    That first opal i held in my hand before it was set. I know the miners and cutters. Lifelong opalholic and a purist. Only untreated....but I do not like peppermint ice cream either. Amazing talented Mr. Pulitzer.

    I have a few Ethiopian Welo & Australian white Opals with nice pinfire , no black Opal yet.
    I'm sure my Ethiopian Opals have gone a more honey colour since I bought them. Still very colourful.

    Thank you so much for the video . i found it very informative . Especially now that I am trying to find a opal engagement ring (even though I know opals are soft and fragile ). Opals are so beautiful and unique.Currently I am finding it hard to find a natural opal engagement ring sold in-stores . Most of the jewelry stores that I've seen only carry lab-created / synthetic.

      @@PulitzerOpal Yes, many years ago I purchased some rough opal from Profound but the quality wasn't as good as that depicted in your video; I wonder if their formulation has improved over the years (I haven't purchased rough Gilson opal in many years) or just that some batches are better than others.

      @@PulitzerOpal My last purchase of Gilson opal was probably about 20 years ago....the quality seems to have gotten better since then. The quality has always been excellent; seems to have gotten even a little better over time.

    When I first got into gemstones I was so surprised by the variety opal comes in. I was only familiar with the white opal. But Australian Black Opal is by far my favorite. Definitely in my top five favorite gems. :)

    Honestly Im gonna buy a stone from Justin at Black opal direct! He does returns on rough and polished stones. I must admit I do indeed want my first Australian black opal. And some from Idaho and nevada.

      @@PulitzerOpal that's for sure! The depth and color are truly amazing. Black opals are very beautiful but the 3D affect and colors on a crystal opal are hands down my favorite!! You're right unless you're making a crown jewel it's to large for something other than a huge necklace of an unimaginable price and size for a spectacular display piece. Still I'd display all on its own just to admire.

Have you ceased making jewelry forever? Any chance you might make something in the future? I'm not much of a ring wearer, but they sure are pretty. I favor necklaces, pendants.
      Oh, well, I will still enjoy watching your videos! I love looking and drooling over the beautiful stones you have. And being from Texas, I loved that, um, whatever it was that looked kinda like a petrified turtle that you found! Awesome!

    I have a white crystal 5 carat Australian opal. It shines red, green, yellow, blues. But i also love the Ethiopian opals as well

    Iv caught up on all your vids now that I missed, had missed the last couple. Any tips on places to buy man made opal. I make rings and I saw this one guy I follow make a solid opal ring from a block of Bello opal. An I thought wow I gotta get me some haha, it was a piece that looked like white opal.. And youre right, white opal is the standard! I think it rocks(pun intended) sorry 😂. Thank u once again 😊👍👍

    In California in Venice beach there are local stalls that sell many stones and I come across on who sells small opals
    I was iffy on their prices and on the quality I was seeing so seeing this kind of help feeling comfortable on the difference there
    And the seller does show the back of his opals

    More confused than ever. Lol always enjoy your videos. I’m sure I know the answer but what do you think of this fake resin (?) opal popping up everywhere. I bought a couple dozen of them for less than $10 including the settings. The really sad thing is that I get more compliments when I wear one of these $.50 trinkets than on any other opal I have had. 😂😢. I checked. Pretty sure we are not neighbors. So I continue to enjoy your wit and wisdom from afar. Thanks for sharing ❤️

    We have on our flee market a seller who sells jewelry... And he has sometimes stones which he takes out of jewelry which gets smoldered...
    And since he would normally throw them away i get these stones for 5 to 10 bucks..and these stones can be everything.. Really good or really bad or even synthetic... But sometimes i am lucky and get a really good deal

    You mentioned to be where buying opal jewelry with enclosed backs. But I think you failed to mention beware of buying jewelry in settings that you can't see the sides or at least be able to spot a doublet and or a triplet, being sold as a regular black opal.

    Hey dude, love the vids :) I'm trying to do some DIY decos and such and opals recently caught my attention. Is it possible to cut opals with hand tools? Such as sandpaper, diamond files and so on. Of course I mean synthetic opals :)

    I have no interest in jewelery. But I am interested in buying opals without getting ripped off. I don't necessarily need top gem quality. I just want some decent chunks to practice cutting, and rubbing.

    I have to be honest I like the creamy white opal. My mother's wedding ring is 2 garnet and 2 white opal. I've talked to her about it I'm going to have them re set into a mens ring.

    Could somebody take some very nice off cuts and chips of opal and make an epoxy resin opal? I mean clearly you would need to say that that was the case if you were to try to sell it, but for something like Ethiopian opal that gets grungy over time and therefore loses value, if it were encased in hard resin then that should not only protect it structurally but also it would basically fully stabilize it. Just a thought?
