      Yup they are during Covid at the refinery the same red fox would come to the unit waiting by my truck at 515am on the dot. My coworkers wanted to feed it but he or she didn’t trust them. This was when most of the workers were at home so no trash to jump into and eat from. So it learned to come to me to eat. Or try to scavenge. This is the city Southern California by the way no wilderness around the refinery.

      Help the bird?
      It's nature.
      And it's not like the person recording knew that this would have happened.
      The cameras were probably recording way back before this situation.
      If i'm not mistaken , these cameras are motion activated.
      Meaning they were there for security reasons , not for recording animals.
      The fact that the camera recorded this wasn't because someone did it intentionally.

      @alexwilson365 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Well Robins are highly territorial birds and will defend their area from wrens and other small birds.
      Although this is an American Robin? This Robin doesn't look anything like Robins in England, this bird looks more like a blackbird with a deep red breast.

    • @benderisgreat95able
      @benderisgreat95able ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @alexwilson365 , European Robin is famously dickish, but they are not closely related to American Robins. They share the name because of their chest plumage and that's about it aside from being passerines.
      American Robins aren't as social as flock feeders and don't have a reputation for nest raiding, which removes most of their selective pressure for aggression. Their only flock behavior as a species is sleeping in the same tree at night, but live as a typical pairing foraging lovebird otherwise.

    Everyone has babies to feed. Poor mama bird though! She calling her little ones with a beak full of worms, just waiting for an answer from her chicks! She and her partner will start a new nest, but I hope next time she goes a little higher!

    Interesting. Often enough, adults of many species of birds (and even mammals) leave young alone in order to draw predators away, lessen the scent or attractiveness of where young are, etc. White-tailed Deer leave fawns obscured in something like tall grass alone all day. Piping Plovers draw mammalian predators away from young on the beach with elaborate distraction displays, sometimes feigning injury so the predator will go after them and not search for young, knowing they can easily fly away to avoid the threat. This American Robin chose to vacate the area presumably hoping the fox would as well. However, perhaps an attack strategy would have been better, especially if it could have stayed in the area to see the fox was undeterred. Northern Mockingbirds used to dive bomb me all the time when I was kid and they had a nest in my yard. Going back to the beach, many terns can do damage in the same way. The fox would have at least been annoyed and pestered enough to potentially second guess what became an easy meal.

      I don't think any song bird would have tried such a bold attack against an animal that's searching for food for its own young.
      I'm sure they'll lay several more broods -- just higher up from now on.

    • @shantakidd6230

      What makes you say that? It seems like they set the camera up to record the life of the chicks as they hatched until they fledged. The fox just happened to find the nest and eat the chicks. A camera wont deter a predator, so sometimes instead of a beautiful video of the chicks growth, you get a recording of their untimely demise. Also the on screen time indicates that the fox attack happened at 2:00AM so even if the person would have tried to intervene, I doubt they were awake to see it and only found out what happened later that day.

    Well at least it was a native species of predator. I would have been beyond upset if it were an invasive cat. I have actually thought about setting nests under my deck as I have very limited space in my yard. This helps me understand things a little better for planning. Sorry Mom Robin. Love your tribe so much. (Every species is a tribe.)

      Why? lmao cats play the same role foxes do. Why would it be different if a feral female cat was taking the chicks back to her kittens?
      You do know that cats are just animals trying to survive, right?

    • @WhistlesToAnimals
      @WhistlesToAnimals 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@blobbertmcblob4888 While you are laughing your AO, you should instead be sad for being so ignorant. Cats aren't part of this ecosystem, or any ecosystem. They aren't native to anywhere. Do you know what an invasive species is? If you were educated, you would know. 63 species killed to extinction is what cats have done, not foxes. Foxes don't kill 25 billion animals in the lower 48 each year. If I put crocodiles in your swimming pool and they ate your family, could I say, they are just trying to survive so don't be upset. Foxes didn't slaughter every single animal on the cat islands. Foxes don't live in high densities. Foxes are part of the ecosystem, invasive animals destroy ecosystems. You should thank me for the lesson as I used to get paid. But you'll laugh and be ignorant instead.

      @@blobbertmcblob4888 cats are invasive. Do you know what an invasive species is? No feral cat is important to the ecosystem. They destroy it. Especially pet cats that are pet out. They destroy entire ecosystems and contribute to lowering numbers of animals due to them killing prey which gets rid of predators and a different population grows changing and destroying more things.
      Edit: Also, they don’t play the same role as foxes 💀 idek where you got that crazy idea. Most cats will kill and leave what they kill or bury it or bring it home where the owner throws it in the trash.
