and even stared off into the distance, like Sir Anthony does when he's being himself. That was dead on.
Nick is a good dude, he comes from my home town & went to the gym my girlfriend worked at, after a late shift my girlfriend was waiting outside in the dark & Nick waited with her until her mum showed up, nothing weird about it - he just was being kind.
Some people wear that on their face and i always assumed it of him. Very nice seeming n in a way will be great for Lex cuz you’ll like him and be charmed
This episode was so lovely, probably one of my favorite episodes to date. 🥺 I’m hoping that Nicholas Hoult and James Gunn both agreeing that Michael’s Lex was the best is a good sign for how Lex is going to be presented in the movie. None of the other live action Lexes have really resonated with me, but Nicholas is an exceptional actor and has the right look for him, so I’m very optimistic about the movie!

I'm currently half way through Smallville reruns. I loved the show when it was first on. Always been a huge fan and supporter of Michael's. A couple of years ago I was really struggling with mental health and anxiety issues. I was spending a lot of time in solitude in a bad thinking pattern. I put Smallville on and it really helped take my mind off all the things that I was struggling with, which led me to the podcast which led me to getting better, getting healthier, mentally and physically. Without knowing it, Michael really helped me out of myself and to now living a much better life. The little things that have a knock on effect onto the big things. Nicholas Holt was absolutely brilliant in the Great. Really enjoyed it. Such a good actor and really funny too.

Fury Road was the first thing I'd seen Nicholas in, and I've loved everything I've seen him in since. And I've gotta say, I never imagined him as Lex Luthor but I have no doubt he'll knock it out of the park.

I started watching the great by accident, and what an outrageous script, extremely funny performances, and a show that can be heart wrenching and uplifting. Can't say enough about The Great. I'll also add that's a great way for filmmakers to build trust with their cast. That way the actors will be comfortable enough to be vulnerable when the camera's rolling. Bravo, Michael 👏🏻

Nic Hoult is one of my fav actors of recent years.
To answer Nick's question, Smallville was shown in the UK on Channel 4 (during the T4 all-weekend show), usually on Sunday afternoons.
After the next film is done I'd love to see a Lex round table with all the other Lex's you've had on the show / the ones you can get together!

This was great, the Lex chat between them really pulled me in, great character, two great guys! And Nic referencing smallville on channel 4 really took me back to my late teens
James Gunn has a great eye for talent and a great vision. Hoult is going to be a phenomenal Lex. I simply cannot wait for the new Superman film! Great interview!!
It always kind of makes me smile a little bit whenever two like well-known or semi-well known actors meet and it turns out they're actually fans of eachother. It just creates such an interesting, human atmosphere I think. Also Rosenbaum is really good as an interviewer (when he doesn't talk over his guests). But he really kind of seems to create a really good vibe that makes these people actually like being there, just talking like a regular human person.
This has to be a highlight of the podcast. Seeing Michael give advice and pass on his techniques to the next person to play his most iconic role of Lex Luthor is special.

That was actually a really fantastic low key impression of Anthony Hopkins to be fair. He got his very light Welsh accent and his intonations just right and even stared off into the distance, like Sir Anthony does when he's being himself. That was dead on.

Nick is a good dude, he comes from my home town & went to the gym my girlfriend worked at, after a late shift my girlfriend was waiting outside in the dark & Nick waited with her until her mum showed up, nothing weird about it - he just was being kind.
Some people wear that on their face and i always assumed it of him. Very nice seeming n in a way will be great for Lex cuz you’ll like him and be charmed

This episode was so lovely, probably one of my favorite episodes to date. 🥺 I’m hoping that Nicholas Hoult and James Gunn both agreeing that Michael’s Lex was the best is a good sign for how Lex is going to be presented in the movie. None of the other live action Lexes have really resonated with me, but Nicholas is an exceptional actor and has the right look for him, so I’m very optimistic about the movie!
I hope we get Welling and Corenswet. Loved Houkt as Beast, but my favroite movie of his is probably The Menu.

Many thanks to Rosey, Ryan and Nicholas! 🤩 I first saw Mr. Hoult in ABOUT A BOY (2002), then in THE WEATHER MAN (2005). By the time I watched him in two seasons of SKINS (2007) he was solidified as a talent to keep track of and I've happily done so all these years. I'm looking very forward to seeing his take on the 'Lex Luthor' character.

Feel like I watched this guy my entire life. Remember seeing about a boy when I was a kid and skins when I was a teenager etc.
I'm currently half way through Smallville reruns. I loved the show when it was first on. Always been a huge fan and supporter of Michael's. A couple of years ago I was really struggling with mental health and anxiety issues. I was spending a lot of time in solitude in a bad thinking pattern. I put Smallville on and it really helped take my mind off all the things that I was struggling with, which led me to the podcast which led me to getting better, getting healthier, mentally and physically. Without knowing it, Michael really helped me out of myself and to now living a much better life. The little things that have a knock on effect onto the big things. Nicholas Holt was absolutely brilliant in the Great. Really enjoyed it. Such a good actor and really funny too.

Fury Road was the first thing I'd seen Nicholas in, and I've loved everything I've seen him in since. And I've gotta say, I never imagined him as Lex Luthor but I have no doubt he'll knock it out of the park.

I started watching the great by accident, and what an outrageous script, extremely funny performances, and a show that can be heart wrenching and uplifting.
Can't say enough about The Great.
