The easiest way to tell him a minion will get the stat buffs when being copied with set stats is to look at the keywords. Notice that is says "has" versus "give", "has" in hearthstone sense is essentially meaning that takes the value of a number and adds that to the minions current value. While "give" would be an affect that happens when summoned or played so like a cause and affect instead of being just on permanently.

Generally the right idea but I wouldn't get caught up on exact verb being used. Although it's generally consistent, minions which give themselves stats or attributes in a battlecry it use the word "gain", if they give other minions stats it uses the word "give", if it's a passive effect for themselves it says "has", if it's a passive effect for other minions it says "have". The real important thing is if they use the keywords "battlecry", "deathrattle", etc. These are active effects. If it has none of those keywords, it's a passive effect, so it'll apply to copies.

the silence weapon does say “attacked” in past tense, implying it happens after the action is done. it’s odd to see the weapon silence before it makes contact with the minion.
It works like ice barrier. When something is attacked triggers before any damage is dealt.
I agree that the wording is poor but it's something he should have realized would work that way.
Should go by the example earth shock makes, where it specifically states the silence comes first, because I wasn’t entirely sure either.
Well if you look at mage secrets as an example Ice barrier vs flame ward. Barrier says when you hero is attacked and its effect triggers before damage is applied, meanwhile flameward says specifically after your hero is attacked.
Besides he should have figured it out after he killed the dragon cause if it worked the way he thought it did the 4/9 woulda turned into a 4/6 and then been silenced into a 4/1 and still been alive. He just had a brain fart lol.
"When attacked" is not past tense, it's future perfect. English has more tenses than past/present/future.
If someone swings their fist at you, you have been "attacked", even if they continue swinging. You don't have to wait for them to be finished with you before you qualify as having been attacked.
Once the target has been selected and the attack initiated, the target is immediately considered as "attacked" (perfect tense), at that point the "when" makes it clear that the effect should resolve immediately (or be pushed onto the stack of resolutions that must happen immediately), before the attack itself is complete.
When describing the attacker, of course, it would be worded "when attacking", because English grammatical rules are complex and there is often a distinction in formation of tense between subject and object. The person doing the attacking is said to be "attacking", whereas the person suffering the attack is said to "be attacked". The same act is described with different tense formation for the subject versus the object, even though the tense is the same as we're literally talking about the exact same action from two perspectives. You can't just see an "-ed" suffix and conclude "past tense!"
It is odd, but he should have paid attention and noticed JUST THE TURN BEFORE how the effect killed his 4/9 by turning it into a 4/1 PRIOR to connecting.

Practically if you play the hidden passage with it on board after your cards are returned all of the costs are reduced by 2

That board of 21/21s getting cleared, Trump, I feel you. I just had an arena game today that went a little something like this:
Was fighting a druid. Had 13 health and 2 minions on the board, one summons a 3/4 minion with deathrattle, the opponent with 2 large minions. Had 10 mana, DOOM! (10 mana, destroy all minions and draw cards for each minion destroyed), and BUFFED (6/5) Carnival Clown in hand. Played DOOM!, corrupted Carnival Clown, and had the leftover minion from the deathrattle. Opponent plays 6/6 spelldamage minion. I ram my 3/4 minion into it, play Carnival Clown, fill the board with 6/5 Carnival Clowns. Druids don't have big board clears, no chance for Mass Hysteria or anything like that. Will be fine. This game's locked down. Give preemptive Well Played. Oh, the hubris. Druid had four cards, two of them are Swipe and one is Solar Eclipse, and with the the spell damage minion, that's 15 damage to face. Biggest swing game in my life. Forever sad.
Seeing how the new C'Thun is Performing in Duels VS Standard mode, makes me feel as if it was targeted for the alternate mode. It's good that there are more modes now where different cards can have a chance to shine.

Just thought of a possibly broken interaction, Using expired merchant or any other card to copy one of C'thun's pieces. After you play them, will the copied card/s add another C'thun to the deck?
Or do you need to replay each of the pieces to get another one? *Obviously you could just copy the C'thun afterwards but I just wanted to know how that interaction works.

Honestly, Duels could have been a good mode, but the archaic unlock system put me off. Still, I'm sorta thankful for it. It gave me the push I needed to finally properly leave that game which I hadn't been enjoying for a long while.
Book of Wonders is never right in any circumstance. Scroll of wonders, Yogg'Saron, New Yogg'Saron, Puzzlebox, etc are cards that are unique in that they have a chance of negatively impacting your win rate. Any positive outcome must be offset by any negative outcome, and no one wants to do the math to find out the net win % to verify if it winds up having a win rate similar to other meta cards, or at the very least, a positive winrate. It's simple, if a negative outcome can happen, it will happen. Putting Yeti into your deck, and playing it can not actively impact your win rate negatively ever.
Besides, having 10 random spells in your deck play is no where near better than getting +1/+1 on a random minion in your hand. Even getting the Mummy Magic is not as bad, because even in the instance you get no deathrattle cards, it doesn't have a chance of negatively impacting you. Hearthstone is entirely about having consistency, because it is so heavily based upon rng. If you put a card in your deck that is roughly a 60% chance to have a good outcome happen to varying degrees, where 40% is either inconsequential or bad, then I have to wonder why you would gamble on a good outcome, because playing most other cards give you good outcomes due to the nature of just playing them. There is no coin flip when you play Yeti; you get the same stats and impact every single time. If you can't defend putting Optimistic Ogre in your deck, then you can't defend any other cards that have the potential of negatively impacting you. Optimistic Ogre is more consistent than Puzzlebox, because you can atleast theorize the possible outcomes.

That counterspell throw was so painful to watch
The worst part was that he started talking about it 1-2 turns prior about how he would rather discard Cthun than discard one of the other spells. I thought FOR SURE that chat was going to talk him out of the stupidity prior to it happening, so I had to live with 1-2 minutes of dread before seeing it happen anyway and play out EXACTLY as I expected.
Trump has obviously watched the Wronchi card reveal and got "Soul!" stuck in his head.

@40:00 I understand why Trump made the play he did. If he had tested for counterspell with Hand of Gul'dan, then he wouldn't have been able to keep a completely and utterly useless Hand of Gul'dan for the endgame.
He was afraid he'd mill himself for like 6 damage in that case, which would be devastating to somebody if they didn't have some kind of 20-attack rushing lifestealer and 40 base health with 6 armor to fall back on

I think, though not sure, the issue is that your deck is just too slow. With the treasure essentially allowing you to 1 mana draw a card and the likely eventual pick up of hands of guldans, C'thun and treasure aside, probably shouldn't run any card higher cost than 4. First couple game, just get C'thun out really fast for win. Later games, your deck will naturally slow down due to buckets.
R.I.P. Trump. He was so preoccupied with if he could gain value. He never thought about if he should gain value.
