They do not wash off the protective, but stinky outer coating on the eggs in Panama. Consequently, they will last for a few months unrefrigerated. In the US, the eggs are well washed, and do not last without refrigeration.

Fun Fact: I chose Panama for a few reasons. Two of the reasons are: when I was in Nurse Practitioner School at University of Maryland I worked with several medical students and medical residents from Panama while at Johns Hopkins. They were returning back to Panama to practice medicine when done with their training/ 2: when I served in the Air Force the former AFB (Howard) was a top duty station prior to closing. Panama is a developing nation not a third world country so I am more comfortable being there several months out of each year.@@AbroadAbility

As a panamanian i laughed at the bonus one!!!🤣🤣🤣 Panama is mostly known because its one of the only cities which is surrounded by nature, and when i mean it is that in the city you pass several parks and forestales just to get into one place from another! so its completely normal to see big birds on the cinta costera or the famous ñeques playing nearby the city!

@AbroadAbility Legal prostitution in such a very Catholic country is shocking to me. Very progressive. Having to beg people to take your money. sounds really endearing. The Nazi symbol was startling because it evokes such a gut response... but it makes sense since no one group has a monopoly on iconography, and the ones we're familiar with might actually be predated by their use in other groups. Very enlightening video. :)

I am heading there in May '24 for 3 weeks for a pre-retirement visit. As to Imperial measurement (used in US; Myanmar; Liberia according to Google) vs the rest of the world, I have think metric is simpler - you just think about things in 1/10/100/1000. Once you know what a kilo or a gram is you're good to go. Canadian to American in terms of $ is something I will need to keep an eye on as that impacts my pension equivalent.

I suppose if you don't have to work here in Panama in any pubblic institution, or ever have to depend on the incredibly frustrating limitations of the pubblic health services, or suffer the traffic and volatile temperament of local individuals, also if you don't mind the overbearing heat the year throughout, and don't mind the general lack of cultural polish or achievements in its atmosphere, then Panamá is your place!

Hello, you mentioned racism; but you indicated that it could be from different perspectives. Is it racism of Panamanians against Black people? I am fleeing the US because the racism has us old enough to remember; feeling like the US is heading back to the Jim Crowe era.
I would have to re-think fleeing to a country where racism is; as in your face as it is in the US. I know there is racism of some sort in every country. However, I am wanting to minimize that exposure for a less racist anxiety retirement. The bloopers were so relatable. Thank you😀

    • @AbroadAbility

Racism’s exist but it’s mild, mostly on the political elites and Jews or other religions that search their own people
Most of the time is a class and education issue, old school racism is dying with the boomer generation . It’s a interesting topic but in short it’s not the white vs black Vs Latino that might happen in the USA

    • @253ful

In Panama, people care more about your ability to communicate in Spanish than the color of your skin. This inclusivity is evident, as almost every family in Panama has at least one Black member. Celebrating this diversity, the country dedicates the month of May to "Mes de la Etnia Negra" (Black Ethnicity Month), featuring various activities that honor the Black community. Reflecting this deep-rooted heritage, about 30% of Panamanians identify as Black or of Black descent.

There is a lot more out there than what you see in the US. Although some things are the same in some part of the US.
Garbage, have you been to Manhattan? oh! and RATS! or some areas of South Carolina or North Carolina, Virginia, Washington DC and others?
I moved to South Carolina, never saw so many deers in my back yard and with a fence and all, they jump it to get to my garden. Coyotes, walking like, well not like because after all, humans are destroying their habitat to build houses, etc.
X rated? In Bali, Indonesia you see men's part in souvenir stores. All sizes 🙂 right there on the shelves in front of everyone. I went in with my son to different stores and we both pretended like we didn't see. but that is normal there.
They also use the swastika in Bali. They explained that the nazis stole it and made it their own.
In Long Island NY, where the soil is sandy, there is no sewage system. Cesspools are used. So residents do use a trash can for solids like toilet paper, feminine waste, etc. that way they extend the life of the cesspool. Otherwise it would fill up quicker than the expected lifespan of 30 years. The cesspool is usually buried in the front or back of the house.
I was born and raised in Panama and we never had a trash can by the toilet in the house. Maybe in apartment buildings.
